Oil cooler issue sidelining new Indiana State Police Dodge Durango vehicles

My BIL was a Police Officer for a long time but recently quit the force to go work in IT.  He said the switch from Crown Vic to Chargers was difficult because the Charger was so unreliable.  His broke down on him and he was switched to a temporary one till his was ready and I think it was out for over a month.  He said it was common for the Chargers to be broken down.  Not surprised to see the Durango have issues too.

Yea, none of the newer police vehicles from Mopar, Ford, and GM have the reliability of Crown Vic PI. ISP encountered issues with Charger Pursuit when they made the transition from Crown Vic PI. Martinsville, IN PD had lots of major problems with Explorer PI.

The explorers, at least the 5th gens, are pretty bulletproof. But the dodge stuff seems to be struggling.

I've known several departments which experienced issues with crown vics. Pretty bulletproof doesn't mean guaranteed to never have issues.

It's relative. Crown Vic PI had issues from time to time, but they were a lot less frequent and didn't need as much downtime to fix compared to Explorer PI and Durango Pursuit.

But they where in service for a very long time without major changes. If your fixing the same thing for 20 years or so, you know the ins and out of them.

And the mfr has fixed most of the problems
