Bill O'Reilly's "Tiller the baby killer" tirades influenced Scott Roeder to assassinate the doctor who, whether you agree with abortion or not, was performing a service that is legal within the boundaries of this nation. Fox News and Rush distort facts and lie to scare the gullible. Most Americans are sane enough to know better, but there are plenty of people in this country who live in a paranoid alternate reality and would commit some horrendous acts based on what they hear on TV. Go on YouTube...there aren't that many. The one showing the demographics was simply that...it showed a ton of people streaming in and is clearly dominated by an older, Caucasian group of people. The other one had a bit of left twist at the end, but it clearly shows that not many people knew what the hell they were protesting. Take a look at the Declaration of Independence, it's all there. History is rife with tyrannies that drove people into rebellions, and the tyranny that the crown imposed on the colonists (which, for the most part, was a series of trade acts and tax levies) was negligible by comparison. (Take a look at the history of tyrannies; it's all there.) According to Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Gordon S. This is what led me to draw the comparison with the current protestors: The threat of tyranny that they perceive is similar to the threat of tyranny that the Founding Fathers perceived. And like the Founding Fathers, the demonstrators have legitimate grievances, including, but not limited to, Washington politicians favoring special interest groups (particularly large campaign contributors like banking interests and labor unions) at the expense of main-street Americans, the exploding national debt and deficit spending, bailouts, unnecessary pork-barrel spending, politicians' pervasive ignorance of the Constitution when making spending appropriations, and their perception of the hijacking of our political process -- enabled by community organizing groups like ACORN. The demonstrators may be in the minority for now, but they're growing in number, and some politicians (particularly those who are from districts not considered "safe") are beginning to take notice. The most prominent thing I hear from the leaders of the liberals is that the debate is over, its time to act, we can't wait any longer, now is the time for action, etc. They apparently don't like debates. Besides, many people my age get their news from the internet anyway. Calling Fox, MSNBC, or any other cable news station the mainstream media is absurd. Of my company of about 50, there are three people that religiously quote Fox or Rush. There are also about 3-5 that religiously quote Olbermann. The rest of us all fall right in the middle, and I'd say America largely parallels that attitude. About 25% are hardcore right, 25% hardcore left, and 50% who are fairly balanced in their views. The younger generation of America largely leans left of center on social issues and will continue to grow as the older generations age. Megan McCardle ran a lengthy post on it (she was initially critical of it, too), and the clip included was clearly satirical. The comments in response to on her blog are quite interesting. The bottom line is that, in this case, Mr. Limbaugh's critics are motivated by snobbery toward him and his listeners, and he made fools of his critics by tricking them into responding as he thought they would. They need to stop thinking that they are smarter than everyone else. They aren't. The left has become the equivalent of the Big Three and the UAW - smug, arrogant, too easily dismissive of adversaries and convinced that they know everything that there is to know. Everytime I hear a leftist whining about Rush Limbaugh, and how dumb his listerners are, I hear a GM executive or UAW member or domestic fanboy whining about Toyota and Honda and "unfair" competition, and how people are being duped to buy their vehicles. We all know who turned out to be the truly clueless...and which car buyers are more sophisticated. Mark Morrow: He's no Jon Stewart. True. In this case, he hit the target much more effectively than Mr. Stewart would have, judging by the reactions to it. The ones who didn't get that it is satire are The Huffington Post writers and readers, so I wouldn't go there if I were you. The original video that sparked his satire showed a group of black children attacking a white child on a school bus. They were being cheered on by other black children (although other black children tried to intervene). If the races of the participants had been reversed, The Huffington Post (and probably Mr. Stewart as well) would have pointed to the tape as proof of how prevelant racism still is, and, if a Republican were in the White House, insinuated that this is what happens in racist, Republican America. Limbaugh gave them a deserved taste of their medicine, and they can't accept it (and apparently aren't smart enough to realize satire when they see it).
