Aussie Ford CUV

Ford just announced a hot new CUV for the Australian market called the FPV F6 X. Based on Ford Australia's Territory SUV, the F6 X is the very first non-Falcon model modified by the brand's high-performance FPV division. Applying their trade to the Territory yields an SUV packing a turbocharged 4.0L inline six-cylinder engine producing 362 HP and 405 ft-lbs. of torque. Power is funneled through a ZF six-speed automatic,

I thought Australia was discontinuing the in-line 6?

Austra lia has gone from Euro III to Euro 4 emissions,

the latest Ford can go with the inline 6 is June 2010.

The iron block inline 6 doesn't warm up quick enough to comply.

FoA already testing V6s in Falcons - engineers are delighted with results.

Hot Orion/Huntsman Falcons and Territorys will definitely get Twin Force and can accept Hurricane/Boss engine.

Visually, it looks like a mixture of a 2007 Escape and a Freestyle/Taurus X.

However, mechanically, this is where the Explorer should be. The Territory, Explorer, and Taurus X should all be the same vehicle, yet are not. It should have unitized construction, have car-like driving manners, some kind of AWD system, and all the extra weight and cost saved from the lack of frame and heavy-duty 4WD should be poured right into NVH, interior design, feature content, and quality improvements.

Yeah, we get the Edge, they get this. Who cares, we all know that the Aussie lineup is and always will be different than what we get in the U.S. Not knowing the projected sales for this vehicle in Australia, it would sell about as well here as the current Freestyle does. It's bland and looks like the previous Freestyle on steroids. Just like the Aussie Falcon, it looks like something from the 90's as far as the U.S. market is concerned. I'm so tired of people around here acting like these Australian only vehicles will sell in the U.S. and will be the savior for Ford's U.S. sales.

We basically have three platforms capable of producing vehicles at will : CD3, D3 and E8 (Orion)

There's an awful lot of overlap in products available so hopefully Ford sorts out which suit its needs best.

And the Edge will get the Twin Force V6 as will the Territory in 2010 -both serve similar market niches bit developed differently.

Interesting to note the CD3 based Mazda CX-9 is as big as the Taurus-X / Freestyle (D3) - there's another duplication.

What is the size difference between the Territory and the Taurus X? It does look smaller than the Taurus X but similar in style from the side and rear view.

Like the Falcon is in between Fusion and Taurus

Territory is about 11" shorter than Taurus X

and 5.5" longer than Edge

My only frustration would be that, Ford AU seems to be serious about market share and sales, something I can't say about Ford NA in my opinion...therefore their vehicles with such powerful power-trains might get diluted for the NA market.

The positive aspect might be that being the vehicle will probably debute in AU before it hits the U.S., that there migth be the remote chance that the correct powertrain will be introduced from the start, rather than a year later...
