ray101988
I just got done reading an article about how GM and Chrysler are coming out with hybrids for their trucks. Does anyone know if Ford has ANY plans at all for some sort of hybrid or any other way other than the Ecoboost engines to increase FE? Where hybrid is now, it's really just superficial "look we care about the environment somehow". I think the focus will be on the Ecoboost, which is more practical, and can be sold in a higher volume. While Hybrids are usually a lose, why make a lot of em.
J2D
That sorry ass name ecoboost and F-150 don't seem to go hand-n-hand too me, why not go back to twin-force or something?
GreyPony
As it seems, at the moment Ford can't get enough components for the Escape Hybrid. How could they produce a hubrid version of the most selling vehicle?
J-150
a good diesel will outdo a hybrid in a pickup any day. -longer life expectancy -equal or better fuel efficiency -lower cost to repair -greater dependability

suv_guy_19
Dodge is claiming a 25% increase in mileage on their Hemi Hybrid theyre working on. That may be, but they already sacrifice capacity. They are nowhere near Ford in towing and hauling. The GM two mode can only tow 6000 lbs. It makes no sense to buy a truck that isn't a truck. Maybe they could add displacement on demand? Theyre rumored to be working on HLA still.

I was under the impression we were comparing two vehicles that had 6000 pound towing capacities. IIRC, wasn't Ford thinking of buying the two mode transmission from GM? Sounds like the EcoBoost 3.5 with the two mode transmission would make a good combination. Edited January 16, 2008 by StevenCaylor

Oh, well yeah, the Ranger sucks, but so does the towing capacity of that hybrid. The Ranger though, is a much smaller initial investment. I guess we will have to see what Ford does. Sorry for snapping by the way. I thought it was somebody else. Edited January 16, 2008 by suv_guy_19

GM has no real hybrids like Ford does, plus they sell them at a loss. And yeah, Diesel + EcoBoost is a much smarter route. Cheaper and will provide better results/ROI. P71_CrownVic
Notice the size difference between a Ranger and a Silverado.... You didn't say anything about size. You were ripping the GM for only being able to tow 6k...and then said that it isn't a truck because it can only tow 6K pounds. I guess the Ranger is not a truck. The ranger is a small truck. The Silverado is a light duty full size truck. 6000 lbs is rather low when you are spending that money and with that size of engine. What do you think that people are going to associate with fuel economy, twin turbos or the word "hybrid"?

I'm not sure the Ecoboost will be able to tow much either though. They are both good ideas, but they need work.
