  1. I first saw this ad this past weekend and it did not have the blue oval anywhere. I saw it again last night and all the vehicles had there badges back on and models were called out. My one gripe is this: you cannot go to a dealer and see any of these cars right now. The Focus ST, Focus EV, '13 Ecape, and '13 Fusion are not available yet. I know commercials do this all the time. A movie isn't out yet but we see a commercial for it, but at the end of the commercial they at least tell you when its coming out.
  2. Exactly. We don't have a quick lane. We do all the oil changes inside the service department so I get a front row seat to watch these flunkies. There is a crazy amount of turn-over in the lube department. If we're lucky, they stay for a little over a year. Our dispatcher qc's every oil change that leaves. That means checking all the fluids, re-checking the tires, checking the lube sticker and, 9 times out of 10, resetting the oil change reminder because the lube guys can't figure it out. I feel for them a little bit. I did start on the lube rack. I was 18 years old. It's hard work. Lots of burns. Using myself as an example, though, there is room for advancement if you put your nose to the grindstone.
  3. I just played with an Edge this morning where the update was mature: phone was already synced, recall done 12 days ago. I was replacing the front controls interface module. Randomly the sound settings screen would pop up because there was a problem with the "switch pack" on the controls. Anywho, the frequency display stayed put. Maybe a Focus thing?
  4. This is another one of those 6.0 diesel problems. I guess I've fixed two 7.3 E series ambulances too. It requires a complete fuel system (all 8 injectors, pump, fuel pressure regulator, and tank of course $$$). It only seems to happen on E/F350-450 and F550 with aft-axle tanks. A problem we had was tank availability. A few customers had to wait 3+ months for replacement tanks. This required them to run on the midship tank, which is quite a bit smaller. Smaller than the typical F-series with just the midship tank. E series aren't equipped with dual tanks so they were just stuck. They were constantly on back order for "engineering changes". These "changes" appeared to be a lack of lining in the tank. Instead of waiting for the replacement, some technicians (not at our dealer) would send the tank to a radiator shop to have them stripped and relined. I thought this was rather dangerous due to lack of testing on the lining the rad shop was using. How did they know that lining won't flake off and clog the fuel system? I still stand by the theory that it is ULSD and bio content. Additives in the ULSD? Additives used to suspend bio in the fuel? This is something I just didn't see before the new fuel came out. Some rusty F52 tanks due to a lot of sitting around, but not lining delamination. If customers drained there water seperator every now and then like they're supposed to, they would have noticed the large silver flakes and (if they went to a repair shop) could have saved their injectors.
  5. No secret bulletins that I know of. Coincidentally, this all started when ultra low sulfur diesel came out. How was Ford supposed to do durability testing on a fuel that wasn't available? It could also be due to the percentage of bio in the fuels available at filling stations which ten to be 10%+. I think the 6.0 and 6.4 are only rated for B5. Why would Ford have to give you a free tank if your using higher bio content than recommended? Those are my two theories anyway. No porblems before 2007.
  6. Any chip, chito or frito. Pretty much anything that has a lot of grease in it. Great way to start a camp fire if all you have is a cigarette lighter.
  7. We charge $200 for labor. The plugs are $20 a piece I believe. $80 for each broken one. I normally give you one freebie, unless its cylinder 4 or 8 (but it always is for some reason). Trust me, the mechanic doesn't want them to break. Probably more than you do. Ive spent hundreds on tools for these plugs. Its a sore subject. At first, I was miffed that I needed a new socket (they're 9/16ths instead of the standard 3/8ths) $. Then came the 3/8ths chordless impact $$$$. It seems to be the only tool that removes them in one piece, and it only works about 90% of the time. It is a handy tool to have around regardless though, but not handy enough to justify it's cost. Then the lisle porcelain pusher/ extractor $$. Then I needed a new socket for the one piece design $. All these tools look so nice in my toolbox. They're next to my helicoil installer for the 2v spark plugs $$$.
  8. Yeah .. but you gotta admit, C-Max is a pretty terrible name. Sounds like a vitamin supplement or something.
  9. I like CNET a lot. (probably more than I should. I just bought there tv of the year yesterday, based solely on them) This has been posted here before. They did a pre-review at LA and seemed to really like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVxRwh-G6ko&feature=player_embedded
  10. I think its safe to assume that. There will probably be some problems with the new system too. The scope of which will be far less wide spread. You can't guarantee a 0% hardware failure rate. Things they can't plan ahead for like future device compatability (I'm looking at you Apple). Further streamlining of voice commands, obscure foreign accent recognition, or changes to satelite radio features would be likely reasons future software patches. I don't see a recall coming out after its released like the first. If your savvy at all and sign up to syncmyride.com you'll be able to continually update the system by yourself. You know, your pc, mobile phone, and antivirus software need constant software updates. Why would a system like this be any different.
  11. Detroit Free Press He didn't even test the new system. I sure hope all of these journalists bashing mft now have a glowing review the day the update is sent to all the customers.
  12. This is kind of how I figured it would work. Except I thought it would slide under the back glass. This way makes much more sense from an engineering or service stand point. Might look funny from the outside when its open though. We'll have to see.
  13. Did you get it to work at all? I never have. I'm a member of four forums. Out of those four this is the only one that doesn't have a working mobile site. Also the one with the most traffic. Also the only one with a revenue stream (google ads). These things just don't add up. Don't get me started about using this site with Internet Explorer. Its a little frustrating sometimes. Having said that, I still love it here.
  14. Flower pedals grow to show how good your fuel economy is. This sounds so familiar. I know I've seen this before. Way to be innovative.
  15. I'm always kind of attracted to these wedge cars. Probably because I thought the car from "The Wraith" was the coolest thing ever when I was in the second grade.
  16. Love the design. Just beautiful. The grille, the fascia, the tail, the back glass, just beautiful. I can't wait to see the production version at New York, mostly to see how they'll pull this retractable glass roof off. Not a huge fan of that c-pillar. That's my only qualms with it.
  17. How are their arguments not about product? 100% unique sheet metal, brand exclusive features, upgraded dealership experiences. Image always goes hand in hand with buying anything luxury level. Even if the buyer isn't concerned with image it is there. I think they are trying to remind the press that Lincoln is a luxury brand, not a tarted up Ford. Hence the mamosa station. They aren't just that brand with the black car anymore.
  18. I think I'm in love <3 In my opinion, this is the most stunning sedan to wear a blue oval since I've been alive. Count me as one a little disappointed by the lack of 3.5/3.7. Not as a mechanic, mind you, as a consumer. I just prefer the smoothness of a v6. I admit, my mileage is awful. I drive it around town 90% of the time and have only accumulated 10k miles in 19 months. I like that I don't have to rev i past 3k in around town driving. Now, the EB 4's might be able to. I don't have any seat time with them. Even if I did, it might be different in the much lighter Fusion.
  19. Oh, I hear you. We just got dinged for EEC/ electrical and need p.a. for a lot of different modules, cop's and even alternators! I don't know how they formulate this parts list. It looks completely arbitrary. I don't think we hung any cop's last year under warranty. A few early '11 super duty abs ecu's. Our problem is our cost per repair is way too low. Now that parts prices are going up we are really trending upward. At least we don't need prior approval for 6.0 injectors anymore. Thanks a lot. Almost every 6.0 F-series is done with its warranty anyway! --------------------------------------------- A little powershift anecdotal evidence. We don't see any. They never come in and complain. Haven't done one reflash yet. The only thing I've touched on a new Focus is MFT and one gps antenna module. The guy on Focus Fanatics with 27 different problems (one of Blackhorse's talking points) needs to get a life.
  20. I seem to remember you and I having this conversation. Actually, about three months ago, our FSE kept sending us e-mails with a list of vins that needed the mft update. These were not recall vehicles. It was all done under the tsb's. Exploreres, Edges, and Focuses. So I was thinking, "wow, fordtech was right, I should have been doing this." Strange that you guys got slapped.
  21. Coincidentally, this month's issue of Modified Mustangs & Fords (Feb 2012) has a tech article on driveshafts: The Straight Skinny, What a good driveshaft should be. The editor, Steve Baur, even dedicated his column to upgrading safety equipment along with performance upgrades, and calls out the driveshaft specifically. I don't know if this had anything to do with our You-Tube all star, but its likely. There is also a killer '66 coupe in the feature cars.
  22. Sorry about that. I say de-rate to indicate the computer was limiting engine power. Overspeed would mean the customer went over the speed limiter. Yes, the technician can tell if you took the vehicle to the speed limiter if you haven't cleared the diagnostic trouble codes before your visit to the repair shop. From the book: P0297: Vehicle Overspeed Condition Description: This DTC is set when the vehicle speed limiting conditions have been encountered which is 153 km/h (95 MPH) for F250/F350 vehicles and 130 km/h (81 MPH) for F450/F550 vehicles. The powertrain control module (PCM) limits vehicle speed by limiting fuel when these conditions are met. Fuel is limited only to prevent the vehicle from being operated above the respective speeds and once the vehicle is operated below these speeds there is no limiting. Possible Causes: • Vehicle driven at a high rate of speed Diagnostic Aids: Indicates the vehicle has been operated above the calibrated limited vehicle speed.
  23. This reminds of the brand new Super Duty owner who couldn't understand why it kept going into de-rate on the interstate. Vehicle only had overspeed codes. The Explorer Sport Trac Adrenaline owner who had steering wheel nibble at speeds above 85 mph. She wanted Ford to buy it back.
  24. Huh? I'm sorry.. I was looking at your avatar. What?
  25. Not me! Bringing the Falcon over? I could dig that. As a Mustang? Absolutely not.
