I'm probably on his ignore list, you see, he's exceedingly narrow minded thus "conservative"...me I like to weigh all options and weigh my decision thus I'm a flaming "liberal"...chances of us ever seeing eye to eye parallel diehard Republicans agreeing on ANYTHING the Democrats suggest....bi-partisan my a$$...hell will freeze over first....

The media has far more power than you give credit. Bill O'Reilly's "Tiller the baby killer" tirades influenced Scott Roeder to assassinate the doctor who, whether you agree with abortion or not, was performing a service that is legal within the boundaries of this nation. Fox News and Rush distort facts and lie to scare the gullible. Most Americans are sane enough to know better, but there are plenty of people in this country who live in a paranoid alternate reality and would commit some horrendous acts based on what they hear on TV.

Your logic escapes me......you say:

Most Americans are sane enough to know better

then how do you explain the enomorus popularity of O'Reilly and Fox news........please send me link where the guy that killed tiller says O'Reilly influenced him....

I posted the ones I could find. Go on YouTube...there aren't that many. The one showing the demographics was simply that...it showed a ton of people streaming in and is clearly dominated by an older, Caucasian group of people. The other one had a bit of left twist at the end, but it clearly shows that not many people knew what the hell they were protesting.

Wanting constructive, intelligent debate on real issues is not a liberal value.

There is no link, but you have to be naive to think that O'Reilly's multiple references demonizing Tiller on his program had nothing to do with his death.

That's what I thought....and you were the one talking about the Limbaugh and hannity spreading half-truths......so you are assuming he sat and watched O'Reilly every night............that's where he got the idea?.......you've been watching too much CSI

You can attempt to deflect from the main points I was addressing, but it still doesn't dismiss their actions as irresponsible.

You're the one deflecting.......extrapolating......conclusion-jumping......hey, maybe when this guy goes to trial he can use the "Son of Sam Defense".....instead of the dog told him to do it...O'Reilly told him to do it...and maybe Mark can defend him pro bono.....I can see it now on Oberman's show..."He's using the O'Reilly Defense".......

No, it was actual tyranny on the part of King George III that led to the American Revolution. Take a look at the Declaration of Independence, it's all there.

History is rife with tyrannies that drove people into rebellions, and the tyranny that the crown imposed on the colonists (which, for the most part, was a series of trade acts and tax levies) was negligible by comparison. (Take a look at the history of tyrannies; it's all there.)

According to Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Gordon S. Wood, during the period leading up the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the patriot leaders argued "that they were rebelling not against the principles of the English constitution, but on behalf of them." And "The American Revolution . . . [was] carried out not to create new liberties but to preserve old ones." This is what makes the American Revolution -- a rebellion against the "tyranny" of the crown -- unique to history. The Founders sought to regain what they perceived to be their God-given liberty, and to strike down what they perceived as a creeping encroachment on that liberty. Edmund Randolph, the Virginia lawyer who inherited Thomas Jefferson's law clientele in 1774, put it this way: It was a revolution "without an immediate oppression, without a cause depending so much on hasty feeling as theoretic reasoning."

Maybe John Adams put it best: "Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people."

This is what led me to draw the comparison with the current protestors: The threat of tyranny that they perceive is similar to the threat of tyranny that the Founding Fathers perceived.

And like the Founding Fathers, the demonstrators have legitimate grievances, including, but not limited to, Washington politicians favoring special interest groups (particularly large campaign contributors like banking interests and labor unions) at the expense of main-street Americans, the exploding national debt and deficit spending, bailouts, unnecessary pork-barrel spending, politicians' pervasive ignorance of the Constitution when making spending appropriations, and their perception of the hijacking of our political process -- enabled by community organizing groups like ACORN.

The demonstrators may be in the minority for now, but they're growing in number, and some politicians (particularly those who are from districts not considered "safe") are beginning to take notice.

Did you bother to watch the videos I posted? There are plenty of YouTube videos of the town halls, and you can listen for yourself to the misinformed Rush/Hannity/Beck talking points they present.

Correct. The most prominent thing I hear from the leaders of the liberals is that the debate is over, its time to act, we can't wait any longer, now is the time for action, etc.

They apparently don't like debates.

Peace and Blessings

FOX is now the Mainstream media. The others are just fringe, as in Lunatic Fringe. The people at the 9/12 demonstration were from the backbone of America, or The Middle Class. They are not happy with the direction the country is going. Democratic Senators and Congressmen had better take heed if they want to survive past 2010. This movemant is Big, and it is gaining steam. The majority of people are watching FOX. What does that tell you? They aren't interested in watching people ooh and aah and gush over Obama, and call anyone who disagrees with him a racist. The people on the Right aren't dumb like the people on the Left.

Fox may lead in cable news ratings, but I guarantee they don't touch network news. Besides, many people my age get their news from the internet anyway. Calling Fox, MSNBC, or any other cable news station the mainstream media is absurd.

Of my company of about 50, there are three people that religiously quote Fox or Rush. There are also about 3-5 that religiously quote Olbermann. The rest of us all fall right in the middle, and I'd say America largely parallels that attitude. About 25% are hardcore right, 25% hardcore left, and 50% who are fairly balanced in their views. The younger generation of America largely leans left of center on social issues and will continue to grow as the older generations age.

There are ignorant people on both sides of the political spectrum.

Limbaugh's latest Race Baiting. Let's blame the Black President when kids get into a fight on a school bus. Limbaugh's douchebaggery knows no limit. Limbaugh's comments are after the Dobbs piece at 1:00 in.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/16/r...r_n_288371.html

It was clearly meant as satire...he was using the arguments that liberals and leftists voiced during Republican administrations. That race is the motivation behind everything, and that these sort of things happen when a racist Republican is president. Read the columns of Maureen Dowd and Frank Rich.

Heck, President Jimmy Carter proved his point earlier this week when he said that racism was why people opposed President Obama. The White House, to its credit, distanced itself from those remarks. The Huffington Post clearly doesn't recognize satire when it sees it.

As one black person said - real racists exist, but they are like typewriters. Namely, they are out there, but nobody pays much attention to them, and they aren't holding back Microsoft or Apple.

You're much more certain of Limbaugh's satirical prowess than I am. He's no Jon Stewart. I would bet that many of his listeners wouldn't get satire at all since they are literalists about everything else.

I agree that the Whitehouse did the right thing . Joe Wilson may be just an ill-tempered, rude, blowhard instead of a racist.

Mark Morrow: You're much more certain of Limbaugh's satirical prowess than I am.

Megan McCardle ran a lengthy post on it (she was initially critical of it, too), and the clip included was clearly satirical.

The comments in response to on her blog are quite interesting. The bottom line is that, in this case, Mr. Limbaugh's critics are motivated by snobbery toward him and his listeners, and he made fools of his critics by tricking them into responding as he thought they would. They need to stop thinking that they are smarter than everyone else. They aren't.

The left has become the equivalent of the Big Three and the UAW - smug, arrogant, too easily dismissive of adversaries and convinced that they know everything that there is to know. Everytime I hear a leftist whining about Rush Limbaugh, and how dumb his listerners are, I hear a GM executive or UAW member or domestic fanboy whining about Toyota and Honda and "unfair" competition, and how people are being duped to buy their vehicles. We all know who turned out to be the truly clueless...and which car buyers are more sophisticated.

Mark Morrow: He's no Jon Stewart.

True. In this case, he hit the target much more effectively than Mr. Stewart would have, judging by the reactions to it.

Mark Morrow: I would bet that many of his listeners wouldn't get satire at all since they are literalists about everything else.

The ones who didn't get that it is satire are The Huffington Post writers and readers, so I wouldn't go there if I were you.

The original video that sparked his satire showed a group of black children attacking a white child on a school bus. They were being cheered on by other black children (although other black children tried to intervene).

If the races of the participants had been reversed, The Huffington Post (and probably Mr. Stewart as well) would have pointed to the tape as proof of how prevelant racism still is, and, if a Republican were in the White House, insinuated that this is what happens in racist, Republican America.

Limbaugh gave them a deserved taste of their medicine, and they can't accept it (and apparently aren't smart enough to realize satire when they see it).
