mackinaw
From today's Automotive News. Article by Rick Kranz: “LOS ANGELES — The Ford brand will unveil the next step toward its global design language next month at the Detroit auto show. "While the vehicle debuting in Detroit "is not the next-generation design language, it will be a big step in the direction of the global design DNA," Mays said. "Mays said the first vehicle to adopt what he called post-kinetic design is more than a year away. He did not identify the vehicle. "Ford has refused to identify the vehicle, but industry sources expect it will be the 2010 Taurus.”

Hugh
No, it's not the 2010 Ford Taurus, he is talking about the new Focus. I thought the MKIII Focus is out in 2012 and that is still a ways away. The 2010 Taurus makes more sense. Heck the 2010 Fusion has elements of NA, Euro and AUS in it's styling. PREMiERdrum
My money's on the Focus... I doubt the new "global, post-kinetic" design language would debut on the Explorer. The Focus is a world car, so this makes sense. I hope it is NOT like that rendering posted a while back...

Ford has a tendency to launch the C-Max on the C-platform before launching the Focus.

That would make it a 2011, plus there has been grumblings of the Fiesta getting pushed back a little bit also...I don't see the Focus and Fiesta launching at the same time

The C-Max would only be taller and squarer. Besides, any car that will be at the auto show will be a concept. The real car will have the same design clues, but could look completely different. waymondospiff
What vehicles are being launched soon? 2010 Ford Fusion - just launched, doesn't make sense 2010 Ford Taurus - hasn't debuted, but timing could be off, plus existing photos show a relatively "safe" Ford-esque design...but it is a production launch, and that fits the bill...but then again the Taurus isn't a world car. 2010/11 Ford Fiesta - hasn't had US debut, but should be similar to EuroFiesta already available for sale 2010/11 Ford Explorer - hasn't debuted, but like Taurus, US-only product would be an odd way to show off new "world design." 2011/12 Ford Focus - hasn't debuted, not seen anywhere yet, no vehicle is more important to Ford worldwide than the Focus...good candidate, but it'd be surprising to see a production car this early. Anyone else with an idea? Scott

One being a 'transitional' vehicle debuting in Detroit, the second being the first post-kinetic car, which is more than a year away. I'm thinking Taurus and Focus respectively. Most concepts that will wind up in production look much like their production brethern. Only Pie in the sky stuff like Plug Hybrids and Hydrogen cars only have styling cues that future Fords might possess
