FoMoCobra
Ford never said that the Ranger is dead They never said what their plans are after its plant closes ... Igor Well, I'm glad to hear that its not officially dead. Its got a lot of potential even if that segment is shrinking. Wouldn't be surprised if it starts growing again. Heck, I might be interested in a Ranger soon. Local Ford dealership sells them for 12K. Extended cab v6.
Furious1Auto
I'm puzzled. I really think the Ranger should get the same type of redo as the current Focus. It would stay inexpensive get excellent gas mileage and will save the costs associated with a redo. Toss some tech at it like the Sync and its sales should continue to rise. Even if a hybrid powertrain was added it would still sticker at about $20K. This is the perfect truck for the current Economy just like the Focus is the perfect car. I think Ford will reconsider or shortly introduce a replacement. The market will be moving toward Ranchero, El Camino type vehicles that are more fuel efficient. GM had a 4 door El Camino retro futuristic concept at the autoshow this year. Ford needs to import a # of LSD Falcons to the U.S.

You think that the unitbody RWD truck will provide ANY advantage over the small trucks? The Aussie utes, are more expensive, heavier, more fuel-thirsty, and have lower payload - sure they look hot, but MAN!! talk about the worst of all worlds .. wescoent
you forget one more - Transit Connect. For the use the Ranger actually sees - the TC is a perfect replacement Igor In theory, but the TC doesn't have the Ranger's infinite vertical space in the bed. Draw up a TC pickup, and we might be on to something. There's the second issue of offroading capability.

It probably does not even have a drivetrain in it but it was getting allot of attention! and you think it will make it to production? If GM does manage that - that would be cool - but remember Ford does not have an answer - Ford's Hybrid system cannot tow- only the 2MODE system can tow - and Ford does not have access to that one. So the Falcon Ute would not do anything. Igor
Ford Jellymoulds
CNBC annonced the sad news that Ford also said it would eliminate shifts at four U.S. plants and lay off some 2,500 workers -- or almost 5 percent of its remaining work force as part of an effort to cut costs and return to profitability next year. Ford said it would run its Chicago and Louisville, Kentucky, assembly plants on one shift rather than the current two shifts starting this summer. http://www.cnbc.com/id/23449567/site/14081545 Toyota are in the same boat they saw sales drop by 6.6%, light truck sales were pressured by high gas prices. http://www.cnbc.com/id/23449859
P71_CrownVic
Oh no the Taurus is outselling the ! Sable Sales are still in the dumper though.... Finally. And again...the Sable has a <1000 sales month. Yet another month proving Mercury needs to go away. ranger sales...wow.....mustang sales...ouch...for sure the shift to fuel efficient vehicles is starting...edge sales up nicely as well Ford must be making a killing on the Ranger. If Ford could only increase the gas mileage of the Ranger... Edited March 3, 2008 by P71_CrownVic

Your right though, I don't believe that the Denali XT will ever make to production at least not in it's current form! That is where Ford has the advantage, they already own the Falcon platform and would only have to retrofit a fuel efficient drivetrain, maybe a 3.5 Liter with a 6 speed tranny! They could beat GM to market by 5 years or better! Edited March 3, 2008 by Furious1Auto

How is California intruding on your ownership of an 8 year old Crown Vic? How are we intruding on any new cars you are buying? Last checked our laws dont apply in MN, the same way state inspections in the rest of the country mean nothing here. That's as long as any of them last without a major refresh.....after that they get old real fast, no matter how many Special Editions they dream up.
