MountainLion
You probably had close to .5 gallons left, maybe a tad less. Also, i can usually get another .5 to .75 gallons going to the third click (which according to the manual is how you should top off). Add that up and you are at about 15 gallons which equates to a 10% reserve. I'd day that's normal, not conservative. You're totally right. I didn't even consider that. I never top off so I guess I just think "off = full" which obviously it isn't. Pardon me while I eat my crow!
Mbtauber
Hey so I had the recall work done this weekend and the gas tanked replaced. I can't tell you if anything is any different yet a I am working on my first full up with the new tank installed. One thing I can to you is that when they dropped the old tank and inspected it they reported that the Evap line in the tank was out of position and was getting in the way of the float valve/sensor in the tank. To me, that could explain why the DTE would read zero miles to empty yet I could still drive passed that point without running out of gas. I always would fill up with about 14 gallons used and could put in 14 gallons of gas so that part was working right. I will see how things go with the new tank installed. It's designed to have 10% left at E or O miles to empty which is about 1.5 gallons. You should always be able to go 15-30 miles after E, not that you should test it. MountainLion
Wasn't trying to come off harsh, sorry if I did. Was just trying to let you know you don't need to worry about doing the flash/tsb work to replace your fuel tank! No worries - I didn't take it poorly . Just trying to contribute constructively. Loooong time lurker here (12 years or so) that finally joined up. The tank problem sure is frustrating - my 2007 Mustang would click off prematurely (like every 2 seconds) all the time. I'd put the pump in upside down, seemed to help but may have been wishful thinking. Maybe its a restriction in the feed tube? A failure of the anti-siphon? A pair of vise-grips clamped down on the feed tube of my 88 Escort sure made filling up a 30 click journey of failure.
lengend
I still have to get mine fixed, but I noticed sometimes my "low fuel" will trigger at random KM's left on DTE. Last time it went off at 10km left, then 50km, then 30km and once it didn't go off at all and I was at 0km. I dunno what's with it but its kinda pissing me off. I only fill a quarter tank just cause I don't wanna waste my money on a full tank and then it's gone out of the blue.
deadman64
Well I had mine in for service and brought up that I still needed the recall work done and then also the TSB for not being able to fill the tank completely. They apparently tried the flash for the TSB and said it "didn't take" so a new fuel tank is on order and I'll being have that work and the recall done at the same time by the end of this week. I'll report back with the results... PS: I had a Ford Escape with Ecoboost as a rental and it actually is a nice fast little car. The shifts were much smoother than my fusion...do you guys/gals notice your fusion shifting "hard" (not sure how to describe it)? With the escape I almost couldn't feel it shifting. I wasn't sure if that's normal or not...
frankhat
Will have to get mine replaced, i didn't notice it too much until I went about 15 miles after the Low fuel light and and topped up this morning and it put in 12 gallons. The line didn't even touch the full line. lol.
Remus StCloud
I'm still waiting for my replacement parts to arrive at my dealership, but i now have the check engine light on (constantly, not blinking)... Could this be caused by the fuel delivery module? I'm worried about driving it home from work now!
lengend
I got my letter today to make an appointment with my dealership. Finally.
jeff_h
I got my letter today to make an appointment with my dealership. Finally. I got my letter last Friday that parts were now in adequate supply and contact my dealer "without delay" -- which I did, and he called me back today to say that the part that they ordered on 31 July is still shown as back-ordered. Not a big deal for me since I don't have any symptoms and was just asking them to get me on their list for a Friday over the next couple months, so I can wait and who cares. So before you drop the car off for an appt, might want to call the service advisor to ask him/her to verify with the parts section that yes you will be good on day of appt, rather than waste your time. FusionNewbie
Just got word that my parts were received as well. Dealer said they'll need it for 2 days (not sure why) - but they are kind enough to give me a rental car at their expense. They will be replacing both the fuel module and the fuel filler. deadman64
Had the TSB "funky fuel tank" fixed. They flashed the instrument cluster and installed a new tank. I filled up immediately and was able to put in 15 gallons and my fuel gauge wasn't even on yellow yet! Very happy to get full range now. I noticed with the new instrument cluster update: you can't press down while in the INST MPG view (on the left) and get the tachometer anymore, it will only show the fuel gauge. After I got mine back, my whole system seemed to act like it was reset, save for my radio stations and phone pairing. One item I had to correct was this: somewhere in the Settings on that left-hand side of the dash, is an option for the fuel gauge to show fuel only or fuel + tach. Change it there, and the tach should be available again in INST MPG view again.

Just filled up for the first time - 14.6 gallons with 9 miles DTE!!! And I've already driven ~50 miles and my fuel line hasn't come off of Full yet . Hopefully next time I will up the DTE will go up to around ~460.

So you can no longer show the Tac in Inst Fuel mode anymore? Hmmmm, why in the heck did they delete that function? Thats what I keep mine on. Inst with fuel and tac. Guess Ill wait longer to get the "upgrade". That cheeses me off; don't REMOVE functionality on an update. Software 101.
