If these doors do appear on this car.... there's no way Ford calls them suicide doors. The PC babies in this country would go crazy calling Ford insensitive for using that word, etc.

Id take a focus hatch.... give it the Subaru Crosstrek treatment, and be done with it. Awd and charge about 23-27k for it. Done. Profit with little engineering. But, admittedly there is some Escape overlap that might not be good towards the bottom line?

I had a 2015 Escape FWD with 2.5. I did mostly highway driving and got nearly 30 mpg consistently. A rocket? No. But it just felt good to drive. And oh yeah.....with that engine, it didnt come with the &$@:$ start/stop system.

On this topic, I dont think the oil companies are going to just sit back and watch their world get eaten alive by EVs. Wont they attemp to keep people in ICE cars by keeping the cost of fuel low? Bad for their profits, but good for the customers?

I havent seen the short block yet. There are a few of the new engines at the plant, but they are complete builds. Sorry thats about all I know.

The 2.3 going in will be assembled at Cleveland Engine Plant. It wont be a direct lift from the current line of 2.3 ecoboost engines. Definitely a new, upgraded engine.But, from the same family of the current 2.3s. Lots of work and upgrades being done to the assembly line. With more to be done this summer. I would assume, Ford wouldnt do all that work and spend all that money to produce an engine that make the same numbers as its current line up.

It won't be the 2.0 ecoboost

There will more than one engine choice for those vehicles. Cleveland will be supplying at least one of them.

Auto start/stop standard on the ecoboost engines. I'm still not sold on that technology. It's nerve racking when you pull up to a light and your vehicle stalls out.

IMO........engineering brain drain. Remember the salaried buyout a few years ago? Lots of experience left the company. The new, younger replacements are sharp people. But I think they are making mistakes that their predecessors already figured out long ago. 30 years in manufacturing is nearly impossible to replace, no matter how impressive the degree is.

They throw that out there because when they agree not to implement the 3rd tier if we keep the second tier, the UAW will tell us that they achieved a victory.

Odd this is news. They've been installing the new line to run these engines for the past year and we've been in launch mode since the fall. Supposed to be up to full speed by the end of spring.

Yeah thanks for eliminating pensions for ALL future employees forever. Slipped that one in didncha'? Everyone assumed that once the tier 2 transitioned to full pay, they would enjoy all the benefits the usual "legacy" employees do. Oh no wait, now there is a third class of employee with full pay but no pension? I dont remember reading about that in the contract highlights. Would the last contract have passed if the highlights headline read " ALL FUTURE NEW HIRES WILL NEVER BE OFFERED A PENSION.
