IMO, the only way this could work in NA is by selling it under a different banner (eg Mercury).

You don't need Escort in Nth merica, what you need is to lengthen the wheelbase of current Focus to match Corolla.

I'm sure the next generation Focus will have longer wheelbase. The current model while being a product of "One Ford" was largely still an European design based on the original C1 with all of its limitation and constraints (some would say biases towards the need of European buyers). That won't be the case for the next Focus.
