sullynd
Assuming the 3.3 is a Nano, does that, and the end of the 3.7 in the Mustang foretell the coming end to the Cyclone? Ford has a lot invested in the EB 3.5. I wonder how an EB 3.3 would compare to the 3.5. Will be curious to see when/if all these power trains go to the Transit. Detroit News is reporting that it's the same as the JLR engine. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/detroit-auto-show/2017/01/08/naias-ford/96304716/
SoonerLS
3.3 is a cyclone out of cleveland This (at least the Cyclone part; it's based on the 3.5) was confirmed by Ford's Truck Marketing Manager in the video posted in the 2018 F150 thread: http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/62640-2018-f-150-revealed/?p=991962

I thought the JLR 3.0L was from the Lion diesel family co-developed by Ford with Peugeot? If true then it would still be an in-house design, sort of. fuzzymoomoo
I liken it to the 10 speed transmission Developed jointly then tuned in house for their own needs

Curious to see how long the 3.7 stays in the Transit and PIU. I would bet the Lincolns lose it first.
RichardJensen
Detroit News is reporting that it's the same as the JLR engine. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/detroit-auto-show/2017/01/08/naias-ford/96304716/ It's not. The press release says that it's 'all-new', that means that even if one supposes that they started with the Lion V6 (a reasonable assumption, you always start somewhere), it's not currently for sale in any JLR product. Nor will it be, IMO. JLR's contract with Ford ends in 2020, and I doubt very much that Ford is interested in making their most advanced diesel V6 available to a company that will not be doing business with them 18 months later. jpvbs
I assume it is an evolution of the Lion. The JLR version is rated as high as 270hp/440lb-ft. It would be nice if Ford both out powered and was more efficient than the RAM EcoDiesel. Also of note, Peugeot is using a version of the AJD V6 in their Dakar off road racecar and are cleaning up with it. The other teams are whining that the Pugs should be further restricted. RichardJensen
yet they're all being built at the same plant in England right? Correct. Dagenham.
Hugh
Correct. Dagenham. LR was using a variant of the EB20 but they might have gone over to the Ingenium line in Jaguar already.
RichardJensen
LR was using a variant of the EB20 but they might have gone over to the Ingenium line in Jaguar already. Yes. That's happened. There's an A/N article about it I had open earlier today.
