Kev-Mo
Insurance Institute gave the Taurus an "Acceptable' overall rating, not the highest. Of course they are the last word.... Glad this guy was OK, looks like the PI did a great job of protecting the officer.
HotRunrGuy
Glad to hear it. One of our local guys wasn't so fortunate 2 years ago, look how deep the light pole is into the dash. https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/01/20/bloomingdale-police-officer-dies-in-crash/ HRG Edited February 22, 2019 by HotRunrGuy

So the IIHS ratings for Taurus don't necessarily apply to PI Sedan. Thank you to the NOPD officers who put their lives on the line every day doing their best to protect the citizens of that city. The shootout in downtown New Orleans last Sunday was crazy even by New Orleans standards. Edited February 22, 2019 by rperez817

They also are the ones that pushed to make manufactures have roof requirements that are 4x the vehicle weight vs 2.5 from NHTSA. They also made sure that manufactures actually test offset crashes. The officer also had a leg injury which is exactly the type of injury IIHS said would happen in an accident like this, however the PI has some floor modifications so the tests aren't 100% transferable, but the majority of those are at the rear of the vehicle for high speed rear-end impacts.
