akirby
Cheap always sells. Drop any vehicle $7K and sales will go up if it's a decent vehicle.
CKNSLS
Well another thing to consider is how many Japanese buyers might have gone over to VW when they couldn't get a Japanese car due to the impact of the Tsunami on Japan? Those same people wouldn't be caught dead in an "inferior" American car I don't believe those "shortages" were ever that severe, I think it was more of a media created possibility. Anybody I know who wanted a new Camry, Corolla, or Honda were able to buy one.

silvrsvt
As for "inferior" American cars in this segment, are there any? Dodge Caliber maybe? The reason I put "inferior" in quotes is the long standing bias that Import buyer often have the belief that US branded cars are POS Edited June 21, 2011 by silvrsvt
papilgee4evaeva
or maybe they thought they were actually buying a Corolla. Except that's the old Jetta. (And the old Corolla, but they look almost the same anyway)
aneekr
Does this new Passat TDI require DEF to meet emission standards? Motorweek reviewed the 2012 Passat in this week's episode (#3041). The program stated, "But unlike the Jetta, the Passat TDI requires urea-injection, and will need a refill every 10,000 miles."
