Thanks Kev-Mo, this is great stuff! Catastrophic man-made global warming might be the biggest farce in human history. But that aside, GM is now dictating the future to us -- What's good for General Motors is good for the country (and now the world, right?) So that ship will sail and gain momentum very quickly now with Biden in charge ... but the irony of this governments-mandated shift to EVs and zero carbon is that (I predict) it will have zero impact on future climate/weather (not enough to make a difference anyways).

Agree and also a good way to juice the stock price the day after Forbes said GM was overvalued.

Does anybody really care what GM says? They're just arrogant A-holes pulling a publicity stunt. And talk about flip-flopping. They opposed California .... but once Biden was elected, here they are, the first to the trough to get in Biden's good graces for government money. Sound familiar?

I think it's a nice improvement to the front end. I have rented them a couple times on business trips and couldn't wait to get out of it. Superb chassis and drivetrain, terrible package.... which is why it has not sold well.

This looks sensational. Lincoln nailed it,finally! This Aviator looks much more distinguished and original than the Cadillac, gaudy, all look-alike, "better than the Germans'" offerings!

Like most of you I don't care for the front end (looks cartoonish and overwrought, kind of like the 2016 Camaro), but I think Chevy (and GMC) will be very successful with this truck. The GM loyalists will lap it up, and I think it's aggressive and sleek enough to win over some Jap truck buyers who wouldn't normally buy a GM truck. It's certainly the most aggressive truck design they've put out, maybe ever. That said, I don't think the F150's leadership will be too seriously challenged. 2018 will be a battle with Ram in 1Q; GM 3Q.

Haha, I don't post much, but I've been reading you guys for years! You guys just need to ignore RPEREZ87. He's clearly a Government Motors fanboy troll trying to get a rise out of you guys.... and he has been very successful in that regard. Just my .02. As for the topic, I applaud Ford's solid month. Ford is playing to its strengths in Trucks and CVs and doing as well as it can in areas where it is less competitive. I think the future is bright, with all new full size SUVs and the Ranger/Bronco coming, which will improve profitability; and I believe the new leadership will improve Ford's operational performance immediately. Taking $60 Billion in government money and $70 Billion in debt forgiveness gives GM the performance edge at present, but this will change quickly (assuming Ford's new management doesn't screw up) when the next real recession hits as GM still has too many brands, overhead, and hubris!!

I have to agree with Kev-Mo on this. I don’t know enough about economics and international trade to argue the pros or cons of Trump’s views on trade either way, but I agree that we have no industrial policy in this country, and American consumers are probably the most self-centered, “me first” people in the world, with no cohesive sense of what’s in our national best interests. I lived in Germany for several years. The German sense of community and what’s best for their community country, culture and way of life are profound. Sure, call that socialism and inconsistent with American values, but it does help explain that deep pride that Germans have in their domestic industries that we simply lack in this country. I imagine Japan and S. Korea are similar in this sense. But, I don’t see this changing at all – Americans will continue to buy what they want, whenever they want, and sell out the country, damn the “costs” to the world’s export economies. Trump sees this and doesn’t like it either, but there’s nothing he can do about the American consumer’s mindset.

Looks like a money grab to me, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were in fact cheating. GM has no integrity, e.g., ignition switch cover up and no accountability for any malfeasance whatsoever associated with the "Old GM" etc. etc. etc.

I will agree with Perez on one thing: GM is making better cars and trucks, more frequently and consistently and with much better quality now. But I attribute that pretty much entirely to the $60B in government handouts and $70B in debt forgiveness they received and not to better management..... Otherwise, culturally and structurally, they are pretty much the same company. We'll find out what the real "new GM" is made of when gas climbs back to $4-5 a gallon and nobody wants their Suburbans, Tahoes and Escalades anymore.

I am no fan of Government Motors, but this is a very smart move, in my opinion. There is no need for engineering centers (and the associated costs of parallel engineering) all over the world. Ford should learn from this........ BUT, will GM buy FCAU now? That would be a very dumb move and would be the first step toward GM's next bankruptcy. I don't think Barra wants anything to do with that albatross, however.

GM reminds me of the old Soviet Union: technically capable but operationally and structurally deficient; full of braggadocio but without any sound strategic or business sense. ... To defeat them you just force them to spend themselves into bankruptcy!

I think the new Expy looks great and will be very successful. No doubt the GM triplets are the benchmark, but Expy will be lighter, more fuel efficient and better dynamically with IRS and better P/T options. At a minimum, it offers a very compelling alternative to the triplets .. something GM hasn't had to face in more than a decade in this segment.

No doubt! GM was given a new debt-free company with all of its resources and capital and $60B cash in "start up money", not to mention sweetheart tax deals. Not hard to see why they are out-performing Ford now..... However, what comes around goes around - GM is still not structured for long-term financial sustainability in my opinion.

Go Ram, and take out Silverado! Of course, the C&I Marketing (spin) machine at GM will really pour on the incentives and the lowbrow gutter tactics now to make sure that doesn't happen ..... Meanwhile, F-Series continues to hum.

Go Lincoln! It must really grate those blustering blowhards at GM that the "inferior" Lincoln lineup is closing in on Caddy sales with probably 1/5 (or less?) the investment! "Oh, pour holy water on Lincoln; it's over, .... and we're gonna out-German the Germans, blah blah blah blah blah blah".

I saw the 2018 at NAIAS on Saturday. The changes are subtle, but it does look pretty good in person, and discerning customers will clearly see the differences.... I wish the changes were a little more aggressive, but the car has sold well so I get it. (The aftermarket will take care of that!) The front end is more “tapered” and less bulky than the ’15-17 (It’s kinda hard to explain without seeing in the flesh). We'll have to see what the road tests tell us about the chassis & powertrain upgrades and whether it is a better competitor to the Camaro. By the way, nobody, with the exception of a few mullet heads, was looking at the Camaros at NAIAS, at least when I was there......

I saw it in the flesh at NAIAS last weekend and wasn't very impressed with the exterior. (Equinox is nicer visually). It will sell very well though; the Government Motors Marketing (i.e, spin) and Financing machine will assure that. I thought the Ford display was well done, and even with arguably one of the the "oldest" lineups in show, was probably the busiest. I couldn't get anywhere near some of the Shelbys on display and the 2018 Mustang display was very crowded. The Lincoln display was also well done and with a lot of traffic as well.

Thanks for sharing, fordtech1. I love the guy's line at the end where he says, ".... and we gave GM this much money to put out this kind of garbage marketing", or something like that. This commercial was nothing more than a desperate (and deceptive) cheap shot that may be actually hurting GM’s truck sales more than helping. And I’m happy that Ford chose not to get down in the gutter with these classless clowns at Government Motors.

Good to see Ford bounce back a bit in November. GREAT month for F-Series, which is really gaining some traction now. These trucks really sell themselves well...As an aside, I STILL see that ridiculous Chevy versus Ford truck bed commercial literally about every 30 seconds - it even pops up at the top of this website! Can't believe those losers are still running that commercial - I think maybe that stupid, dork narrator may be turning people off at this point .. If I was in the market for a new truck, just the sight of that guy would make me run to Chevy's competition. Also looks like Camaro's incentives ran out of steam, not to mention the fact that the car is ridiculous looking, and even more ridiculous to drive (in terms of package - the drivetrain is great). Fusion is holding it's own in the face of some really good competition..... Decent sales for Lincoln, too. Lincoln is probably, what, 1/3 of Cadillac sales, but considering that Ford's investment in Lincoln is probably less than 15-20% of GM's taxpayer-funded investment in Cadillac, I'd say that's a decent return that will only improve as the Lincoln portfolio improves.

Yes, and I have configured one (actually about a dozen) and want one .... BADLY!!!! That truck just looks amazingly badass! I have been gradually turning my 2015 F-150 into a Raptor (exhaust, suspension, all-terrains, wheels, etc.) but I'm not about to attempt the unique hood and body panels.

The Focus is a great car, especially dynamically....I think the Cruze is doing so well because (1) it is very competitive and well-regarded in the segment (2) GM is offering great deals on it; and (3) it's by far the most strongly marketed compact in the business. I see a Cruze commercial every single commercial break during sporting events with that dork leading the "real people, not actors" focus group" or whatever they are... When was the last time you saw a Focus ad? ... It seems like Ford has basically given up on it....

OK, I thought Ford had a brief market share lead in that segment in the late 90s, but you've got the numbers to show otherwise. Nevertheless Ford took a LOT of share from GM during that time....And compare that to the paltry 41k Ford sold in 2015......

Agree with Richard and AKirby that Ford is taking the rationale and smart approach here versus GM, but I think Perez has a point about the profit opportunities lost when Ford ceded the large SUV market to GM. Ford was the market leader here in the late 90s/early 2000s but had to pull back investment when oil hit $150/barrel and the Great Recession hit. Of course, GM continued to invest in large SUVs when they got their $60 Billion check and debt write-off from the Feds … and they are now reaping the very lucrative rewards. At present looks like Ford screwed up here, but, then again, Ford had other obligations that GM did not, e.g., investing in other company-saving products, paying down debt and paying corporate taxes with their OWN money. I’ll give GM some credit – they make good products with other people’s money.
