    Wanna know what else wasn't built well in the 70s? The entire damned car. We could all rhyme off 100s of components that failed after 60k. These new Ford turbos have hundreds of millions of real life miles in field. They've worked out the issues. No need to fret.

    And earlier than that contractors and farmers made due with 100hp straight sixes with 3 on the tree. These days what I see are 350hp pickups racing with their boat trailer at 85mph. So perhaps it's just about meath ears that want Ferrari speeds with a 10,000# trailer and 2000# in the bed.

    The difference WHEN the issue is corrected. Bitching because they are fixing the problem before the product is sold is a little unfair. They are fixing it which is the most important thing. No manufacturer is without fault in screwing up the engineering at one time or another.

    A global micro pickup that may sell a few thousand units in NA. Realistically, you will see this in the cramped streets of Buenos Aires, Budapest, Nairobi etc. It will more than likely be sold under both Ford and VW names for that reason.

    It's a luxury status symbol. Just like Tesla. The biggest victim IMO will be the forthcoming Mercedes Benz pickup.

    Not sure why you would make an off-roader the "high end" vehicle. A Maverick and Escape would occupy the C -CUV space the same way Raptor and Limited/Titanium/Lariat would with F150s. One has leather, toys and a high price. The other has big tires, skid plates and a high price.

    So 10hp on a 200 horse engine, 15hp.on a 300 horse engine. Not peanuts.

    Some anti-knock sensors retard spark timing. Some just add more fuel. That and with the advancement in computers, higher octane is managed by the engine. You will find many domestic engines actually run better on the higher octane. Lower octance being recommended for cheap owners. On ethanol, no conversation is complete without mentioning moisture.

    Yes, Ford is in trouble and they been in trouble since at least the Trotman era. For 3 decades they've been one recession away from bankruptcy. But they always seem to pull out a winner that saves them.
