The 707 website was updated on June 20 but the editor Tim Batke has not updated the layoff info since February. Are all the members from Windsor and St. Thomas back yet?

 

Laid-off workers from Windsor and St. Thomas from January 2012 started back on Monday, June 18th.

How many units do you produce on a 10 hour shift and on an 8 hour shift? Do you have mass break or tag relief? Are you working Saturdays? Is there any talk of a third shift as sales are ever increasing month to month? What are the inventory levels of your (OAC) products ? How many people are retirement eligible?

No, unless you guys take wage cuts in the contract.

Wage cut = Product

No wage cut= plant closing

 

They don't have to cut wages, just do away with COLA and inflation will do the rest.

 

We need to fight for COLA and premium jobs. Let young people work on the line, and older workers have the opportunity to bid on easier jobs. It is not right when a sixty something worker on the line watches a young kid driving around the plant on a buggy. The union doesn't agree; at least the ones I talk to. They need to go back on the line.

 

The union believes in age discrimination. They believe that at a certain age, everybody should retire. That is gone now, just like in the past when they discriminated against women, homosexuals, blacks, and non-Christians. Age discrimination is illegal now. Retirement is a personal decision; not something to be dictated to a person. The union needs to educate themselves and get with the times.

Those premium jobs have beeen contracted out and will not be back as Ford jobs. You can retire and get hired working for Voith at $15 or Penske at around $18.

 

On a side note I hope OAC will remember how Windsor employees threatened to go on strike to keep OAC open at a time when we couldn't build enough engines. We have paid the price for this threat and now is the time for payback vote no unless Windsor gets new product. Your upcoming (OAC) investment is for certain.

According to the law (OHRC Age Discrimination), companies are not supposed to eliminate mostly jobs of senior workers when downsizing. Most of the departments that were outsourced were manned by senior workers. I have never heard the union use that argument. Whose side are they on?

 

I can't retire and take a job at Voith. They are not obliged to hire retired Ford workers.

 

I would strike for you, but it is up to the union. The majority will do what the union tells them, and it seems like the union does what Ford tells them.

The freedoms that we have were won by standing up to extortionists who warned us of the consequenses of disobedience. Sheep are sheep because they do what they are told. If they are planning to close the plant, they will close it. No amount of begging or crawling will change that.

If you're trying to make a case for a business plan, why then would they not move all of the product outside of North America? I think the picture is a lot bigger than what most of us think we know.

How low would a person go? There are gulags in North Korea. Maybe they can get some ideas from there. When an auto company messes up a nice community with their factory, it behooves them to provide lots of good paying jobs in return. These jobs should pay an ethical wage which puts the worker in a high enough tax bracket that he is at least paying his share of the federal and provincial budgets, plus providing a good life for his family. These citizens should not be on their hands and knees begging and under-cutting each other for jobs. If that is the case, they were better off before the factory scarred up their nice town.

Remember the formula? Remember the promises? Remember?

 

The 2nd tier members would only be 2nd tier till their level reached 20%. These entry level members had hope, given to them by Ford and the IUAW. One day they to would become first tier members "when" their total numbers reached the mystical number of 20%. Remember?

 

When questioned both the IUAW Rep`s and Ford (kinda) explained that with all the projected work coming to the plants the total number of entry level members would reach the mystical 20% in short time. Remember?

 

When questioned, sometimes multiple times, how this transition would work? The IUAW Rep`s looked at each other and came up with this responce. "One for One".... When the entry level members total numbers reached yep, the mystical 20%, at that point every entry level member brought in would then push one 2nd tier member into the 1st tier. Remember?

 

Does anyone remember the statements about LTS or TPT or STPT members? Remember how all these labels that made members as second class, none seniority building and no or low range benefits members was going away as soon as the new contract was ratified? Remember?

 

If you do then give this a thought. The 4000 CAW members might not be replaced at all.... not with 2nd tier members nope. This would push the total number of enetry level members if not close to but, possibilly over the mystical 20%.... Now I can`t speak for any other plant but here at CAP a really weird thing is accuring??? Yes, CAP is hiring LTS members?

 

Unbelievable? no not really. Stop and think, we have had many issues in the last few contracts "clarified" well after ratification.... How would Ford get the help from the IUAW to keep labor costs competitive? Maybe the mystical 20% was agreed on and also agreed to never reach it? This would give Ford their help and the IUAW would get more members. At redused dues rates but, more members just the same.....

 

Remember the financial meeting Ford had with banks and investors? The mystical 20% was questioned by more than one member of the meeting. The answers were very creative. Ford`s CFO but it like this.... we will hire 6,7, or 5 thousand employee`s and then he restated Ford would be.... HIRING a lot of people...then stating we are going to be creating a lot of jobs.... One Chase representitive stated " What about the trend to top tier jobs?" No answer was given.... remember?

 

With this said, I can only hope that our CAW sisters and brothers can hang tough. Please.. Remember.... it really isn`t the UAW members against CAW members. No. it is about selling labor by one orgainization and buying services by another orgainization.

The 20% new hire limit doesn't include Rawsonville and Sterling. The percentage could go much higher, depending on how many first tier retire from those two plants, and the amount of work sourced.

From what I've heard all tier1 have to be out of Rawsonville by a certain date. Apparently all the new work was bid on tier 2. Hopefully not. Hope everyone there gets to stay. Not off to never never land aka DTP where we all ended up

The salary turnover rate has dropped at DTP since Bigcountry started serving his "Kreme Filled" donuts!

I seen skilled trades building a donut stand up stairs in the salary offices!

Also heard salary has been trying to get the name of DTP changed from Dearborn Truck Plant to

Donut Truck Plant!

The ford deal does nothing but benefit the union. There is nothing in the new contract for the members. No new product, no third shift,no cola, no nothing. Not even family day . That must have been a hard contract to put together? Must have took about ten minutes.

$3,000 signing bonus, $2,000 cost of living payments in Dec 2013, 2014, 2015. Partial third shift starting in the next few months with over 200 new jobs. New investment for global platform with 400 more jobs before end of 4 year contract. The cost-of-living adjustment is frozen again until the final three months of the agreement in 2016. New workers to reach full wage at 10 years - no two tier system. Pretty good over all.
