Thats why even Ford calls this a minor refresh....

Well if you noticed my sub title..it says....most underwhelming refresh ever...

This is as bad as what Ford did with the NA Focus in 2005...

And people where all over that like stink on shit, but yet again FOE gets a free pass

redesign/refresh...whatever...all they did was change the headlights and grilll..oohhhh

Inside, the Focus features new instruments designed for better visibility, a new center console option with such features as a 230 volt inverter and USB audio connection, and new colors and materials.

Beginning in 2008, Ford's state-of-the-art PowerShift transmission will be available in the Focus mated to a 2.0-liter Duratorq TDCi common-rail turbo diesel. The PowerShift is a dual-clutch transmission combining the operation of an automatic transmission with dynamics and fuel efficiency of a manual.

When combined with the 2.0-liter diesel, the powertrain offers 10 percent better fuel efficiency and lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions compared to a conventional six-speed automatic.

New features include a capless refuelling system, the new Ford Power Button, a button to start the Focus as long as the driver carries the key, tire pressure warning system and LED rear lights.

If it looks good....should they slap body cladding and plastic all over it for no reason? You're somewhat limited to what you can do lookswise by the platform. See the new Taurus where the lines don't flow *QUITE* as well as on the Fusion. Besides, it's a refresh after 2-3 years to last another 2, not a 6 year ('00 - '05 is 6 model years) refresh like the 2005 Focus was.

You are confusing platform with sheetmetal. Two entirely different things. Just because vehicles share platforms does not mean the sheetmetal needs to look at all similar. For an example look at the Mazda 3 and then look at the Volvo S40.

Well, if you look at the 2007 vs 2008 Focus you'll see that even the side sheetmateal has changed:

yes - all sheet metal except for the roof was changed .. despite the drolling in the US, the C1 Focus is largely considered a HUGE BLANDMOBILE in EU - it is a great car, but bland as hell - this refresh is supposed to rectify that ... and expect the 2010 Focus3 to fully depart from this bland look to something very Verve-ishly exciting.

That door crease looks almost the same as our fugly '08 Focus. I wonder if that was intentional in an attempt to find some sort of commonality between the two schools of design before they are merged (mostly) on the C2?

it was said many times before - the 08 Focus is quite kinetic in its design .. it is quite CRUDE in the execution and tries a little too hard to impress and surprise, but save for hte "trapezoidal lower intake" - the whole 08 Focus is very kinetic:

-the overall shape of the tail

- the tail lights

- the greenhouse shape

- the body crease on the side

- the upper grill shape and headlight shape

I'm not confusing them. I meant you can't vastly change the sheetmetal in a minor refresh because you'd have to change all the underlying parts. Saying platform was the wrong choice of words, sorry. For example, you can't have a minor refresh of slapping the Mazda3 sheet metal onto the Euro Focus, now can you?
