Ford Motor Company: September 2007 Sales

Recommended Posts

If he come from Toyota he might be getting a big bonus from Toyota to screw up Chrysler, should not be to difficult with the asset strippers helping out, then thats one less for Toyota to complete against.

Cerberus isn't paying him $50 million to screw up. They could have hired from within to do it just as effectively.

50 million, thats small change for Toyota, Jim Press could always get a job back on Toyotas board of directors if it all went tits up at Chrysler and they went bust.

Why is everybody laughing at hiring somebody from Ford?

Alan will turn things around, l have full confidence in the man.

We're talking about old Ford management, not Alan. Alan is a Boeing guy, not a Ford guy, which is why he got paid so much to come save Ford.

I was only teasing l new you meant old management, its bit like George Bush putting Sadam in charge of the US nuclear weapons, l would not want anybody like Jim Press ex Toyota CEO running Ford.

Those sales will coming to a grinding halt when Land Rover's engineers go to ask for money to redesign all of their new vehicles and Ford tells them "Sorry, we don't have enough for you." The gravy train looks tempting right now, but long term, Land Rover is going to require a LOT of cash to keep its momentum.

Land Rover will have to invest in new tech, but they will also be able to license it back out. Fords current plans would probably be to spend a lot of money in such technology, and recover a lot of the startup costs in a high value product like the Range Rover. Once Land Rover and simlarly priced car makers have found cheaper ways of making things like axles with build in electric motors they would then seek to start fitting them to cars like the Mondeo. So really all that will happen now is that Ford won't develop the technology and will end up going cap in hand to firms like BMW, Mercedes, Lexus (of Toyota) and Land Rover to pay for the things they need to remain competive in the future. It's like how Ford benefit from Climate control systems from Volvo, or BMW from Hill descent by Land Rover.

One of Land Rover's bosses recently said that Land Rover plan to be the worlds first car maker to include a $10,000 dollar power back with the electric motors built into the axle. His justification? Range Rover buyers can afford it (most earn over $180,000).

The thing is it's not a gamble for Land Rover, but it's a big investment. Question is does Ford want to compete with Toyota or play second fiddle and if Ford won't shell out for such technology then the future is VERY BLEAK for the likes of Lincoln, who's Navigator will have to compete with Land Rover products which are some of the most highly developed in the world.

Stop trying to wind our colonial friends up!

Neither the United States of America, nor Canada, are or have been British colonies for quite some time.

The United States is n not even a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. These "colonies" you refer to consist of the most powerful country in the world, the two fastest growing countries in the world, the largest and eighth largest economies in the world, and the only G8 country to post budget surpluses. So there. :stirpot:

Is it getting cold up there yet?

Funny, lol. It's 16C here so about...61F, in Ottawa and Montreal its 22C (72F) right now. Not hot anymore, but not cold yet either. Actually Winnipeg is the coldest city in North America with the widest range of temperatures from about -50C (-58F) to 40C (104) . It also has the most sunny days and is the only city of over 500000 (About 700000 area population) people without any freeways (well there is a one mile section near the city centre). Lol a little background.

Good info Thanks. Here in Southern California (Los Angeles area) it's still hanging in the 80's (26.666666666666668 C), last year was the dryest on record 3" (0.09144 meters ), traffic sucks, we have way too many people, traffic blows, our Mighty ducks hockey kicked ass :stirpot: , traffic really sucks, and I had to use a measurement converter online for the temperature and water scale.

:woohoo:

Austalia has been in budget surplus for 10 years.

We're not G8 but we do make a Pontiac G8.

With 42% of the world's mineable uranium, we may rule the world yet!!!

LA people complain about traffic, but why do they keep bulding sprawling subdivisions? The blame the car makers for smog, what about all the housing builders?

Why don't they build a train network for commuters? Instead people drive 75 miles one way to work, and call it a short drive?

Anyway, back to topic. Ford has to quit being wimpy with 'Bold Moves' showing singers and highlight the new cars. Also, get some 5-6 speeds in cars/SUVs ASAP.

Flash in the pan

Meaning:

"Something which disappoints by failing to deliver anything of value, despite a showy beginning"

Hmmmm - lets see. After 4 years with little change and still outselling any full sized vehicle that Ford is putting out - despite the "new and improved" 500/Taurus.

Not to mention that I saw my first 2008 Super Duty today. Somebody hit that thing with the ugly stick! :finger: I think some of the people who helped design the Aztec had a hand in it.

Well, with the new Taurus, I think the fact that there are still limited numbers available and this months marketing push hasnt been released yet should be taken into consideration.

Also, the new Super Duty's look amazing (high end versions) I'd gladly take one in a heartbeat, and I don't even need one. As said earlier, the lower end trucks aren't meant to look good, they're meant to be used as work trucks---good, reliable trucks that can take/haul pretty much anything.

It'd be a waste of money on Toyota's part LOL --- Chrysler was dismantling itself pretty well already. :hysterical:

True, But if Mr. Press was planted by Toyota at Chrysler. After he has cured Chrysler of it’s woes, cut out the dead wood, Toyota will make it’s final “pounce” on the domestic and global market and merge (buy) Chrysler for peanuts, as Mr Press recommends it to the board he has put in place.
