No More Keypad?

I use mine often in extremes of temperature to keep the engine and either heat or A/C running with the key in the ignition. I can lock or unlock the Ranger or the Mariner from the key pad when running a short errand. My Flex and Escape both had Intelligent Access fobs, and I often would leave the fob in the center console and use the keypad.

Yep, we regularly use the keypads on all of vehicles, so imagine my surprise when it was missing from the 2023 Escape we picked up.  This is nothing more than Ford decontenting, and charging more for less.  It is very frustrating to say the least.

  • ice-capades changed the title to No More Keypad?

Need sunglasses out of my wife’s car? Keypad.  It comes in handy. It’s even more important with phone as key. I’ve not used the fob, except for service, since the day I brought my Lightning home (and same for my Mach-E prior).  The keypad gives me confidence that if my phone dies, breaks, or is stolen/lost I can still drive home.

I started and drove my Nautilus with no key and no phone just as a test.  Enter the keypad code then enter the password and you’re off.

I also use it to get stuff out of the vehicle.  Not to mention never being locked out.  Folks that don’t use it don’t know what they’re missing.

This is why it pisses me off that they have been removing them.   I hope they will reconsider this trend as well.

I am ordering a new Bronco, and I told the dealer that the keypad entry was one of the most important features.  He hasn't told me yet that they discontinued that in 2024.  I lock my keys in the car to go to the gym (who wants to carry car keys in their gym shorts), leave the car running with AC to keep it cool for the dogs, among a million other uses.  Now, I will have to find a new secure way for every application.  This was a horrible decision.

This is a game changer for me.  I stayed with ford mainly because of the keypad, I am going to another company.  The Edge went way up in price and I lost so many perks, this really sucks!

Besides, Ford doesn't make any cars to buy.  Where are the cars??  Where is an affordable small car for my kid going to college?  Oh Yeah!  At Kia!

Thanks for letting us know…..

This is an example why decontenting and lack of affordable vehicles is a problem for Ford.  This person claimed to be a previous Ford customer, which I have no reason to dispute, who now is likely not, because they no longer find the value in the available vehicles to purchase, and they don’t have any low cost options.  That entry level car may have led to additional future Ford customer as well.  How many are out there like this person?

Of course it costs them some sales and customers but the question we can’t answer is how it affects the bottom line.  Maverick, Bronco Sport and Bronco bring in a lot of new Ford buyers with a lot more profit than Focus.

You can purchase one through Ford Accessories. It is all Black though and cost $120.  I have seen that other Bronco owners are putting them behind the fuel door.

You can buy the Securicode pad through Ford Parts, but the initial setup can only be performed by a Ford dealer. After that, you can program your own code, but the original is always there.  So it would be prudent to order the keypad from the dealer, who will also be programing it. Some dealers may balk at programming one they didn't sell.

I realize it is not as good as factory, but it is still available if you want it bad enough...

I have the factory color matched on my Bronco, and they are not hardwired like the old ones. Once the battery goes out on it, I will have to remove it an purchase one through Ford Accessories.:banghead:

Just to clarify, a keypad purchased from Ford Parts will be shipped "empty." A factory authorized dealer is the only one who can do the initial programming on it; some sort of special coding that dealers have. After the dealer has initiated it with a permanent 5 digit code, you can add your own personal code if you wish, but the initial code remains permanently set. If you buy a keypad through Ford Parts, eBay etc and have it shipped to your home, all you will have is a $200 door ornament until a dealer initializes it; some of whom may balk at not getting the keypad sale and charge (gouge) you to fire it up.
