Nothing short of an eleventy billion trillion dollar investment in BEVs is good enough lol.

The BEV investment amount isn't the issue with Toyota. It's the fact that as a company, Toyota refuses to make a firm decision to exit the ICE age. Professor Dans said it best when he spoke about a similar situation at VW. Just How Real Is Volkswagen's Conversion To Electric Vehicles? (forbes.com)

In short, what really sets a carmaker apart from the competition is that it no longer makes diesel and petrol engines. As long as Volkswagen and others that claim to have seen the light refuse to commit to going fully electric in the immediate future, it will be the same company that prefers to buy emission credits and to pay emissions fines, and that clearly prioritizes its short-term profits over the long-term common good. If you want to be perceived as serious in your commitments, don’t tell me how many electric vehicles do you plan to manufacture: tell me when will you stop manufacturing the polluting ones.

Any full line mfr that says they’re killing ICE production any time soon is a bankruptcy waiting to happen.

The ones who manage ICE with hevs and PHEVs while simultaneously bringing out new BEVs and securing BEV platforms, battery supplies and capacity will be huge winners.  The ones that try to go 100% BEV soon due to public pressure from environmentalists will find themselves struggling to pay the bills.

And failing to realize or admit that it's the profits from ICE, Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid vehicles that are funding the development of BEV vehicles and the necessary components, plant capacity, etc.
