Absenteeism?

Just wondering why people think that Absenteeism is so bad? my take on the matter is that people are tired, tired of the constant punishment that their bodies take! jobs on the line at DTP are overloaded!! on top of that lets work these guys 10.5. If you go to medical they just give you motrin and tell you to go back to work. I say f#$k that! people are hurting and the company wants to know why people arent comming to work. Just wondering how trim shop ran tonight!

They don't care if you take a day off, you get a penalty for it and eventually the nice guy in HR shit cans you. I love watching all the people from truck plant come in to HR when I go in there myself, it's too funny. Imagine if everyone in the plant one day just went in to HR and just filled the halls and stood there and no lines ran. I mean just saying? what could they really do??? Now that would be showing solidarity. Hell our union doesn't show it.

 

"Hello can I help you?"

"Yes, my name is ______ I was absent on Thursday"

"Are you taking a personal day?"

"No were not allowed to take our personal days at DTP, I'll just take a write up".

"Sir you're up for 3 days off did you know this?"

"Yes I don't care, can I start now?"

"No sir you must report to your supervisor and show them this slip"

"Ok thanks, By the way, would you like to have dinner tonight with me?"

"lol, sorry I don't date factory workers I only date the skinny guys in HR and the managers but thanks anyway!"

"Too Bad. ok thanks"

why is absenteeism so bad? I think a lot of it has to do with 1 person out of 40 being allowed a day off on any given day so people AWOL.

i give 2 months notice for a day off and i get denied because 1 other person has the day off on a line, shit happens and you can't always plan a year in advance for a personal day. so what are people suppose to do? AWOL.

I've never missed a day of work in my life that wasnt covered before the fact and yet if i need a day off chances are at DTP I have to awol and get a personal day after the fact. pretty pathetic.

I would think the company would rather know im going to not be at work (and in my case i usually can give more then 2 weeks notice) so they can adjust the workforce and ask people to work overtime rather then my supervisor having to find 2 people to do my job because god forbid they fucking train more then one person on a job.

We work 4 days a week. We have 4 weeks vacation, 1 week personal and 20 paid holidays a year. Who has a problem coming to work? Isn't that why we applied to come work at Ford?

louie must be the skinny guy in hr!!! lmfao! i don't know about the rest of you but i only get 2 and a half weeks vacation in june and two of that gets taken from me in july. wtf

people really hate that place. if management and hr really talked to their employees they would see that!

Vacation time and Personal time is something that was awarded to us by the UNION, (believe me the company would take that away if they could). Holidays are given to everyone in all workplaces, so what is the company giving to us more then anyone else would? AWOL SLIPS, why? because they can, and that's what they are giving you because they want you to move on out the door through penalties. This is a trick tactic perpetuated by both the company and union to keep the turnover rate going at DTP. In ACH plants to take a personal day all you have to do is call in 24 hours to the 1800 number in advance through the automated system. It was put there for that reason and works fine until you get down to DTP, then the company wants to run those plants their own way. They don't even have local agreements yet. In 10 years DTP hasn't had a local agreement. (Can anyone say LAW SUIT)? So if you were fired for absenteesim and the plant does not have a local agreement under the national contract, does this mean you should get your job back?? HELL YES!.

Absenteeism is a direct result of no Union support or representation to the membership.

 

The worker doesn't bother calling the union over to tell them he can't get a day off, so he/she just takes an AWOL. Then when the union has to fight to bring back that worker after he/she gets terminated they complain about doing their jobs and wonder why. If you take care of this issue now, you won't need to defend or work to get people back to work for being booted out because just about everyone that gets put out for absenteeism does come back so why not take care of the problem to eliminate further problems Union?

Wont be long before someone wakes up and shit cans all of them. They did a spring cleaning at Saline last year, also at SRP and Wayne, it won't be long before they send them packing. Then all the fruit tards in here that support management can take a ride with'em.

Let people use Vacation or Family Days after the fact. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have tons of open FMLAs if people were allowed to use those after the fact. I think 3Medical days should be give per year as well and not count as an occurrence. Literally if you are legitimately sick you can only have 5 days in an 18month span. Then you're in the system of not even to be alotted to take an after the fact personal. The system sucks cause I had my child at children's hosp shortly after he was born and burned all my personal time to be there. Then was told the note the doctor wrote doesn't matter cause it still counts as an occurrence. Some things are out of our hands. It's a sad attendance system. The minority of the people who have taken advantage of it have ruined it for the majority.

Why does someone's education make him superior? Some kids stay in school, supported by their parents into their thirties because they don't have the gumption to go out into the real world and make it on their own. Put a nurse or an accountant or an arts PhD on daddy's dime on the line and see how they do. An auto worker has just as much right to hold his head high as anyone else. Many "high school dropouts" went on to be millionaires and heroes. Many university graduates went on to become socialist politicians screwing up the country.

One thing that we haven't really touched on is the fact that there are a lot of folk's coming into assembly plants these days that are in their 40's & 50's. And just because they might be that age doesn't mean that they have the vacation time to match. Most of them came from parts plants that were pure gravy compared to working the assembly line.

 

I'd say that a lot of members that started on the assembly line, began when they were younger and their bodies and mentality were conditioned long ago to handle the rigors of that type of work.

 

Someone else said it...they may be just flat worn out. That being said...there are some that don't care too.

If you manage to keep your job until retirement, you'll be dead two years later because of the stress you put your body through. And if you don't make it that far, and the plant closes down, you are not qualified to do anything else.

 

I on the other hand make far more money than you, have far less debt, have transferable skills which will allow me to work for as long as I want. I've been promoted and recruited for better jobs. I make my own way son, you are following the path that someone who doesn't care about you is taking you down.

The system is setup and agreed upon by the very union itself that claim they are out to protect our jobs, yet ask local 600 why there are currently 96 people out on disciplined or discharged from the plant due to attendance.. You get 99 weeks of unemployment now that the company has to pay for, so if they want to fire you for their crazy stupid attendance policies let them and collect unemployment. The Union has to bring you back, only if you're not black don't count on coming back first.

 

The current policy is also protected under no local agreement either so go figure that, 8 years later and 600 doesn't have an agreement with Dearborn because of the under the table deals they do. Union also has no communication skills or leadership skills. Too many of them are out pulling in the cash while not working or lifting a finger, and there is no accountability yet the same people keep getting elected in at local 600.

 

The fix is in.

Our attendance procedure is the first few pages of volume 4 of the International Agreement. It would take a weeks of unjustified time off to get terminated. Use of justified time off including FMLA could get us off the job for months.

 

How in the hell can someone get terminated with all of these opportunities to excuse time off???

Because the company doesn't follow procedure and progression, they do what they want to do while our union is having lunch here everyday:
