  1. Yeah. Probably because that water pump is seeping. You used premium gold I hope?
  2. Make sure your coolant is topped off. If it is you will need a thermostat. If your car is a 4 cylinder have the mechanic check to make sure your water pump isn't leaking out of the weep hole. If it is have them replace the pump and t-stat together.
  3. +1 .. I was thinking the same thing but figured I'd get flamed for saying it.
  4. You are correct. If another dealer has one (doubtful) the parts department would be able to get one from them in a few days. I believe the t.c. parts problem might be related to the repeat right axle seal leak though and Ford might be putting some pressure on the supplier to re-engineer the problem away, hence the wait. I have an F550 right now with rear fuel tank delamination. The interior coating of the tank is peeling and the peels are being sent throughout the fuel system taking out injectors. This is a known problem due to customers filling up with fuel that has a high bio content (higher than B5) which the tank wasn't engineered for. The replacement tank won't be available until Aug. 30th! Luckily, the customer's truck is also equipped with a midship tank that he can use in the meantime. A note in the parts locater says it is due to an engineering issue and the supplier is working on it. I would assume the delam is what is being taken care of since, at least in the state of Illinois, you cannot find anything lower than B11 due to a tax break the filling stations recieve. I recommend he just wait it out. The part might be more robust in the long run. Or it might just be a supplier problem like SHO mentioned.
  5. Well, really, how are we supposed to help him with a back-ordered part? It will probably behoove him to wait for it because a back-order may indicate an engineering update. There is a chance in hell a dealer in this country may have one sitting on their shelf, but wouldn't you just want to wait if they were doing a little re-engineering? Everyone on the Edge site is going to say the same thing the Ford rep did.... "sorry."
  6. Drove a 6.2 Raptor Supercab yesterday (wrench light was on, hope that isn't going to be common). Ran great, sounds great and appointed very nicely. You'd be surprised how much room is actually in the back seat of the supercab. Two adults were very comfortable back there. Sign me up for a Supercrew anyway, they just look cooler.
  7. According to Frontline, Ford's dealer magazine, Ford's preliminary data is as follows: 29/38 = 5-speed manual 30/38 = 6-speed auto 30/40 = available SFE package The issue of Frontline is the most current one, April/May 2010. Of course this all has a note by it that says pending EPA certification, but I don't know why they would give the dealers these numbers unless they were fairly certain, especially this close to launch. They also compare these numbers to Versa, Yaris, and Fit and Fiesta wins out (significantly: Versa auto = 26/33). If the EPA gives more than 1 mpg better in any of these configs I would be surprised.
  8. Fords are the same way. Ever since '09 anyway. '08's too if they've been reflashed. Theres too much of a risk for fire if its allowed to regen stationary. What if your parked in a tall prairie grass? That exhaust gets over 1022 degrees! I've noticed when its colder outside the truck does a lot more "active regens" where they run terrible, blow smoke and whatnot, have to be driven 20 miles to finish... When its warmer they go into passive regen and the driver doesn't notice it at all and isn't even alerted by the message center that its doing it.
  9. They're both a little pretentious (though I've really been lusting after a GT lately) but the bimmer exponentially moreso. At least that's what I think every time I see one. A family down the culdesac owns one, and I imagine to them its a symbol of status, not performance. I'll take the Mustang (surprise surprise). Just did the build & price. Mine would cost $36.7k: GT premium, premier trim, manual, brembos, 3.73's, comfort package. (I'm sorry, 2k for a fixed glass roof with a MANUAL shade is ridiculous!) Now, can I convince wifey that its practical? I'm sure I'll wuss out and get the Focus.
  10. The mustang beat it in almost every measurable way. The genesis was what, .2 fast in the figure eight with equal g's? The worst part: you could buy a GT for the "as tested" genesis price! I don't get it.
  11. T-bird SC's are junk. What you want is a turbo coupe.
  12. The motorcraft def goes for about 10 bucks a gallon. You can get def at napa for around 6 bucks a gallon. Its called "blue def" there. I think the tank holds about 5 gallons but like sportscraft said, it should last an entire oil change. The message center will let you know when its getting low. At first it warns you when there are 800 miles worth left. After it has only 300 miles of def left it starts limiting top speed to 55 mph. It will give you several more messages, start de-rating the engine until all it will do is idle. Aint the feds a bitch.
  13. Labor seems pretty high. Especially since you don't really have to drop the fuel tank. This price doesn't include anything else like oil change, tune up, injector flush or something like that does it? I wouldn't doubt the diagnosis.
  14. If the ranger / lil' truck ever comes back I betcha it'll be unibody. Probably 4 door / 4 cyl auto only. No more multiple bodies. The only powertrain option would probably be eco. Escape size. Might have a good future in a fleet environment.
  15. I am also anxiously waiting. If MT got 12.8, I'm thinking Smith can get down to 12.3, or 12.5 like you said.
  16. Only .1 better et and .1 better mph? Man.... I was hoping for a lot bigger gap. I just don't understand how .2 quicker to 60 equals only .1 better in a lighter car.
  17. It looks good. Read my comments in this topic. http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/38625-2011-super-duty-starts-at-28020/
  18. I guess Galseburg to Chicago was more like 150 miles. He said today they were going 80 the whole way and still got 18 mpg. An interesting side note. He talked today about one of Fords durability test. Basically they use dyno engines and put them through there paces for x number of hours. 750 hours is the goal normally. What they do to the engine for that 750 hours equals about 250k miles. The 6.4 fails at 780 hours of testing, or thereabouts. The 6.7 exceeds 1600 hours of testing regularly before a failure. There also was a hot/cold shocking tests. They get the engine as hot as it would normally run in severe duty situations then shove -40 degree fluid into the cooling system and beat them again till they're nice and hot. They do this repeatedly. None of the test engines had an egr cooler failure or head gasket failure. The instructer was unsure wether the 6.0 or 6.4 had these failures during testing.
  19. I don't know what that is but it doesn't sound like any four cylinder I've ever heard. Whatsup with the high vertical taillights? Wasn't that the previous body style RS? This is probably a Euro 2011 model and its a continuation of the current RS. Europe isn't getting the new Focus till the 2012 model year according to Ford.
  20. I just finished my second day of the 6.7 diesel engine performance and repair class. All I can say is that I'm very impressed. The instructer keeps saying FoE engineers did most of the engineering, but I though it was Peugeot? It looks like they have thought of everything! The engine seems fairly simple to repair (who knows if it will even need regular repairs yet). It was said that owners will see a 18% improvement in fuel economy over the 6.4. The instructer calculated fe on a drive from Galesburg IL to Chicago (about 100 miles) to be about 18! Unloaded of course. Egr valve is on the hot side (not after the egr cooler) and this reduces valve coking considerably. Egr is used a lot less due to the def system and the ability of the pcm to actually read NoX levels with a NoX sensor and module. Engine noise is a little less than the 6.4 which I thought was already fairly quiet. They've thought of all sorts of ways to keep the def from freezing and are giving the driver lots of warnings via the message center if the def gets too low. The whole engine is kinda geared towards fuel economy. Even how they regulate fuel psi so the pump doesn't work as hard as it did in the 6.4. I don't know if this has been posted yet but the engine meets emmissions regulations that are due in 2015 which will last until 2019! Can GM say that with their freshly updated d-max? You mean I won't need to familiarize myself with a new engine in three years! Yay! The exhaust aftertreatment assembly is just a monster! It stretches from the trans bellhousing all the way to the rear axle on a supercap shortbed. The piece is said to cost about $5k to replace. OUCH! The 6.4 achilles heal was its fe and he's saying the reason for that is the dpf cleaning the engine goes through. It dumps a lot of fuel on the exhaust stroke when it regenerates the dpf (every 100-300 miles). The 6.7 will regen the dpf 17X less than the 6.4. So, Dodge doesn't use a def system yet. What's its fe going to be compared to the SD?
  21. If you read the actual TSB and not what the journalist wrote it says the driver might experience engine surging between 38 and 42 mph under light acceleration. Nowhere does it say an "acceleration event." I just think that this document being called "evidence" is a real stretch. I'm not saying software isn't the issue. In fact, I find it unbelievable that Toyota didn't include a reflash in the current recall. At the very minimum put certain safety measures into the software to prevent even a floor mat entrapment from causing an accident. Very easy for a software engineer to do. Throttle input vs. brake pressure input, or rate of vehicle speed increase vs. brake switch even. I think todays automotive ecu's are smart enough to know if the acceleration was unintended. BTW, I thought I was taught in 11th grade American history that it was an insult. Muckraking and yellow journalism were hand in hand. Looking at wiki, I guess I should have said yellow journalism.
  22. So far, so good. I'm really digging it! Very muscular looking front end. I wonder though if they'll cheap out on the interior materials. How they've been rolling lately I kinda doubt it.
