PREMiERdrum
... as a Regal none the less. I wonder if the new baby Buick will get the "Century" nameplate?
jpd80
IIRC, Opel Insignia is the originator vehicle for the Epsilon II platform and it is also GM's main FWD/AWD platform for next gen Malibu/Impala and LaCrosse/Lucerne. Since the LaCrosse is already out, I doubt a Regal is coming to North America any time soon..... Edited August 21, 2009 by jpd80
2005Explorer
Hey I figured out how GM makes their decisions... using the Magic 8 ball. Let's see what it says about this new idea...

630land
Automotive News reports that the new Regal is coming, but is to be assembled in Canada. It was meant to be the next gen Saturn Aura. However, will this wayward Saturn also get canceled all the sudden as the "Buick Vue" did??
rmc523
However, will this wayward Saturn also get canceled all the sudden as the "Buick Vue" did?? With recent GM decisions, who knows? That said, I'm going to lead toward "no." Here's why: The "Vuick" was quite obviously a Saturn Vue with a Buick grille. This Regal has not been seen by the American public (most of the public anyway - not us LOL). Therefore, to most people, it's a "brand new" vehicle, with a "new," "fresh" design. But again.....who knows with GM management.... Edited August 22, 2009 by rmc523
jpd80
General Motors Board Said to Consider Option of Keeping Opel Without Sale Those crazy guys at GM, do they really know what they are doing?
RichardJensen
Telling quote: “This is not the same GM it was before,” Lindland said. “That was the purpose of the bankruptcy and everything the government did -- to create a new company that could make faster decisions.” A company that could make faster decisions, not better decisions. And that's what they've got. The old GM would've made one decision on the G8, but today's GM has made five or six. Now that's some fast decision making. jpd80
GM still make the wrong decisions but they do it quicker now...... Edited August 22, 2009 by jpd80
syrtran
Yeah because the saturn astra was such a hit! The Aura was. It just wasn't enough to keep Saturn around. @All You guys just might want to look up the 'parentage' of the Malibu, G6, Equinox, Torrent, and the upcoming Cruze. It wasn't just Saturn that used Opel as a base. Other than the Torrent, those aren't/weren't bad-selling vehicles. (Admittedly, the G6 became a rental queen) Using Opel as a base wasn't a bad idea. It's not what killed Saturn or Pontiac. What killed them was bad management decisions that didn't allow Saturn or Pontiac to be different from the other GM brands. (I blame 'old GM's' Board and their fiefdoms) Pontiac was becoming just another Chevrolet, and Saturn was turning into Oldsmobile. GM could do a lot worse than redoing the Aura as a Regal. In fact, they have - check out the Daewoo Aveo.

twintornados
...and coming out with the Regal nameplate is about as stupid as Ford's idea of originally wanting to name Fusion as Futura (or worse...Torino, I am an admitted Torino fan) Just call it Buick Insignia for god sakes!
