I have a 3L freestyle AWD with the cvt and it is a nice combo. Good FE and decent power. I have never had a problem keeping up with traffic or merging. Its not a rocket but is more than adequate. It a family car, not a high performance vehicle, and for that purpose it is great.

I seem to recall they use a one speed transmission.

A coworker just bought a new Altima. She had a Subaru before. She was telling me about shopping around, she looked at Accords, and Toyotas and Subbies. I asked if she looked at the new Malibu as it was getting great reviews. She said, "I didn't even consider a domestic car". Hard to sell cars when the customers are like that.
