  1. Yes sir HotRunrGuy, the U.S. new vehicle marketplace is disappointed with the current generation Escape. Unless you choose the hybrid, PHEV, or 2.0L versions, the Escape lacks the fundamentals to compete with the best in the segment. Less than 20% of 2021 Escapes at U.S. dealerships are the hybrid, PHEV, or 2.0L versions.
  2. Yes sir Trader 10. But this is actually a good thing, because it's due entirely to a sharp drop in sales to fleets. Ford has traditionally had a higher percentage of total sales go to fleets than any other automaker in the U.S.
  3. U.S. new vehicle sales in Q1 2021 vs Q1 2020 for some automakers. Numbers are based on total sales (retail + fleet). Ford, up 1% GM, up 4% Toyota, up 21.6% Honda, up 16.2% Nissan, up 10.8% FCA US/Stellantis, up 5% Hyundai, up 28% Kia, up 15.7% Volkswagen, up 21% Mazda, up 23% BMW, up 20.1% Subaru, up 22.9%
  4. Good point ice-capades sir, I agree. Ford PR people are just as good now in doing the creative, positive spin for their sales releases as they have ever been. But if Ford is able to sustain some of the positive trends mentioned in the Q1 2021 report (increased retail market share, cutback in fleet sales, increased focus on electrified vehicles especially BEV, and ability to attract customers who previously would not have considered a Ford product), the company may have a bright future ahead.
  5. Lots of good news in that Ford press release for 1Q 2021 U.S. sales. Sales to real retail customers up 23.1% for Ford Motor Co. overall Retail market share up Substantial decrease in fleet sales Electrified vehicle sales up 74% 70% of Mustang Mach-E customers are new to Ford

  7. Update April 1, 2021. U.S. International Trade Commission ruled in favor of SK Innovation, not an April Fools joke either. U.S. ITC says SK Innovation didn't infringe LG Energy Solution patents | Reuters
  8. For passenger cars and light trucks, Ford will probably set a goal for NA that's similar to what it announced in Europe back in February. Ford Europe Goes All-In On EVs On Road To Sustainable Profitability; Cologne Site Begins $1 Billion Transformation | Ford Media Center By mid-2026, 100 percent of Ford’s passenger vehicle range in Europe will be zero-emissions capable, all-electric or plug-in hybrid Will be completely all-electric by 2030 So for Bronco, the next product cycle will have only BEV and PHEV versions upon model introduction, and BEV only toward the second half of the cycle.
  9. Thanks for this link ice-capades sir! Guess we didn't have to wait until the 1st to find out that Voltswagen was an April Fool's joke gone awry. ?
  10. Yes sir Donaldo. Or even better, a prototype BEV Bronco. That would really steal the show at Moab.
  11. I thought the same thing, hopefully we'll get the definitive answer on Thursday.
  12. Brand name Voltswagen will be applied to Volkswagen's BEV products in the U.S. market. 'Voltswagen of America' coming to U.S. (autonews.com)
  13. Any Mustang Mach-E owners on this forum order the Connected Charge Station from their Ford dealership? My wife and I plan on using the ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 charger we already have at our house when our Mach-E arrives. IMO, the Ford branded charger is somewhat expensive for what you get, but that's typical for dealer accessories. Ford issues stop sale of home electric vehicle chargers (autonews.com)
  14. Update March 29, 2021. First Hummer EV to be produced was sold for $2.5 million at Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale. All proceeds from this sale go to the charity Tunnel to Towers Foundation. 2022 GMC HUMMER EV EDITION 1 VIN 001 (barrett-jackson.com) Tunnel to Towers Foundation (tunnel2towers.org)
  15. Yes sir Gbsharon, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and all other U.S. states, people who commit violations of waterways laws can be charged even if those actions took place on private property with permission of the property owner, or on one's own property.
  16. All governments have broken and crooked aspects, that is part of the human condition. In the case of the ZEV requirements for commercial vehicles as mentioned in the OP, a few reasons the U.S. federal government should match California's standards are. California for years has been the trendsetter among U.S. states for regulations that focus on sustainability in the transportation sector The global automotive industry's end goal for both passenger cars & light trucks and for commercial vehicles is 100% ZEV The U.S. automotive industry, and the government bodies in the U.S. that regulate that industry, now have an opportunity to become the world leaders when it comes to achieving the end goal mentioned in #2. That requires a unified effort nationwide.
  17. Yes sir 7Mary3, that is very likely. Federal government and CARB have harmonized regulations in the past. For example, EPA Tier 3 and California LEV rules for light duty vehicle emissions are now the same. U.S. EPA Tier 3 and California LEV III Rulemakings | MECA
  18. I think that the California ZEV standards for commercial vehicles (subject of this thread) are actually ahead of the rest of world. It's good how California set the benchmark in this case, not China or EU. Hopefully the U.S. as a whole will do this too with future regulatory actions and technology development activities for ZEV/BEV, for passenger and commercial vehicles alike.
  19. If "being out of step with the rest of the world" means "USA becomes the clear leader worldwide in BEV technology development and deployment for passenger cars, light trucks, and commercial vehicles", that would be a great thing. I'm rooting for team USA and hope that Mark Phelan can someday write "The U.S. auto industry has surged into the global lead in BEV technology and deployment in all sectors, while the global automotive industry in the rest of the world risks becoming an isolated technical backwater".
  20. Regulatory compliance in the short term for the next 5 years or so. In Europe, Ford has Kuga PHEV in its product lineup to meet Regulation (EU) 2019/631. In the U.S. Escape PHEV and Corsair Grand Touring exist to help Ford meet 2021-2025 CAFE standards. By mid decade when Euro 7 standards get underway, ICE powered vehicles including hybrid and PHEV will see their final days, and by the end of the decade the final nail will be sealed in their coffins for the EU market. Ford is ready for this. they've committed to 100% BEV and PHEV for European market light vehicles by 2026, and complete phase out of any ICE powered vehicles by 2030. Similar dynamics will be in play in other regions where Ford does business. So the next generation for Kuga/Escape and Corsair will necessarily be BEV only.
  21. Yes sir paintguy, will do. I have used EA and ChargePoint stations with my Model S. Some worked well right away, some required some finagling of the connector/adapter before they started charging, and one EA unit failed to charge the vehicle at all. By contrast the Tesla superchargers I've used in Fort Worth, Alvarado, Waco, and Oklahoma City all worked fine the first time.
  22. Yes sir, second generation Jeep Compass is a global product. Stellantis has official sales channels for this vehicle on all continents except Antarctica. Designed and engineered in both the U.S. and Europe, Compass is assembled at Stellantis plants in Brazil, China, India, and Mexico in addition to the Melfi plant in Italy.
  23. Not many. While Ford could play a more active role in expanding DC Fast Charging options for its BEV customers, Mustang Mach-E's range is adequate for both commuting and non-commuting driving scenarios. My wife and I have some road trips planned for the summer after we take delivery of our Mustang Mach-E First Edition. We mapped out primary and alternate routes that take advantage of both Level 2 and DC Fast Charging stations along the routes according to the FordPass app. Escape and Kuga PHEV, and Corsair Grand Touring, are regulatory compliance products more than anything else. They are not competitors to Mustang Mach-E, nor are they viable alternatives to a true BEV from any manufacturer.
  24. Thanks for that data valve sir. Interesting that Car and Driver also recorded 7.7s for the Escape Hybrid SE Sport Hybrid they tested in the comparison with RAV4 Hybrid. Car and Driver's 0-60 acceleration test has a 1 ft rollout of 0.4 seconds, so the "true" 0-60 number is 8.1s. 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid vs. 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (caranddriver.com)
  25. I respect that 92merc sir. In that case, you'll find that the qualitative difference between Ford Escape with hybrid powertrain and with 1.5L gasoline engine is huge. The hybrid is much smoother and quieter, and it feels more responsive too.
