  1. If the new 7X V8 is based on the Boss V8 I think they'll need to raise the deck height, making the block bigger. The Boss block is comparable to the old FE block. The bore spacing is 4.530" to 4.630". The deck height is 9.41" (See Note) to 10.170". The old FE maxed out at 428 CID (stock) and a Boss prototype was punched out to 427 CID (7.0L). I doubt the Boss 7.0L would have made a very good super duty truck. engine. Note: It's tough getting official dimensions for the Boss V8 block. I got the 9.41" deck height figure from a forum poster.
  2. No. I meant SN-95. I'm well aware that the same 'cheapening' occurred with S197. Prior to the release, there were magazine rumours that SN-95 would be riding on a shortened MN12 (Thunderbird) chassis, which was pretty exciting as that meant IRS. I also read somewhere, late one night in that past five years in one on the many Mustang forums, that a better solid rear axle setup with a panhard bar was being looked at.
  3. SN-95 suffered from the continued use of the Quad Link rear suspension. Ford should have modified the chassis for a 3-Link w/ panhard bar like S197. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Ford Engineers were looking at a better rear suspension setup for SN-95 but the accountants stepped in.
  4. I'm surprised they're using the 5.2L with a supercharger. It better have excellent head gaskets.
  5. Looks like Ford poached some Mazda designers.
  6. Here's how I think the 4.8L V8 rumour was started. If you switch to the PTWA liners the aluminum block casting will need reduced bores compared to the cast iron liners to retain the same final displacement. So somebody saw a drawing for the new block casting with the reduced bores, did some math, and deduced a 4.8L Coyote was in the works.
  7. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2017/07/24/fastest-mustang-GT.html 460 hp, 420 ft.lbs The new 10 speed auto puts the GT into sub 4 second 0-60 times with the drag mode. Impressive, but I'd still get the manual.
  8. I agree. The only thing I don't like about the Coyote Mark VII is the wheels. I think the Mark VII LSC wheels, the painted spoke/bright dog-dish design looked the best on these cars. Similar aftermarket wheels would have put this Coyote Mark over the top for me.
  9. From what I've read, forty nine hundred and fifty one cubic centimeters of eight cylinder motor is stirring their loins just fine.
  10. I'm not surprised to see a supercharged Coyote over a turbocharged unit. Packaging that setup is so much simpler. I am surprised about the pushrod valve train because OHC has been Ford's "thing". If this mystery engine is a new design FoMoCo sure pissed away a lot of money on the 'Boss'. I've got nothing against pushrod motors. The LS and LT1, and Hemi are great engines. If the new Ford V8 does go with a pushrod valvetrain hopefully the heads have Cleveland style canted valves and combustion chamber, not a wedge.
  11. I think there was a dealer option for a Paxton blower. Edit: Silvrstv with the link and the win.
  12. Once the Gordie Howe Bridge is built it won't take long at all for plant to plant delivery.
  13. Right around the same time Coyote was developed Ford invested in new tooling for the 6.2L Boss. According to this article, Ford had considered the 6.2L for the Mustang. I wonder if they ever considered dropping the modular V8 altogether and focus on the new engines based on 6.2L instead. Develop aluminum blocks, 4 valve heads, various displacements, etc. for the Boss instead of putting the funds into Coyote.
  14. Any Ford engine running down a line with the modular tooling is a modular motor. The 4.6, 5.0, 5.2, 5.4, 5.8 V8s, & 6.8 V10 are all modular motors. The name was always about the tooling.
  15. Wow, RS versions of Escape, Edge, etc. Perfect for the "me too" crowd.
  16. I saw an MKZ and Continental sitting side by side at the local dealership lot this afternoon. Based on exterior dimensions they are virtually the same size. I can see why the Zed may be dead.
  17. I have no problem with the Thunderbird name attached to LiMoCo product either. And built on the S550 platform.
  18. I saw the Continental in person for the first time this past weekend at the local dealership lot. I have to say that the car is gorgeous... inside and out. It's much better in the flesh than in media.
  19. In my opinion AWD is a waste of money on any Fusion but the Sport. The Sport has way too much power for a FWD drivetrain so I can see why it is only offered in AWD. On the other Fusions though, AWD costs more on purchase price and then continue to cost more on fuel costs. Go FWD and get a winter tire package.
  20. That article pretty much describes how Ford designed the Modular V8 back in the late '80's. The 4.6L V8 had 575 cc cylinders with undersquare bore/stroke ratio, tall deck height, narrow bore centers and short block length.
