tonygi
I OWN AN 2016 ESCAPE titanium WHICH I purchased NEW 2 YEARS AGODealer just told me rear brakes were worn and needed to be replaced soon,Car has 16,000 mostly highway miles. Front brakes are fine.Rears are 3 and 4 mm.Complained to Ford, they said brakes are not warrantied.Previously had a Subaru Forester, fronts replaced at 40k, rears were still fine at 80K.At this point, I regret having gone back to Ford.Who replaces rear brakes at 16K miles.Obviously sometimg wrong with the car.My GF has a mercedes with alot of miles, and was considering buying a lincoln.I will tell her based on Ford's response to my issue, FORGET IT!. fordtech1
You probably need a second opinion. I have a 15 with 46k miles original brakes. Sometimes the quick lane techs dont know the true thickness of these pads new and think they are worn more than they are. I would get someone else to check them. My girlfriend had a 2015 Forester and it needed rear brakes at 36K miles....traded it in for a 2018 Escape.... Like fordtech1 said, get another opinion....since I am a mechanic by hobby, I didn't need a second opinion on her Subie....those rear brakes were trash at 36K... fuzzymoomoo
There has been rare cases of the electronic parking not fully releasing and causing the rear brake pads to prematurely wear out on 2013+ Fusions. I had a friend have it happen to them. The Escape has the same system I believe.
fordtech1
IIRC contours had super thin pads new so when they came in for service, lube techs would not know and sell pads at low miles. Im trying to remember brake pad thickness on escapes, since I havent done many.

coupe3w
OP regrets going back to Ford because rear brakes may be worn. Really? Like it's something major. Some people!

A lot of people said the same thing because of the problems with my ford touch.
92merc
It's a set of brakes. Get over it. You're ready to dump a $15k vehicle over a couple of hundred dollars worth of brakes? I would however get a second opinion. I have 46k on my 13 Escape. All original brakes.
icecoffee76
I had to replace my Escape brakes at 25k. Decided to upgrade the OEM disc types and have been very pleased with them.
Zolutar
Alot will depend on your driving. I had a 2011 Jeep Patriot that wore early in the rear, a 2009 AWD Fusion that wore out the rear earlier than expected. My 2017 2.0 AWD Escape SE has 32k km's on it and I am suspicious of early wear on the rear....haven't looked closely yet, but the common denominator? I drive hilly, twisty mountain roads...especially if you are an AWD model, the traction control will wear the rear brakes out early.
