8.8 million..... Typical Republican response...... Steal from the poor and middle class and pad the wallet a little more. How demeaning!!!

Empire - In the thread on the upcoming 2-tiered meeting, you seemed to understand and support the message Fields was discussing. You mentioned the $58 labor cost, the 2500 jobs that needed to be added, the extra job security.

Now you read a sensational thread title that was not quoted, a link to a freep.com article, and a compensation figure.

This is your response? "Typical Republican response......Steal from the poor" - explain to me how you are now feeling demeaned and what has changed in the last 18 hours. TIA.

He is demeaning and condescending in his comments.

He could have easily achieved getting the message across with out using demeaning terms and innuendo.

Fields said:"Last year, the company did well and ... we paid about $5,000 per hourly employee (in profit sharing) in a very difficult environment where their neighbors and friends otherwise are not working," said Fields, who added that the amount paid was significantly more than the profit-sharing formula in the current Ford-UAW contract required.

Empires definition: We got $5,000 average profit sharing last year. Fields did not have to say that. He only said it to get public support for his extreme pay. If it wasnt for the UAW Fields would have paid us $2,500 of the $5,000. See what a good guy Fields is Joe Public !!!!

Fields said;At a time when many of their neighbors still aren't working, he said, they shouldn't expect pay raises from a company whose average labor costs remain higher than those of its competitors.

Empires definition:Don't even expect 1 item returned from the modifications. You are lucky to have a job. Look at your neighbors.

Fields said "Job security is hugely important to them. For example, you go to our Chicago plant, which is running very well," he said. "But that's an area of the country where there's a lot of unemployment. Their neighbors aren't working."

Empires definition:You are lucky to have a job. Look at your neighbors.

Very pompous and demeaning

I trust the UAW will hold the line on concessions. Our current rates are competitive, true.

I also trust the UAW will be successful in bargaining a good agreement that will keep us competitive, get products and investment and some creative way see a small bump in our income through bonuses or other.

And yes a republican response

Here's is one thing that everyone is completely over looking, When they add all these people at Louisville Assembly and where ever else that they need to add for production at the $15.51 rate. the saving and the overall total cost will drop from $58 dollars an hour average that they claim down some maybe to $56 an hour total. Now I could be wrong but I doubt it, then now add in retirements if any and the replacements lower pay rate and we will be closer to most of our competition.

I remember a couple of contracts ago most of us were in favor for-going raises not only to help the company but to save our retirees benefits to only have the company go right behind us and screw the living tar out of our retirees. Then we do the modifications to our contract to help save ford again and then after all was said and done they turn around and give management raises, bonuses, and 401 matches back. After all that they basically start telling us the workers that we need to give up more so that they can line their pockets even more.

I've always had one thing to say about that, you show me anyone from management that is value added and can do even part of a job or even half the stuff do and live on what we live on, they couldn't do it.

Dont forget that in 2006 when we gave up our anual raise and cost of living, 60 days later Bill Ford gave Markie Fields a $2 Million Bonus for not going to Toyota!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This all reminds me of Orwells Animal Farm. The piggies always were more equal but demanded more sacrifice from the other animals while they sacrificed nothing.Let's call this story Glass House. The piggies went Oink oink oink all the way to the bank.Still not enough.2010 ecxecutive compensation was over 200 million. How much would that have been divided by 40500 employees.

No raise since 2003, 8 years and counting.

Thousands of people gone and not available to split the profit sharing pie but still very little pie after taxes for those who are left 40,500 x $5,000

Profit sharing talks abound but still not close to what the salaried side will be getting.

Two tiered wages will allow them to have a competitive wage against other companies and they will still bitch that it isn't enough. Two tiered will bring it down around $50

King begging for a seat at the corporate table??

Job security, seriously??? who is left to build the cars and make them more profits, a lot of hourly have left the building...someone has to build the cars???

Serious savings on medical benefits of those who have left that did not retire.

Thanks for posting Skeptic, DTP Nick will be here any minute telling us all how uneducated we are, that there is a real crisis with global competition and we dare not ask for anything else...kinda sounds like Mark Fields "we should be lucky we have a job" look at our neighbors who are out of work... salary deserves so much better than the hard working hourly and we should all be so incredibly lucky that our profit sharing will be designed by their secret, unequal to salaried formula.

On the next contract there should be language for the democratic process of voting for all leaders in the International Union by all members, after all there is so few left. Don't you think the union would work a little harder during negotiations ??

That is an internal UAW issue not a Ford UAW issue, you can more than likely ask your Con Con reps why even though it was submited as a resolution why it was not put before the Convention Delegates.

The Con Con Delegates didnt vote on it because whomever submitted it didnt follow the Constitution with 175 Delegates (going off memory) supporting the resolution. Therefore the floor could not vote on the improper resolution.

You would think if someone would take the time to write and submit a resolution they would at least educate themselves on the process.

The procedure was followed and we tried to get the necessary delegates to bring it to the floor but were unsuccessful. Let's be honest, the Con-Con was more of a giant Hoover convention with all the sucking up going on! We tried but the delegates that the rank and file elected were not in support of the referendum vote.

Bob King needs to ask Mark Fields, Bill Ford and Alan Mulally why it is so important that the workforce be in "lockstep" with the competitors but management's salaries and bonuses can be many times higher. There are many ways to offset a slight difference in labor costs and Ford seems to have done just fine over the past few years with those differences in place.

Tell us, who are these "poor" that Fields stole the 8.8 million from?.

Its an analogy of the republican agenda. Kinda like snyder did to the Michigan citizens

Ah yes........... The lie that Reagan started.

We can call it Reaganomics

or

Trickle Down Economics

or

Bush Tax breaks for the wealthy 2% to create jobs

I call them the same package of voodoo economics that dont work or create 1 job.

The only thing trickling down on us is yellow and warm,,,, not one job!!!

Remember the bush tax breaks for the rich Obama extended because they are the "job creators"...??? now you know the rest of the story............. that cash never finds its way back in the economy creating jobs. But the sheeple continue to buy into it.......... Oh well move along nothing to see here

the less rich, not poor. He overstates things.

We are in today's day and age RICH in comparison with a majority of our blue collar brethren.

We should get a greater amount when they can afford to give so much to the execs over what their contracts state.

There's something you said there. We ARE rich by comparison to our blue collar peers. So why aren't WE being targeted for tax increases? Do you think the machinist at Joe's Tool and Die wouldn't vote to do so if he weren't outvoted by us in our union machine? Aren't we supposed to pull the rich down to raise others up? As you said, we are rich. They have less. If anyone who espouses the liberal mindset weren't hypocrites they'd be calling for more taxes on the UAW workers as well!
