I am curious if somewhere Ford has a wharehouse full of old cars. I not talking like each year just major design change years and first year stuff. I think it would be cool to see a brand new 1984 Mark VII in storage, or a showroom fresh 90 towncar cartier. Maybe a Showroom SVO mustang. Are you speaking of the place that has the 86 Taurus that Motor Trend used for its test to give it the COTY award? And the first production Mustang? The first US Escort? Some of the cars were just rolling models without drive train and others were actual working cars. The Henry Ford Museum has some of the significant milestone cars like the first production Mustang. I'm certain there is no magic warehouse with rows of Ford models saved for posterity. Interestingly, Ford even let the First Mustang get away. The car was on display in Canada when it was sold to an airline pilot. In 1966 Ford offered the guy a swap for a '66 Mustang with every option in return for Mustang No. 1. OT question - Does the film shown in the 360 degree room on the Rouge tour still show them painting Mustang II doors? I was there two years ago and got a small chuckle out of that. They are talking about The Henry Ford, formerly the Henry Ford Museum. http://www.thehenryford.org/ The complex includes the museum which houses Ford historical items along with other automakers and about everything else from appliances to locomotives, Greenfield Village with several historical buildings from Ford's history and other historical events, and other attractions. They also have a tour of the Rouge assembly plant. I plan to go back there this summer, as the last time I was there was '88. Difinetely a recommended place to visit for Ford history along with other automakers. I seriously doubt there is a warehouse full of cars or other items, other than what the Henry Ford Museum has on display and in storage, and certainly not one of every model. Henry Ford was good for doing that when he was around though, but some of that stuff has been sold to private collectors over the years. Read an article about 20 years ago in Motor Trend about the first T-bird (a black one) being in a private collection. Something about the owner finding it sitting, doing some research, and finding out it was the first T-bird off the assembly line according for Ford records. It was of course restored to new condition The guy who owned the First T-Bird got to buy No. 1 Million in 1972. I think the cars were recently placed for auction. There are some interesting things there....the 20 millionth Ford [Model T], the Continental President Kennedy was shot in, a Tucker Torpedo, a Lincoln Touring Coupe, the rocking chair President Lincoln was assasinated in, and a beautiful old Continental to name a few (those are the ones I posted).
