  1. I'd bet the wheel spacing on the conti will look very closely like that on the Taurus. Thats the kind of change they make when they do concepts. I predict lots of complaining how the proportions on the production Continental don't match the concept.
  2. Ford Motor Co. on Friday will announce a $2.5 billion investment in Mexico, a source confirmed to The Detroit News. Reuters, citing industry sources, first reported the investment, which it said would include money for a transmission plant, and an expansion of Ford's plant in the northern Chihuahua state, where it will build two new diesel engines.
  3. I dont get why all the argument about weight? It seems everyone here wants heavier cars. Lighter is better. Does it sell more because its lighter? Its not the only factor but is plays a roll. If I remenber correctly Mullaly's goal was to build the safest , most reliable and most fuel efficient cars. Being lighter is a key aspect of that goal. It seems like a lot of arguing for arguments sake going on here lately.
  4. Yes and no. How about a fusion size car that weight 3 tons and gets 10 mpg but its quiet with ground hugging weight. That would sell like hots cake too..
  5. Has sedan power and fuel economy increased over the last twenty years? You can't have it both ways. If light weight help trucks it helps cars too. Is light weight the over riding factor in sales? Probably not, but obviously Ford thinks it important enough to dedicate resources to it.
  6. Richard, LOL Best-in-class towing and payload* Improved power-to-weight ratio across the entire 4-engine lineup for greater performance Better fuel efficiency by up to 20 percent over the previous year's F-150 All of these can be said about a sedan too. If its good for the F-150 its good for the Fusion too, can't have it both ways. Plus does that help sell more Trucks ?
  7. Cadillac: In March, Cadillac’s average transaction prices (ATPs) approached $54,000, near the top of the brand’s competitive set, according to J.D. Power PIN estimates. ATPs are up more than $9,000 per unit from a year ago. This is how you spin selling only Escalades
  8. It called dumping. You can get an equivalent Camry for $2000 less than a Fusion. That starts to erode you business model. Its right out of the Japanese 90's playbook.
  9. "Fusion’s average transaction price was $26,586 in February, $2,772 more than Camry" I am not sure this is a plus. Toyota could still be making more profit on Camry than Ford is making on the Fusion.
  10. Kia's turbocharged three-cylinder makes 118 horsepower http://www.autoblog.com/2015/02/23/kia-one-liter-engine-europe/
  11. antarctic ice pack is going against the predictions and increasing in size. Scientists baffled.
  12. well from wikipedia US pilot total sales 2013 - 126,678 . not that wikipedia is always right but 500k pilot sales seems too good to be true.
  13. The only ones who can hear those are dogs and audio salesmen.
  14. Maybe, maybe not. I guess my point was more along line of "there are some people here that don't care about the car business and only about cars" . That is why these arguments keep popping up. It's like an impedance mismatch. They will never care that producing millions of SUV and ignoring car lines caused Ford to lose customers and market share in the long term. They only care that they had a Fox body that ran 10s. I enjoy both views. Like I said its one of the reasons the forums are interesting. My earlier comment was not directed at you, Richard. Your post just seemed to highlight the difference in members interests.
  15. This is one of the interesting things about this forum. I bet most people did not come here to talk about business models and market share. I know I came here looking for information about the 2005 mustang. I was a car fan, inherited it from my brother and uncle. We used to go around every September and look at all the new model introductions at the local dealerships. Back when I was a kid I could tell every year ,make and model of car by their head or tail lights at night. Sometimes I think we get all caught up the business of the manufactures and forget to just enjoy the cars. A lot of people here come from different view points and sometime those views don't mesh with other folks here and we get a lot of crazy arguments over silly things. T
  16. My brother had a 72 exactly like this one. Awesome car.
  17. I had a Freestyle with the CVT. I had no problems with it and the lack of shifting did not bother me. It was a good car and I would have no problem getting another with a CVT. It was kind fun to watch the relationship between rpm and mph too.
  18. The only ones who can hear the high notes are audio salesmen and dogs.
  19. Just like Ford and GM can. That's why they had to spend millions of dollars to buy those franchises out.
