  1. FYI: the "bracket" is a glorified washer glued inside the crossmember to keep the bolt from pulling through. It's quite small and inside the cross member. Would be easy to miss.
  2. First, 8k trucks is like a couple day's production, right? They caught it, and are fixing it. Since none of the 8k have had issues yet, it must not be that dire. Second, quality control is in the sh***er and has been for quite some time. Be happy this is fast and efficient. DPOS6 is still junk 5 model years later and Ford still cant build working door latches.
  3. IF it really is good, give it to The Grand Tour...
  4. I would add that the wiring is perfect for rodent damage. We see a lot of them chewed off.
  5. Do not buy Motorcraft Reman alternators. Severe issues with them.
  6. BOTH of my 08's look like Kattay's.
  7. Pioneer... TCMs are on backorder again. ETA is pretty far out. It could take MORE than a month.
  8. Pioneer hit the nail on the head. Options DO NOT MATTER if they continue forward with DPoS6.
  9. We got 2 in stock the other day. I thought the pics were just bad angles, lighting etc.... they are hideous in person.
  10. 27 years of technology. Not always better. Certainly not cheaper. IF they will do it for $1100, you are getting a steal.
  11. Seems awful, awful cheap. It is around 11 hours of labor with a $130 pump plus both valve cover gaskets, sealant, intake gaskets, oil and filter. Its the idler for the timing CHAIN, not belt. And its under the timing cover on the front of the engine. Biggest question is did coolant get in the crankcase? If it did, you'd be better to buy a boneyard engine, install a water pump in it and go on your way.
  12. List price for a clutch and apply bearing should be around $1500 installed in my area. The two clutch actuator levers are around $200 each once the clutch is out. So say you destroy everything in the bellhousing, you're looking just under $2k. Internal trans repair (forks, clockworks, etc.) is, of course, more. If there is a lot of damage internally, it would be cheaper to get a boneyard unit. There are a ton of them in my area for $600-$900.
  13. Tire circumference difference ABSOLUTELY will kill a PTU fast. The PTU IS the weak link and it is exacerbated by difference in tires. Rotate EVERY oil change. Replace 4 when it comes time. We put plenty of PTU's in the Escape and Fusion.
  14. I see a few actuators. See a few apply bearings, especially when they were soaked by seal failure. They are covered by 5/60 powertrain warranty, but NOT 14M01. But EVERYTHING after a build of June 5th 2013 is not covered by 14M01 anyway.
  15. BORG - The transmission itself is not the issue. CLUTCH and TCM are. Replacing the transmission will do nothing. The latest service clutch is the same as the late 15 and up model and they basically get the late 15 software. The issues with clutches in the late 15 and up are fewer and further between, BUT the TCM is basically unchanged and will never really be updated. The clutches being installed now are the old design until stock is used up. The failure rate on the updated seals is almost 0. The ones I've seen have been installer error or a missed engine oil leak. Ford released yet another new TSB and cut labor times again (4th pay cut, IIRC), and added a "Repair Validation Code" which has to be gained to get paid for the repair. So.. more work for even less pay.
  16. May be the switch. May be the SCCM. May be the wiper motor. A few minutes time with an IDS would send you in the right direction.
  17. For certain repairs always SHOW your service writer or a tech. This saves a tech time and frustration. And for a tech, time is LITERALLY money as most techs pay is commission. Ford has cut diagnosis time to almost nothing, so it is difficult for him, mentally and pocketbook, to spend a lot of time on something that is not readily apparent. Noises are the VERY VERY top of that list. ***What you hear, may not be what he hears. That rattle you hear may not be the noise he hears. He may fix something that you weren't concerned with and have a recheck thinking he fixed it and get to fix it literally for free the second time. ***How you make it happen may be different than he assumes too. Early Explorers were bad about making A pillar trim noise in crosswinds. Without that information, he might drive it and NPF it because it wasn't in the right crosswind or other operational condition. ***A noise may be a characteristic of your particular type of vehicle. I.E. The new high pressure direct injection systems are LOUD and kind of sound like a ticky engine. If this is your first car with it you may not think its right. I had a customer that had had a car at another facility and spent thousands, literally to try and fix a noise in his vehicle. It was a boom noise with one window down while driving at highway speeds. He was irate that he had spent so much time an money elsewhere on a characteristic that any car can have in the right situation.
  18. Hey Lincoln Lover, GM has said that in their own testing, their bed gets holes from the toolbox in 2 of 10 tests.
  19. I have not installed the Livernois kit. They don't have an E.O. yet.
  20. Before starting ANY repair on a 3 valve, you MUST verify base engine oil HOT. Not just coolant warmed up... get the OIL hot. If it is below 20 psi its time for a reman engine. IF the base pressure is good check crank end play. If it is out of spec, reman time. Once the valve covers are off, you MUST check the cam caps. If they are badly scored, reman time. If it is all ok look over the guides and the tensioners. IF the gasket is blown out of the tensioner ("if" lol) or the guides are damaged, replace guides, tensioners and get a Melling high flow oil pump while you have the front cover off. DO NOT USE DORMAN PHASERS. They do not function correctly. Don't forget to replace the solenoids with the latest revision and have the PCM updated to the latest calibration.
  21. Fordtech... its engineering and tightwaddedness. Look how much they have scavenged labor times in the last few years. They will do ANYTHING to save a buck.
  22. Have you contacted a driveshaft repair shop?
  23. grbeck- On that Focus with that many miles, replace the engine mount on the passenger's side. They like to collapse and, in turn, make more drivetrain noise than they should. Night and day difference. And check the engine roll restrictor. They can get rocks wedged in them where they go into the K member. And there wasn't an Edge in 06.
