NickF1011
The roofline. I would say it goes beyond the roof. The issues with the front and back are more cosmetic though.
P71_CrownVic
I would have brought it whether in response to you or to someone else. God himself dosen't believe that... As for Escort. What "makes sense" about that? Escort was previously a C-car. So they should name their new B-car after an old C-car instead of naming it after an old B-car and a B-car that still exists in the rest of the world? Yes. That makes SOOOO much more sense. And the old Taurus was a mid-sized car and now it is a large car. Try again.
silvrsvt
And the old Taurus was a mid-sized car and now it is a large car. Try again. The old Taurus straddle the line between a mid-sized and a full-sized car...and you couldn't get an I4 in it after the 1988 production year...which is a hallmark of the Compact/midsized car market
JETSOLVER
Strange you should say that. The original always struck me as a big car, and the third gen seemed quite a bit smaller, inside and out, even though that was just visual. Now, the 500 ne Tauri seems huge to the eye and a parking spot. Really notice the height when I walk out to one at the airport.
NLPRacing
SHO Super High Output. Do I win a cookie? :happy feet: If "Super" is such a bad word, what does the first letter of Chevy's SS stand for? Ford seems to like the word "Super" too, they have the Super Duty trucks. I think SHO would make a good name as well for a high end, sporty Taurus. I've always been a fan of the SHO's. Will The Taurus ST/SHO/Sport (whatever it'll be called) have a DSG and/or manual transmission available?

Excactly...I think the new Taurus design will lose much of its "heavyness" that has plagued it since its intro. The MKS does a fine job not looking huge like the 500/Taurus does. theoldwizard
Why not just call the TAURUS GT?...you know, like MUSTANG GT? Because there are thousands of Taurus SHO owners, hoping beyond hope, that there will be another Taurus SHO and they actually might have enough money to buy one ! (Of course, I'll bet, none of them owned a V8 Taurus. According to Ford's records this was a fine engine. Of course their data stops before 50K miles) I always wished I could have afforded a dark green Taurus V6 ! Sadly, there will likely be no manual option. I doubt that they can even get a PowerShift trans put together by 2010-2011 for this engine.

Frankly I bet most SHO owners wouldn't give a damn what they CALL the car, as long as Ford puts out a worthy heir to its legacy.

So far we haven't heard of any tranny Ford has that can handle that kind of power. And do you know how many powertrain engineers Ford has left? Some people think they have just one considering they are slowest in the market to bring out new engines. :D
Ford Jellymoulds
Plus I would be willing to bet if you asked a hand full of enthusiasts they know what the SHO means over "ST"... ST means ShiT, l have seen them perform on the rally tracks in UK they are made to look like second rate shit by 70's RWD Escorts, Ford are going backwards in Europe it should be AWD like the Focus RS. Without question, the best SHO ever was the 2nd-generation V6 manual model, and this new Taurus ST is in no way a successor to that car. It's closer to an old turbo Audi S6 in spirit than anything else. If the 2.5L I4 EcoBoost Fusion comes to fruition, that would be an excellent starting point for a true successor to the SHO. Drop it an inch, throw on some 18" rims, beef up the AWD system, boost the engine up to 325hp, rig up a PowerShift transmission with paddle shifters, replace all the chrome with dark satin aluminum trim, and toss in some sport seats. $34,000, one price. Call it the Fusion GT. Now, do the same thing to the new Lincoln MKZ, except turn up the boost to 340hp, and charge $40,000 for it. Call it the MKZ Touring. Performance cars are so easy to design. JETSOLVER
Performance cars are so easy to design. True, if the original intent was designed in. Add ons after the fact are just that, stickers. Of course, add ons also push the cost through the roof as failure after failure of seemingly unrelated parts adds time and money. Beancounters just don't get the passion for cars. Engineers just don't get the need for penny pinching, and Ford NA just doesn't get the need for street creed to create a new generation of fans. They think Sync is the same as Brembo's... That was the idea behind SVO/SVT. To make sure that headroom was left in a design, to mitigate costs and SHOCK make for a credible product. I'll leave you to wonder what might happen now.... Ford Jellymoulds
On TG they said it was slang for 'sanitary towel'. Well the Santary Towels were not red hot at a rally l watched a couple of years ago even with F1's Tony Jardine driving one of of them they looked very poor & second rate compared to the 1970's RWD escorts that were in the rally, an Escort won the rally gota say l was not all that impressed at all with ST it was very sloooooooooooooow. http://www.rogeralbertclarkrally.org/RAC_A.../Kallkwik06.pdf Edited June 4, 2008 by Ford Jellymoulds
JETSOLVER
In bumping around, I think I found what many might consider an acceptable ST model of the Taurus, with sheetmetal adapted. Evo on the Mondeo 2.5t FTA "The styling, that’s ‘premium’ (actually it’s a bit heavy around the rear three-quarter, although the estate is rather handsome), the cabin is ‘premium’ too (in this case ‘premium’ meaning spacious, pleasant, apparently well made), and the options…" "Linear steering, massive grip, sturdy brakes – a class act all round." " Put engine and chassis together and you’ve got a brilliantly matched combo of poise and – being ultimately quicker than the old Mondeo ST220 – decent pace. And will anyone care? Probably not, because yer average disinterested punter will still lust after something German with a posher badge even though this car is almost certainly nicer to drive than pretty much any Audi bar the RS4. Instead the Mondeo will carry on doing what it’s always done, pleasing people who aren’t badge snobs and those who don’t have a choice. In a world of Little Chefs, it’s a secret slice of haute cuisine." Damm, that sort of sounds exactly what the SHO always was(yes, best friend had two). Also a shot straight at the hotrod G8/GTO/whatever, while not going the same route. Missed product? I think so. And in a little bit more irony, the marketing label on the car is that of "Titanium X". Hmm is there not a premium version of a Ford truck with that name...?
