630land
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/foreign/2015/07/24/japan-us-mitsubishi-motors/30609749/ DSM name died ages ago, and this plant opened in 1988. Seems like yesterday Mitsubishi was a 'rising star', but then they practically gave cars away and lost $$$$. DSM coupes were the rage with early 90's gearheads. Now, rusted away. Shows that not all Asian makes are 'bulletproof'.

"The company's board will "make a formal decision in the near future," he said, adding that Mitsubishi's "focus right now is to identify a buyer ..." blwnsmoke
So the first article linked here states: Mitsubishi said in a statement that it has been reviewing the structure of its global production, including in North America, but “there has been no decision made regarding it at this moment.” And then a few hours later: Mitsubishi confirms they are closing the US plant and going to try to sell it. lol.. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/report-mitsubishi-motors-end-us-production-064547248.html I know it is just PR and is the typical response but very comical that in the same day a "no decision has been made" to a "here is our decision" type of response lol. rmc523
It'll only be a matter of time before they stop selling cars here period.
RichardJensen
I'm going to make a hubcap halo for Diamond-Star Motors. Yep. A hubcap diamond star halo.
jpd80
I'm going to make a hubcap halo for Diamond-Star Motors. Yep. A hubcap diamond star halo. Wow, just had a T Rex flashback... Just goes to show that Bits-a-missin' needed Chrysler more than Chrysler ever needed them. Was that a marriage of convenience or two companes that should have never been allowed to wed... rscalzo
Mitsubishi has a thriving motor vehicle business overseas. The US market was never very large for them. Their holdings are in every segment of the economy . This is a minor affair to them. Much of their holdings aren't in their name. You cite the Chrysler joint effort yet failed to mention the one with Ford years ago. today their market in much larger in Japan and supply engines for more than a few brands. This isn't going to cause them much loss of sleep.
jpd80
You cite the Chrysler joint effort yet failed to mention the one with Ford years ago. The reason was that Ford never owned stock in Mitsubishi, Chrysler did. Edited July 25, 2015 by jpd80
twintornados
My guess would be, since the plant in Normal Illinois is relatively new so to speak, that you will see it get sold quickly. FCA would likely look at it for expanding Jeep production.
RichardJensen
I don't think they can afford it.
630land
I have a bad feeling it will just close down, or just end up a shipping warehouse for cheap stuff people get online.
