I have not seen Nissan yet, which would be the next potential threat to F-series position.

Talk about a paradigm shift.

Well $4.00 fuel will do that. The main thing for Ford to focus on as far as F-Series goes at this point is to make sure it continues to be the best selling pickup. Things are just going back to the way they were in the 1970's and early 80's.

So where are all the cheerleaders who praised Ford's decision to not launch the new F150 with Ecoboost engines?

Oh that's right, they're too busy still praising Padilla's idiocy that allowed the Focus to have a 100%+ boost in retail sales.

Yup, no C1 in 2005 was a brilliant move alright, so was not launching your most important product with fuel efficient engines.

i concur...launch a new product with old engines..brilliant...NOT.....ford needs to get a nuclear bomb under the assess of those involved with ecoboost..it needs to happen ASAP....id even go as far to say...put the ecoboost in the current ranger and keep the line running until the replacement arrives

Seeing as how the '09 F150 hasn't even launched yet, what in the world are you talking about? I mean, besides your usual "nothing important"?

reflective of current events that I don't think ANYONE was ready for...ecoboost IS coming, not fast enough, but then again one can not just add water....and as far as trucks go PC, Ford is ahead of the equation in comparison with EVERY truck manufacturer, I doubt ANY will release anything even CLOSE to the eco-boosts efficiency ( wow, pure speculation on how good i think they will be...LOL! :cheerleader: ) in their pickups BEFORE Ford...personally i think they are ahead of the curve...this whole gas BS/ crisus is a slap in everyones face, not just ford....bet priorities on weight, parasitic losses, electro steering, idle off, regenerative braking/ alternators etc etc all got bumped to the top of the priority table.........

Scenario 1: Launch new vehicle when vehicle is ready, even if new engines come later because they are not ready.

Scenario 2: Delay new vehicle launch completely until new engines are ready.

Scenario 3: Launch new vehicle with new engines, quality and reliability be damned.

Only a moron would push for Scenario 3. Oh wait, look who I'm quoting.... :slap:

Leave it to the American public to act like idiots when faced with the slightest hint of a problem. Wonder how many of those sales came from people trading in SUVs they were upside-down on?

And only an idiot would say Scenario 1 was the way to go, AFTER witnessing the disaster known as the GMT900's.

Oh wait, look who I'm quoting, same guy who's ignoring I rooted for S2. :finger:

what the hell dean...ford just lets the small pickup go more to yoda?..thats where it is going..the sales numbers above just prove that more so...if ford can not put the ecoboost in...then squeeze out as many 4 banger rangers as they can..personally..i do not want to see TCAP closed until the replacement small pickup is on line....

I'm not quite sure how one could quantify the GMT900's as a "disaster". They needed to happen, just as a new F-150 and Focus and Escape needed to happen, powertrains ready or not.

putting a sophisticated drivetrain in a 100 year old chassis is the EXACT opposite of the groaners here quibbling about it NOT being put in the 09 F-150...both trains of logic faulter for respective reasons.....Ranger needs a FULL overhaul, F-150 has drivetrain upgrades to suffice until all the necessary "quirks" and regs are worked out...which takes TIME!

You nailed the priority list, but people outside the industry tend to forget about the supplier issues.

Sure the majors get hit hard with falling sales, but the small suppliers get a solid one two in the face. They have to contend with lower revenue from hulking item managers, AND have to create and entire new class of integrated componentry from scratch, all the while contemplating insane overhead increases. I don't know how many this go round will cost the tier II and III group, but its hard to surge an entire industry when they are literally sleeping in the shop.

They have my respect for doing it, but I got out of that sort of thing years ago, and do not regret the stress one little bit.
