2010 Fusion Order Status -- Updates

ackbar

Recommended Posts

I am hoping someone here can help with more information about this.

I bought a 502A Fusion Hybrid in mid-march that was from dealer stock because I didn't want to wait several months for an order to be completed. I can't wait for the car to arrive! Now I am seeing the dealer stock cars arrive and it is so frustrating to to not have mine yet.

The VIN number is really low (00345) and I have noticed most of the stock cars on the cars.com inventory are 4000s or higher. Does anyone have any idea if they are holding back on lower VIN numbers or if those are the last to sent out for some reason? My car has been built for months, and now the dealer is telling me they are not sure when it is coming in. Waiting for the car is driving me nuts because I really want to drive it!

Is it possible the dealer screwed me and sold me a car that they won't get for a long time?

Hi Lantastic. :D Can't fully address the "Is it possible the dealer screwed me and sold me a car that they won't get for a long time?" question. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. But it is not possible to answer that question by comparing VIN numbers.

What we can tell you is that vehicles are not built in strict order of their VIN. So you can not go by your VIN compared to others.

I know this answer does not help much, but at least there is still hope that your Dealer is being honest with you.

And just curious: What makes you think that "your car has been built for months"? They were not building Fusion Hybrids months ago.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Thanks for the reply. It was my understanding that they built the cars in sequence by the VIN, but it would make sense if they didn't. When I called Ford Customer Service, they said the car was built since February, but I suppose they could have been wrong. In any case, I am just happy that I will eventually get this car.

They're probably holding the hybrids longer- my non-hybrid VIN is in the 800's.

Don't remember the details but you can't go strictly by the VIN sequence number - there are other factors that impact the order in which vehicles are actually built - especially different models with different options. It's possible it was built in February - the early build cars are held until the plant turns out 5 consecutive days with no defects, then each car has to be checked before it is shipped. It may have needed factory repairs. Hard to say.

I wrote about the same issue earlier in this thread........my car was a early build with a VIN in the 800's (built 1.5 months ago). I was (and still) am upset that my car was not delivered before dealer stock cars started arriving weeks ago. It seems the early build cars got sent off to a holding lot and the more current builds went out first (either straight off the line or from the front of the holding lot). So your dealer is probably not at fault, their hands are tied in these situations.

I am still waiting on my car to arrive, and I have stopped posting it should be in by ______. Because it should of been here last Friday and then today......and now MAYBE tomorrow. I may see it this month, it's been quite a frustrating process. :banghead:

It looks like we are in a similar boat, sventhusiast. I guess I will be happy if I get my car before the end of the month. Not knowing when to expect it drives me a little cuckoo though. Good luck to ya and let's hope they send our cars out soon!

Going to pick up my hybrid tomorrow. Any suggestions on what systems I should concentrate on making sure about when doing the run-through before signing the final papers?

I hate you..... :happy feet:

Honestly, I'm not going to check anything mechanical when mine comes in. Sign, sign, sign and RUN out the door and get away. If anything is jacked, well its like any other new car, bring it back. The sales and service people aren't going to know shit about it anyways and if you listen to them bumble through some general information you probably already know, you'll get dumber by the second.

Just read through the financing real good, DON'T buy the extended warranty (consumer reports has proven them worthless) unless you are putting big money down you should get the GAP insurance, no matter how good of a driver you are you can't control some dumbass wiping your car out and the insurance company screwing you over.

;) Thanks for the tips. Hopefully Ford won't make me regret ordering an "untested" model (although, obviously, the gas Fusion is not untested).

Picked mine up last night. I haven't drove a 4 cyl since my Escort when I was 16. I haven't really got on it yet, but so far all I notice is a different tone. I'm averaging about 26mpg mixed, and it isn't even broke in! The radio design is a nice upgrade and a huge step forward in ergonomics. The HVAC- not so much. It seems like the buttons are slanted down when they should be slanted up so you can read them. But that's being extremely picky. The sync feature is unreal, I think Ford did an outstanding job there.

Why isn't this car more photogenic? It looks ok in all of the pictures, but absolutely gorgeous in person.

Does it have a smooth ride?

I drove the 2.5L and I thought it was quite smooth. The transmission shifted very well and engine noise was almost nill. I love the new gearing on the 6spd.

The only thing that was quite different from my wife's '08 was the power steering. The 2010 uses an electric system so the road feel and control is different.

I agree about the different feel of the power steering, after spending some time with my hybrid this afternoon (which I bought today and just got home with). The ride is smooth and comfortable -- no discernibly worse characteristic in that department than the 2004 Lincoln LS that it replaced. So far only 25.6 MPG, but should get better as time goes by. The braking is nice -- it took a bit of adjustment, but not much of one. Voice recognition system is very, very nice -- it had no problem recognizing my voice at all, whereas every single voice recognition system that I've run into previously had some problems with my voice. BLIS is also wonderful so far. (What I am not happy about is how little I got on the trade in for the LS, and that the interest rate is 7% on the financing, but I guess you can't have everything. What I am probably going to end up doing is trying to pay it off sooner.)

Always quote gap insurance FIRST with your insurance agent, sometimes it's only a few dollars a year or even included for free and you don't even know it.

Thanks. As it turns out, I turned down gap insurance entirely even without talking with auto insurance folks, since I believe that it's overpriced regardless of whether insurance picks it up.

My Sport AWD finally arrived this morning, what a beautiful car in person. I was a little nervous about the sport blue color but I am glad I took a chance with it, looks good on this model. The blue inserts in the seats could be a little darker, probably just because of the contrast with the exterior being blue also. It's unbelieveable how quiet and smooth these new fusions are, I am impressed! It was worth the 5 month wait, I am happy it's finally here.

Now I just need to sit down and learn the functionality of the navigation, SYNC, and BLIS.

How's the power, svt? I'm looking forward to seeing how the transmission works with the big V6 engine. I'm also wondering about the Sony stereo. How's it sound? My car should be here shortly and I should take delivery on the 1st of May if all goes well.

The Sony radio sounded nice in my Hybrid -- although I am not much of a stereo person and therefore might not be able to tell the difference. :baby:

Does it have a smooth ride?

Very smooth- I was going 75 in a 55 yesterday, I didn't even know it. At highway speed, there is almost no road noise and the suspension eats up the bumps well. I didn't notice much change in the steering from my 06, but the braking is a ton different- not better but not worse, just grabs quicker than what I am used to.

I haven't put it to the floor yet, but I got on it to about 5000 RPM, it seems so far it's got more than enough for this size of car. The sound of the engine above 3000RPM is pretty aggressive!

The Sony stereo seems pretty good so far, once I get my iPod hooked through the USB I will have a better idea. I want to also try a DVD movie to see how the 5.1 surround sounds. One thing I noticed is it's good enough to pick up the awful compression Sirius is doing on their sat radio. I am a little spoiled by the audiophile system in my F150, which has been the best system I have owned thus far.

I agree, I just drove 40 miles to work this morning and I can see myself getting some tickets in this car. It doesn't feel even close to speeds that you are going, being so smooth and quiet. The wind noise at 70 is almost nothing. The most noise I hear (which is small) is from the Goodyear RS-A tires but they are inhertenly noiser than the Michelins because of the design.

SVT,

Congratulations and good luck with it.

Does the exhaust sound louder than the 09 V6 Fusions? Some of the reviews indicated such.

I am so glad to hear all of the praise. I am now certainly more eager to get mine.

Thank you sir, and it's been great talking with you during our wait of our cars. I wish you a short wait and I am sure you will agree the wait is worth it when you get yours.

I think most of the great sound is from the new intake system they have fitted to the engine. It has a new intake hidden behind the front grill to take cold air into the air filter box. When the car is at idle, standing at the rear of the car, the exhaust is very quiet. I am hoping it will get a little burble to it after it breaks in, but not everyone wants that.

I plan to do some comparison pictures and impressions this weekend between my car and an new '09 SE V-6 we have on the lot right now. I will note the sound of the exhaust on both and let you know.

Pictures as promised are now posted in a seperate thread!

Thanks for your response. With gas prices a big question mark, I don't know what to do. But it is nice to know that the I4 is comfortable. Guess I'll just wait and see. Can you tell if it has the agerssive fuel shut-off on deceleration?

Thanks again.
