mlhm5
The US military has warned that surplus oil production capacity could disappear within two years and there could be serious shortages by 2015 with a significant economic and political impact. The energy crisis outlined in a Joint Operating Environment report from the US Joint Forces Command, comes as the price of petrol in Britain reaches record levels and the cost of crude is predicted to soon top $100 a barrel. "By 2012, surplus oil production capacity could entirely disappear, and as early as 2015, the shortfall in output could reach nearly 10 million barrels per day," says the report, which has a foreword by a senior commander, General James N Mattis. BlackHorse
http://www.oilprice.com/article-debunking-the-myth-of-peak-oil-why-the-age-of-cheap-oil-is-far-from-over-part-1.html At first the Bakken field was thought to be the largest domestic oil discovery in the USA since Alaska's Prudhoe Bay, but has since been downsized, then increased 25 fold by the USGS when shale production is taken into account. There’s enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 40 years straight. And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL! Well, except we know those damn oil barrons are going to gouge us, but cheap oil nonetheless. Edited April 17, 2010 by BlackHorse

akirby
In other news, the US Military also warns that the stock market will crash and a giant tsunami will wipe out Hawaii.
mlhm5
http://www.oilprice.com/article-debunking-the-myth-of-peak-oil-why-the-age-of-cheap-oil-is-far-from-over-part-1.html How would the largest consumer of oil in the world with a $ Trillion yearly budget actually know more than you. The U.S. Department of Energy admits that “a chance exists that we may experience a decline” of world liquid fuels production between 2011 and 2015 “if the investment is not there”, according to an exclusive interview with Glen Sweetnam, main official expert on oil market in the Obama administration. Sir Richard Branson and fellow leading businessmen will warn ministers this week that the world is running out of oil and faces an oil crunch within five years. Adding to concerns long held by energy experts, Shell CEO Jeroen van der Veer said that by 2015, supplies of easy-to-access oil and gas would not keep up with demand. U.S. refineries produced more gasoline this March - at 9.3 million barrels per day - than any previous month on record, according to the American Petroleum Institute. NickF1011
http://blogs.edmunds.com/greencaradvisor/2010/04/us-gasoline-demand-and-production-in-march-set-all-time-record-api-reports.html What does that have to do with this topic? One month does not a trend make. Nor does a slight increase in one month have anything to do with oil running out in 2015.
lfeg
And in other news, there is a chance that every poster on this topic will be struck by lightning by 2012. Can. Chance. Might. Awful big qualifiers. And also remember, one of the tasks of the military is to prepare for the worst possible outcome.

BlackHorse
How do you know it already hasn't? lol, Seriously M, there is enough oil still in the ground to last centuries. It just that you can't really justify consumers paying 3 to 8 dollars a gallon unless you can scare the crap out of them and convince them it's running out.
