P71_CrownVic
Thats not the road, a negative one at that, that I was going down to. I was stating it in a positive way, as in..."well this seems to be a better deal if someone really wanted performance over luxury"...route... But if this is the case..."the MKS is about 400 pounds heavier, has several inches of extra wheelbase and length, and very differently tuned chassis.... the share components - yes - but they are FAR from a rebadge ..." Then its 1990's all over again, between Taurus and Conti...again, NOT a bad thing. Then they should have called the MKTaurus whgat it actually is...a Continental. NickF1011
Then they should have called the MKTaurus whgat it actually is...a Continental. I actually agree there. I don't like letter names most of the time. That said, I doubt the name will make one lick of difference as to how many of them they sell. ANTAUS
I dont think the letter names will stick for long, once they get a new CEO, that philosophy will change real quick...or change the whole confusing Mark this, Mark that, Mark me, etc. but thats a whole other topic... IMO they could phase Continental back in as a trimline in preparation to do away with the MKSoup as ANTAUS is predicting.

I just finally went to Media.Ford (should have done that from the get-go) - it lists them both as 112.9 ... hmm .. I would have bet the MKS had longer wheelbase - this might be a stupid case of Ford recycling Specs page on their media page .. let me check other sources. well - I thin you ARE correct - they do share wheelbase .. so they are closer in size than I had thought .. but the MKS is still 500 lbs heavier .. Sizzler
Then why not call it SHO? Do you know what S H O stands for? That's why. Not too many people go around calling things SUPER anymore. Sport is more the word today.
NickF1011
Better hope so. Otherwise the Flex and Fiesta will be in trouble. Flex is kind of silly, agreed. I still fail to see any problem with the name Fiesta though. Both are certainly more appealing than "Crown Victoria".

Tell me, why do you insist on bringing them up in every thread? Why are YOU so obsessed with them? Anyway, the problem with Firsta is that it is WAY too close to Festiva. The car should have ben called Escort. But that would make too much sense.

02MustangGT
Yeah, because Escort is so appealing....and if Ford would have named the Fiesta an Escort, you would've been complaining that they should've named it "Fiesta". Seriously, the car will sell because of it's looks and content, not because of it's name.
danup
It should've been called Verve. It'll sell no matter what, but Fiesta sounds cheap and connotes the Festiva, two of which still putter around Columbia. Verve sounds newer. Blueblood
Fiesta is a good name that hasn't hurt the car one bit aroud the world where it's sold, Verve just sounds gay.

Igor I think the bigger wb and L figures Igor quoted was for the concept. I noticed back when the production MKS debuted that the wb was reduced to the same one as the Taurus and I was confused why they ended up using the same WB as the Taurus rather than offering a longer one for their Lincoln flagship? In actual cubic feet, the Taurus is bigger inside! I wonder if the wt increase for the MKS will be passed on to the 2010 Taurus as it appears they had to beef up the chassis for the TF engine. We'll see!

The car should have ben called Escort. But that would make too much sense. I bring up Crown Victoria simply because it's a god awful horrid outdated name. I would have brought it whether in response to you or to someone else. If Fiesta is too close to Festiva in your mind (most people don't remember EITHER ONE being sold here before anyway), then maybe you need to go back to school. As for Escort. What "makes sense" about that? Escort was previously a C-car. So they should name their new B-car after an old C-car instead of naming it after an old B-car and a B-car that still exists in the rest of the world? Yes. That makes SOOOO much more sense. jpd80
Random thought, Would Ford entertain a long wheelbase Fusion like the new Mazda 6 ahead of CD3/EUCD merger? A DN101 Taurus sized Fusion would make sense if you wanted to recombine Fusion and Taurus. I think it would be lighter than trying to down size the D3 Taurus. Perhaps that would open up another car spot between Focus and an in betweener Fusion/Taurus. Edited May 30, 2008 by jpd80
RichardJensen
Would only benefit back seat riders to the tune of a few inches. Take it from a DN101 owner who knows--Ford did not make the best use of available space in that model......
jpd80
Is the D3 Taurus a little too large for the markert, could it be a tad smaller/lighter?
