WOW a million, thats like one third of a percent !

And the turnout at any Obama rally was?

To get 60,000 + people involved in one protest rally is significant. Most people, including myself, while agreeing with the protestors, would never spend the time and effort. These protestors are truly the new patriots.

“All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.”

Thomas Jefferson

“If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy”

I agree that 60,000 is a significant number for a rally. So why do these Teabaggers insist on lying about the turn out being 1 Million. It just makes them look dishonest and stupid.

Numbers don't necessarily make protesters Patriots. There were many protests against the Iraq War that had as many people. Did the Right think they were Patriots for exercising their First Amendment Rights?

Your James Madison quote can more appropriately be applied to the trashing of our Constitutional protections under the First and Fourth Amendments under the Bush/Cheney Administration. The reasoning was "If you have nothing to hide than you shouldn't be concerned about warrantless searches". The right wing rallying cry against those who demanded fidelity to the Constitution was "We need to be protected from al Queda". I wonder how those people would feel now that Obama is President?

The 2010 elections are going to be the saving grace of this country, Obama will not be able to inflict too much more damage before then ( hopefully) and the American public has woken up to the propaganda machine that is the Obama administration and the Democrat party. They won't even be able to ram through Cap and tax or any ridiculous healthcare plan before then so things are not looking soo bad right now. These wacky liberals need to stop calling themsevles "progressives" and just call themselves what they are which is power hungry socialist's who are 100% anti American.

What damage has Obama inflicted?

Do you really even know what a Teabagger or Teabagging is? Its pretty juvenile talk. Not sure why you still want to use it. I never subscribed that type of name calling to those against the war.

And yes. I understand very well that they are being patriotic. Just because I thought they were wrong did not remove their patriotism and increase mine.

Peace and Blessings

Like some people critical of Obama aren't into name calling? Give me a break. Question Obama is one thing, and it's legitimate - hell, I don't like everything this administration has proposed, or has already done. Bush was right - dissent is the highest form of patriotism. But some of these people are are as off the deep end as you can get. They've had a bug up their ass since the election, and it's only been building. Things are as polarized as ever, and I'm tired of it. If Obama, Reid and Pelosi are contributing to it, using words like Nazi, then they're wrong too.

It is wrong to call people who want less government Nazis. Nazis were big government socialists. If anybody is a Nazi, it is them.

I was here back in the 1960s. The people out on the street protesting then were the liberals who are in power now. They were ragged and dirty and did a lot of dope and worshipped a lot of Communists. It is amusing to see it come full circle. The truth will eventually triumph. The good people will take back the country from the brainwashed Hippies.

The 60,000 number came from ABC News, which I would expect a 'low ball' from them since they are strong Obama supporters.

Yes the War on Terror was started by Bush. However, I don't see Obama ending it along with eliminating the "Patriot Act" which has decimated portions of the Constitution. All he seems to be doing is shuffling the troops to Afghanistan. The "openness" promised during his campaign seems in retrospect to be just more political lies.

Funny Sprinter, Matt Kibbe the leader of Freedomworks thought ABC was a pretty good source when he falsely attributed an estimated attendance report of 1 million to 1.5 million to the network. An attribution for which he later appologised.

It also appears that Tea Party supporters are still attempting to lie about the attendance numbers by floating aerial photos of earlier protests on the mall as representing 9/12/09:

There's another big problem with the photograph: it doesn't include the National Museum of the American Indian, a building located at the corner of Fourth St. and Independence Ave. that opened on Sept. 14, 2004. (Looking at the photograph, the building should be in the upper right hand corner of the National Mall, next to the Air and Space Museum.) That means the picture was taken before the museum opened exactly five years ago. So clearly the photo doesn't show the "tea party" crowd from the Sept. 12 protest.

Politifact asked Pete Piringer, public affairs officer for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Department, if the rally was big enough to fill that space. Piringer said no -- and moreover, the picture can't be from 2009.

This one got a "Pants on Fire" from Politifact:

As I said above 60-70,000 is a very respectable crowd. Lying about the size by more than tenfold just makes the supporters look dishonest ans stupid.

Why are you so worried about how many people were there?....give it rest already......the important thing is that people are energized and have gotten the attention of Congress

Yep, that's it Deanh. Just look at the lie under which this topic is listed. Wouldn't BIG PROTEST have covered it more honestly?

It's not the Media this time. It's the organizers and supporters of the event that are deliberately lying to try to make the event seem more successful than it was. This all dates back to the Million Man March organized by Louis Farrakhan which was estimated as having attracted 400,000 ( U.S. Park Service) to 850,000 (Boston University Group) depending upon the source.

In Case you have missed it, I'm not a fan of Minister Farrakhan. I thought it was silly that he threatened to sue the Park Service over the crowd estimate. That said, even 400,000 is a truly impressive number for any organization. Maybe the fact that the 9/12 event couldn't even get 25% of that number is the reason they feel the need to exagerate. Crowd envy?
