Bought a new edge, and its already in the shop!

I bought a new edge 3 weeks ago. A week after purchasing the vehicle, my family and I went for a long road trip. This is where the first problem started. Every censor the car had was going on and off, from airbags to engine signs, from service your brakes. Then my speedometer would go from 0 to 160 kms. My second problem was yesterday, we were at the grocery store, we loaded up all our bags, get in the car, and the piece of shit didn't start. It wouldn't even turn over. The car is 3 weeks old. I had to call road side assitance. We couldn't put my daughter in the tow truck without a car seat. This was the biggest pain in the ass ever. But you know what really sucks, is that I preach to all me friends and family that they must buy FORD products. And they say that our quality sucks. Well how can I argue with them now! The people down in Oakville better get there shit together! There launch was already delayed cause of quality and it seems like they never fixed it. This car was suppose to save that plant! All I have to say is there lucky it happen to a Ford worker and not someone else. Cause thats all we need is more bad Press.

I am sure that it must be frustrating. If it had happened in your own driveway, maybe you would not be so angry. It does not sound like anything serious. The Edge is not a piece of shit. You probably bought the car when it first came out for the prestige of being able to turn some heads. There are risks involved in buying a car during the first few months of production. The prestige outweighs the risks. I am sure that your car will be as good as new at no cost to you.

I work for Ford and I had to lemon law 2 vans built by Oakville, I believe was 1 was their fault and 1 was a vendor part. But none the less I will never ever buy anything built in Oakville again. My advice get rid of it asap, buy an explorer or expedition they have both been great vehicles for my family, by the way I have 4 daughters and would trust nothing else but my Fords with their safety.

1520 man,

I just recently spoke with a salesman at a local dealer who said that one of his customers experienced the same sensor/warning light issue you speak of. He didn't mention it not starting, but the other part sounded the same. I feel for you, we want a new vehicle soon and the Edge is our first choice.

I don't know how to implore my fellow Ford workers enough, WE HAVE TO RAISE THE QUALITY!! Why does this just not register? What more than a bankrupt employer must we as a whole see to straighten up and build them right? Just makes me pull my hair out at some of the stuff I still see go on. Inexcusible people. Build it like its YOURS! I wish the UAW would just hand over the garbage in our plants to Management and let them have their way because we have too much of it. Too damn much of it. It only takes a handful of trash in the system to bring down quality for the rest of us.

It's OUR future ladies and gents. Keep up with status quo and it all may be over. A company cannot lose 12+ BILLION dollars and survive. Don't bring up product, because that's just part of it. Quality sells. Who wants something stylish and flashy that will break in 3 weeks? They want a decent looking, affordable vehicle they can DEPEND on.

Enough ranting....good luck 1520.

Sounds like the same problem (ie electrical). Like a malfunctioning control module . What did the dealers say the problem was when you had the sensor problem and took it in?

You mean other than your post?

Discover the problem, then lay the blame.

Not that it makes you feel any better, the problem might be vendor related.

Dude... do we need to bring up some of shit coming out of YOUR plant?

Let's be careful about the "us vs them" attitude when you are talking about your brothers.

Stop crying, you knew it was built in Canada. If you wanted a quality vehicle you should of bought one assembled in America.

:yup:<-----This is exactly what every US hourly worker did when they read your post. It's a shame Ford is sending 99% of new vehicles out of our country.

OMG, you are kidding right? what in the hell did you mean vendor related, why the hell when everything went wrong with our Ford vehicles, and everyones is so quick blamed it on vendors?why can we just admit the freakin problems (regardless where it been build, everyones getting their pay check with the same FORD logo), then just try to solve it once and for all, instead of blammimg everything on everyones else? FUCK!! this passing the "blame game" is getting really old.

You do not see Canada as a better place to have the car built than, say, Japan?

No. Here's why. Jobs/work leaving our country is just that, it don't matter if its Japan, Canada, Mexico, etc. It's still our work that we don't have. Nobody knows this better than my brothers and sisters at Wixom. Whammy#1- Wixom would have been a perfect plant for the Fusion/Milan/Zepher. We all know where they ended up at. Whammy#2-Wixom is loosing the Town Car to a Canadian plant. UAW says they can NOT follow their job because its out of the country.

I'm not alone with the way I'm thinking. I put the Edge, Fusion, Milan, Zepher, and soon to be Town Car in the same catagory as Toyota or Honda. They are all just imports. And I will NEVER-EVER consider buying one.

That's sort of a narrow way of thinking, is it not?

Canadians, unlike the Mexicans and Japanese, buy a ton of US built vehicles and goods. And it's not just automotive products either, we buy a ton of your agricultural products, and use your services as well. I've made this statement before, yet there are still those people who fail to realize this. We have a broad middle class that eager buys from Americans, unlike Mexicans who can't even afford to buy the products they make.

Given the choice between a shirt made in the USA or overseas, I buy the American shirt. I've owned 2 Wayne built Foci, and an Atlanta built Taurus just in the last 5 years. Mutual support against the overseas is the only way to save jobs. Without Canadian purchases, American jobs are also at stake. I'm looking at going to Vegas soon, perhaps I'll return the gesture, and not spend my money in the US. I'd hate to support foreigners right?

Also, making silly comments about "Canadian Quality" doesn't do anyone any good either. We are all Ford employees, and answer to the same boss. If we get bad parts, it's not our fault if we put them on and they don't work. We do our job to the best of our ability, but the assembly worker often get more blame than the bean counters that bought the cheap parts.

I hate to say but to all of you bitching each other out is crazy. Number 1, when you buy a new car you dont expect it to cut off on you. If alot of people that didnt work at Ford were to read these forums they wouldnt buy a Ford product all together. Also that them vs us stuff not going to help Ford out at all. The UAW is dead its just a former shell of itself. Look at all the plants closing down everything leaving the country. Its all about cheap labor. I dont work at ford anymore and just reading this post about the edge just change my mind about even buying one. When they Launch this car damn near all the bugs should have been work out. Minor things yeah you expect that but for a new car to cut off after 3 weeks is BS buy any standards. 1520 man good luck on your edge.

You are completely full of shit (read: wrong). I didn't nod my head when I read that post.

It looks like we don't know the source of the trouble---yet---with this persons' Edge. It could be a supplier part or parts. He'll have to find out, through the dealer, where the fault lies.
