There is one huge thing to dislike about the Edge and that is the reflections on the windshield from the large dash area in front of the steering wheel. This is a problem with all such vehicles that have long, rakish windshields and upright seating, but in the Edge, these reflections were so pronounced as to become a safety issue. Some kind of non-reflective surface has to be installed on the dash.

It would appear that Ford is aware of the problem. In the test vehicles for this media event, the company provided — without comment — free polarized sunglasses, which cut about 90% of the glare. That was sneaky.

LOL

Very nice review of the Edge...

Always something, aint it?

Always something is why Ford is the incredible shrinking company.

And this too.

Why can they not make a competitive engine?

How hard can it be to copy the competition?

"If you want a pleasing, well-rounded tall station wagon—which is what a crossover SUV actually is—then the Edge makes a good case for itself. The new 3.5-liter V-6 engine makes good power and is reasonably refined, although it lacks the quiet smoothness of the Highlander’s V-6. The vehicle goes well, however, recording a 0-to-60-mph time in the mid-seven-second range despite its porcine 4500-pound weight. The six-speed automatic transmission provides sweet, fast shifts, although the lack of a manual override for swapping ratios is really annoying."

Have you driven a vehicle with a 3.5L or are you just quoting something here?

Ahhh...the ostrich comes to look dumb again!

Guess what the Edge's real direct competitor is?

(drum roll)...the Nissan Murano! It's the only other 2-row CUV in the same class!

And the much ballyhooed V6 in that vehicle is DOWN 20 hp to the Edge!

Therefore...your remark is more proof of everything I already knew about you.

You fail.

I must admit I am relying on the experts that drive every manner of vehicle for a living.

In your case it should be dumbroll!!

How many of those main competitors do they sell in a year?

Clue: It is not very many.

Now you are splitting the market in 2.

So explain how the Edge will be a super sized success.

Trust me I will be right on this.

More F-ing negativity, why dont you wait to drive one, you know the rags SUCK.

More f-ing stupity!!

What is the market for a 5 passenger truck wannabe considering the competition?

Clue--It is limited. I am guessing the Edge will be lucky to sell 100k per year.

I am surprised the 3.5l is not as good as the Toyota motor.

Actually I lied.

They are probably ABB robots. Built in Sweden.

I will purchase my next vehicle the same way Ford buys manufacturing equipment.

The best vehicle for the price. No concern for buy American.

bluecon .. instead of relyiong on a notoriously biased ragh.. read the other 2 reviews .. TTAC which is usually biased, but reationally so - LOVED The engine .. and the tranny ... unless Edmunds confirms the CandD assetrtions, I will take them as an optionion of one reviewer that has preferences elsewhere ...

so far this CandD review is the only D35 review that does not like the D35 .. edmunds liked it in the MKZ and CX9, Michael Karesh liked it in MKZ (well like the smoothness), and now TTAC joins in ...

it seems D35 might be right on par with the Toyota v6.. someone just did not like to admit that ...

Look at their comments - they had nothing negative to say about the interior so they said:

The materials and fit-and-finish are pretty nice,

WTF!!! .... how about more info .. assembly, style, ergonomics?? ... color cmbination? , ANYTHING .. not a FREAKING ONE SENTENCE ABOUT THE WHOLE FREAKING DASH ... whether you like it or not .. I WANT TO KNOW...

I lost a lot of trust in that review because of that sentence.

Ummm, wrong.

Fanuc, formerly GM-Fanuc.

Where do you suppose that the "GM" came from?

http://www.fanucrobotics.com/

They may have facilities in Japan, but they are no more Japanese than making cars here makes Toyota American.

As far as I know all those robots are built in Japan.

GM uses ABB robots in all their assembly plants.

And yes, they are as Japanese as Toyota.

Where did the GM come from? I thought GM bought into the company at one time.

Who is building the new welding and painting equipment at Oakville?

Trusting that you'll be right...wow...I'm sorry, but has anyone-yourself included-ever been that challenged?

Given Ford's ability to debut SUVs (many, MANY more successes than failures), what will still be a huge dealer network even with some dropping, and the vehicle's dynamics...your head is, indeed, buried underground.

Its pricing and timing will make it able to poach from a couple sements at once.

The Model T was a great success but I doubt that will help the Edge.

OK mister auto expert. What are you predicting?

A 300K seller? Tell me now what the future holds for the Edge.

Cut the BS and give me the numbers.

It was my impression that the Robotics arm wa formed in cooperaion with GM.

Regardless, we've been using Kawasaki, GMFanuc robots so long, this is hardly a new development.

Exactly my point. Why should I buy USA/ Canadian when Ford buys everything offshore?

Essex engine is being closed and a new engine plant will be built in Mexico.

And I should blindly support Ford/GM/Chrysler?
