7Mary3
One of the many drawbacks to 'Twin-I-Beam' front suspension is that it requires the engine to be mounted high enough to clear the I beams. GM was able to shoehorn the Duramax (albeit without the Allison transmission) into the Savanna and Express full size vans in part because the front suspension was not in the way. RichardJensen
The use of front struts, and unitized construction, allows for the engine to be placed between the front axle not above it as in the E-series and other BOF vehicles. Can't do that on the E350/E450. The E450 has a 5,000lb GAWR on the front axle. Ain't gonna put that much weight on struts.
Joe771476
Why do I see new mini school buses on E-series chassis that sound like diesels? Am I hearing things?
RichardJensen
You can get E-Series with diesels. They are "limited availability"
Pioneer
Why do I see new mini school buses on E-series chassis that sound like diesels? Am I hearing things? Somewhere, there is a warehouse with a dwindling supply of 6.0 diesel engines that Ford stockpiled because they knew the 6.4 and 6.7 wouldn't fit. Name a BoF vehicle with Struts? none. There are too many compromises with the current E350/E450 Archtechture, the solution to these compromises will have to be a Clean sheet. design. you can't use A scaled up transit, you can't use a lightly modified SD frame, too many compromises. I think we are looking at an All new frame, that fits all expected Ford Diesel and gas engines.
RichardJensen
There are too many compromises with the current E350/E450 Archtechture Please. The E350/E450 is not capable of holding a V8 that was launched 34 years after its basic dimensions were set. That isn't a 'compromise', that's a whole different sort of shortcoming. Words mean things. Use them carefully.

RichardJensen
Do understand the definition of insanity? Why are trying to force a 34 year old Architecture to do anything but die. Where did I say that? I have an issue with the way *you* have expressed yourself and the way you have managed to take almost every conceivable position on this question, all while attempting to put me in the wrong. Your operating assumption is that anything I type is incorrect. You never read what I post, and you are altogether too willing to inform the whole board what I think. You did it again just now. You didn't read what I post, and then spouted off as though you knew exactly what I said Edited July 20, 2010 by RichardJensen

The concept that that was then and this is now, is somewhat elusive?
