  1. Hey I think you forgot Fusion 17 406 Malibu 20 458 Taurus 5046 Lacrosse 7047 (or impala 14 565) Flex 3129 Traverse 9977 (or acadia 5574) Expedition 2767 Escalade 2209 (or Yukon 4106, Tahoe 6912, Suburban 3708) Lincoln 5586 Cadillac SRX 5723
  2. Canadians are more price-sensible in their automotive choice, since winters destroy every cars anyway. Good rebates and promotions beat good products in those kind of markets. Escape is doing great too because it is discounted.
  3. First of all I believe the other MT test were the V6 versions. now I do own a Malibu.. but I do believe the Chevy, the Ford and the Hyundai should have been jn the top 3. (Malibu 3rd, Fusion 2nd, Sonata 1st) I don't understand how the Camry can be in first place. As for the noise level, has anyone noticed the Camry is the less noisy while cruising but the worst in acceleration... talk about engine refinement  . I'd appreciate if Motortrend somehow gave ratings, because it really sounds like they are rating them based on how they feel that day.
  4. There is EVERYTHING in China. There are good quality products, associated with high costs, but there's also the extremely low cost crap. Safety rules kind of denies the very low quality cars from being sold in Walmart here though
  5. Assembly line workers shouldn't just do the physical job: Ford should listen to them. When it comes to improving quality and safety on little things, workers know better than engineers, and they cost less. (Maybe Ford now listens to them, I don't know, but the philisophy that a worker should only be paid to work instead of thinking is what created a gap between most Japanese and American products.) Where I work (part time), we constantly give ideas to the supervisors on how to improve things, and guess what.. they don't listen. When it's their turn to implement things, it never works. All-robots plants work in some industries, like metallurgy and chemical plants, but not in the auto industry. They cost a lot to implement, to maintain and to repair, and if there's a recession, you still have a lot of fixed costs to impute on less production. Nevermind the bad press you get for not hiring lots of people: believe it or not, having tens of thousands of workers on your payroll gives help when negociating with the government for subventions, and families of workers tend to buy your products.
  6. In my Marketing Strategies courses, the cash cow term is used the same way as the OP's definition. It really is about what source you're using.. marketing being a human science, there is no right or wrong way to see it, as long as you describe the reality well. Star product (good marketshare, good market growth) --> Invest Question Mark (bad marketshare, good market growth) --> Make CHOICES, invest if there is a possibility of improving your marketshare Cash cow (good marketshare, bad market growth) --> Make money, invest elsewhere Dog (bad marketshare, bad market growth) --> liquidate
  7. The manager will lose his job if he doesn't build the cars fast enough, WAY before the quality issue. Lower management is there to put pressure on the employees, hence the reason why they don't like them
  8. Because the guy obviously has no idea what he's talking about, yet he still gives his worthless opinion, in a form of a certain insult to those who work for Ford.
  9. This is the harsh reality of having to work on an assembly line. I work in a warehouse and boy is it different. My usual shift starts at 2h30 PM. Sometimes I get called at around 9 AM to be offered overtime (4 hours max), and sometimes I get asked if I want to stay after 11hPM. People here says YES to overtime before your shift. Almost everyone (if you're already awake) go to work at 10h30 instead of 2h30, and when it's lunch break at 6h30 PM we all tell the bosses we're tired of working, give our equipement back, and go watch the Habs playing. So in other word, we got paid 4 overtime hours, and 4 regular.. instead of 8 regular. We sometimes get disciplinary sanctions... but who cares?
  10. Industrial spying and reverse engineering are the two reasons why Asia isn't like Africa at the moment. that is all.
  11. Ford discontinued the Cortina because it cost more in warranty repair than the whole price of the car. This is the reason. This car was garbage
  12. Here they get up to 200 000 km. Impalas and CV have no problems getting up there without any major repairs. If they actually kept them for only a year, I would call this incompetence and waste of taxpayer's money.. just like the Carbon Motors cars.
  13. Bla bla bla Tonight, my boss asked me to stay for 4hours of overtime (I'd have finished at 3 AM), because the computer system crashed so I was stuck doing nothing for five hours at work today so we had to stay to make up for the time lost. I refused.. Am I united against work too? I did my 8 hours shift, but I didn't want to do the VOLUNTARY overtime. Am I lazy? In your opinion, I am. Good thing your opinion matters though.
  14. Mine: 2000 Chrysler Cirrus 2.4L 150 hp... enough power to drive "fast". What?? it is the weakest car I have owned. Since I'm a kid, I can't say I drove those early 80s cars. I have owned a 95 Voyager 3.3L (170hp I think, but lots of torque), the 2000 Cirrus, and the 2009 Malibu (170 hp) I never owned a "weak" car, but also never owner (or drove) a fast car.
  15. Judging from the JD power article they posted, the Hyundai Entourage is also in high demand. low inventory =/= high demand. I'm so glad Toyota screwed royally with the Tundra. January 2nd I want to hear that Toyota hasn't got 100 000 Tundra sales in 2009, and I want AT LEAST another mass recall.
  16. Please explain to me how GM loses money per Traverses while the Flex is making money. Also, while you're at it, take a look at the Canadian dollar, and the fact that the Flex/Edge are built in Canada.
  17. Yeah anyway I heard the Cortina was a very badly made car. It used to cost Ford more in warranty repairs than the whole cost of the car.
  18. One thing that should be separated though is the corolla sales from the Matrix. Maybe Toyota wouldn't even have one entry in the list.
