FAR FAR FAR too early to tell....BUT....if Pipas' numbers are right about 21-days supply on the '08 Focus, it appears that they would have sold more if they were able to ship more. We'll see how that days supply number looks in another few months and revisit this. Until then, it's ridiculous to call it a failure or a success. Indications so far are against your doom-and-gloom hope of failure though.....

Guys...November is a low volume month with total sales under 200,000 vehicles. April, May, June, and even December sometimes is good month for volume and Ford is usually way over 200,000 vehicle sales for month. Look for Focus sales to be in 17,000-20,000 range those months. All you are concerned about in off month like November is that vehicle beat year ago comparisons, and the Focus did by almost 20%. NOVEMBER WAS NOT A BUSY MONTH. January will be another slow month.

I think Volvo is moving out of the C1/2 sphere.

Also, why not Cuautitlan for Bs? I think all Ford's assembling there are a bunch of hand-me-downs anyway; investment to retool that plant would be same as major work at any US plant by the time all's said and done.

I just think a US B strategy is too knife-edge success/fail to make sense long term.

You make a good point as I heard that the Ikon has ceased production. Thats a huge plant to keep only for old F150/F250s...

From my understanding, the '07 availability was pretty non-existent most of the month, so I'd say the vast majority was '08 sales.

I think the Focus is starting to let Ford down, Sales are down in Europe -8% this year, and are down -2.6 for the year to November in 2007 in North America. The compact budget car sales market have seen a +19.4% rise in 2007 to September for this year which l think is due to the steep rise in the price of gasoline. Why has the Ford Focus sale not had the same +19.4% rise in sales like this sector seeing at the moment?

That 2.6% decline will be made up if the Focus is up as much in December as it was in November (which seems likely). In other words, 2 months of the new model will make the slowing sales of the old model a wash for the year. Pretty good if you ask me.

Why has the Focus not had the same increases? Because it was freakin OLD. Look at the new model's sales. Hey look! They're up right around that 19.4% you quoted.

Focus sales look poor Nick compared to the 38.8% rise in the Sales of the Ford Fusion, l find charts like this are useless the hide the fact that Focus sales are in decline by -2.6% when everybody else has enjoyed 19.4% rise.

ONCE AGAIN, Ford was selling the OLD Focus for 10 months this year. The fact that it was ONLY down 2.6% (actually 4.1% through October when the last of the '07s were going out and before the '08s were showing up) is rather remarkable to me looking at the declines across much of the rest of Ford's lineup. The new Focus, in only 2 months, could possibly wipe out that 4.1% decline and actually show an INCREASE for the Focus this year. Will it be 19.4%? Of course not. But Focus sales were up close to that much in November..and may likely be up even more in December.

You talk shit Nick the compact market that is enjoying a massive +19.4% rise mainly due to very high gasoline prices, a lot of other manufacturers are selling old cars so stop making poor excuses for poor performances at Ford -2.6% is poor.

They are all selling old cars? Other than the inexplicable sales of the Corolla, most other compacts are pretty darn NEW! Sentra, Civic, Elantra, Cobalt, etc are all SIGNIFICANTLY fresher than the '07 Focus was. Now that the '08 Focus is fresh, wow, its sales increased by close to the 19.4% you keep spouting off. Stop trying to find evidence of conspiracy where it doesn't exist.

Nick if you look at the old Toyota Prius sales were up 50.7% last month, its only riding high on high gasoline prices, its not getting a make over till 2009 stop making excuses. Sure everybody will want a new Focus for the first few months take a look at sales after that. This new Focus offers nothing new its still the same boring bland Focus that l would not touch with a bargepole l would not want one if you gave it to me for free, as much as l hate the Prius at least it will be offering something radical in 2009 100 MPG. stop making excuses for poor performance Nick.

Well then, it's a good thing you don't live in the US and have to deal with them then. Go talk about some 15 year old Escorts racing through the desert or something.

Well when the cheerleaders here start making these ridiculous claims somebody has to put them in their place.

Ford makes the best compact car on the planet, is that good enough??

Remember, the original Focus sold in numbers that were close to taking over the top spot from the Corolla and the Civic, not even selling half what they do isn't an accomplishment.

You know at one time Ford has almost all the market with the Model T. I have now decided that i will never be happy until that is again the case. :hysterical::stirpot:

Once again, 13 Recalls and crappy build quality for the first 4 years it was made make it a major accomplishment that they even sell half that number...

Now Silver, you listen here, and I mean it. Progress does not matter. Form now on we will focus on the past. We're going to go back as far as we have to for any issue to make sure that I can complain. The Model T was the best and almost only vehicle. Until we get back to having almost 100% of the market, we can't be happy. We ignore progress until we get to the exact same state and when we get there we complain because its not better. You really need to learn how REAL PEOPLE outside of the BON fantasy see things. Your a blind cheerleader who only follows around Richard. On yeah, I forgot, your also a neo con. :shades:
