whereswaldo
Whats wrong with the Expedition??? How about the Edge, F150, Mustang, Focus, Escape....and more. Some good (few) choices there. But come on. Expy ?? They have been dropping since '99. Oops an uptick in '03. And this year, though up will have to finish strong to stay that way. Ford needs to find out where the 1 to 1 1/2 million former owners were from up to 8 yrs ago and find out why they are not still buyers of Ford products. Its not about what Alan wants , its what the consumer wants.

Its a great product, top of its class, and it really can't be faulted.

Yes some is market driven but when so much product is left on the vine so long, the fruit just isnt any good any longer.
focus05
I remember reading somewhere that Ford had to keep most of the E-series the same so that conversion outfitters wouldn't have to retool everything. Unfortunately (and fortunately) there is a billion dollar market around the E-series totally focused on transforming it into what specific users need (ambulance, bus, camper, other). My understanding is that there is a brand new E-series chassis set to debut in early 2009 as a 2010 model that will hold the 6.4 and Ford's new smaller 4.4. If I'm completely off on that, let me know, but that's what I thought I had heard.
focus05
How did this thread degrade into the E-series and discussions about Ford's supposed mess ups. We've know for a while that the 2008 MCE is just an MCE before something much better comes out. Like Mulally said in his comments: Ford is where it is. Rush jobs will only hurt quality and further scare off buyers. There are a lot of problems with Ford - quality perception being the biggest in my mind. It sucks that the 2010 Taurus isn't out today. However, my guess is that it will still be competitive when it launches in 24 months.

old_fairmont_wagon
Speaking of the E-series, since that seems to be at least half of this thread now, I was given to understand that the 6.0L PSD was derated in the E-series platform due to fitment and cooling issues (intercooler size was restricted and placement wasn't ideal and total airflow through the grill opening wasn't going to be sufficient for reliable operation. Since they have gone to the more massive air openings of the Superduty nose, were these issues rectified and is the 6.0L PSD still derated in the e-series? Or, is it able to operate at its full rating now?

Your right. But why they need the interior from the 1992 e-series is beyond me. And the headlight switch is right out of the 70s and 80s. I think my grandparents '81 VW Rabbit diesel, '84 Jeep, and '90 Jeep all had that same, pull out, headlight switch.

Blue II
Weeaboo/10. Didn't Blue II say that the XF design was actually for the RWD Taurus? But Jaguar the-still-breathing-piece-of-shit-on-earth used it for their lame-duck-ripoff XF? ^5 Ford for stealing a winner design DNA. 630land
"build something American in style and features that Americans want to own, and quit shoving some badge-engineered crap from Europe or Japan down our throats because Ford can save a few bucks by offering it, rather than building a proper American sedan." What is a proper American sedan? Toyota sells 300K+ Camrys, while the Chrysler 300, which is an M-B design sells maybe 100K but is downward trend?? The 'blue blooded' Panthers made in Canada are dying off with the WW2 vets. [sorry but true] Most US buyers have no memories of the glory days of cheap gas and 10 MPG big RWD cars. So what a proper sedan?, is really up to the buyers, not 'bring back the good ol' days' fans.

LincolnV
They are a better company with more exciting products. Can you blame me? I still think at one point GM is going to have to cut another division. They have too many models on the market right now.

I think my grandparents '81 VW Rabbit diesel, '84 Jeep, and '90 Jeep all had that same, pull out, headlight switch. You know, if you think about, that "old" type of switch is the most efficient. One switch to perform the same functions that it now takes two "modern" switches to perform. Maybe if they improved the switchgear quality (A nice knob) and feel (Pulls out with two short dampened stops and a dampened dimmer rotator) it would be considered ingenious. Probably...but I don't care. The G8 is due out soon and the 2009 Impala is based on the Camaro platform.

I believe your Crown Vic has a very similar switch to my old 89 Mustang. Whose vehicle is out dated?
