Now, its certainly not the bottom, but its not #1 either. What I find sad, is that we used to be at the tope of that list. We haven't gotten worse, others have just gotten better. Any of us, however, are lucky to be in the top 30.

First let me must say ament to that joihan.

You guys say the rest of the world? Exactly whom do you mean? You mean europe and the remaining English commonwealths. To that end these have always been countries where the masses were lorded over by the few, the select elite ruling class as it were. It's the same today as it was then they have just gotten better about fooling you into believing that you are not oppressed. Even SUV admits there are really only two ruling parties in Canada when you get right down to it. Todays socialst country is just a new spin on yesterdays ruling monarchy. They just dress it up in a different color, call it something else and you believe you have a say. But you don't, not really.

I'm going to reply only to this. Canada, and for that matter, Europe may very well be socialist countries, but if this is socialism, then I welcome it. We are governed by our peers to make sure that there is equality and prosperity.

There have really only been 2 ruling parties, yes, but all 4 major parties have their say. They all get input in this system, and together, under the current minority conditions they can bring down the government at any time. This keeps the government on track ( for the most part) and it makes certain that all people have a voice in the house.

You are correct, we do in fact have a Constitutional Monarchy. We have a Governor General, her name is Michaelle Jean and she was at one time a Haitian refugee. She is officially in charge of our country and represents Queen Elizabeth II in Canada. She is picked by the Prime Minister to serve a 5 year term. She is a figure head but is also Commander and Chief of our country.

Below the Constitutional Monarchy is a Parliamentary Democracy. Our Prime Minister is the leader of the party with the Most seats in the HoC (usually). He, sits in Parliament, and for 1 hour a day, he and his ministers are subjected to questioning by the opposition for all to see. This also helps to keep government accountable. He has 1 vote in the commons and has no Veto power, like GWB. The HoC pases bills on to the Senate, an appointed body of "Sober second thought." Though there has been much debate over the senate in the last few years, I think they serve a purpose, but should be modified in some way. They make sure that the bills the the HoC pass are fair and equal, and then return them to the house to be voted on again. It then goes the the GG to sign. It really all works quite well as the Westminster Parliamentary system has been around for centuries and has been refined to work in this manner.

140 years ago, a few men decided to join together and form a country. They worked with the British government and came to a consensus allowing for the birth of a nation. This nation would stretch from sea to sea, or " a mari usque ad mare," one day, and would be governed by the people to maintain peace, order, and good government. I love this country, and I'm glad you like your own country, but like I said, if this is socialism, I welcome it. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else on earth.

Ugh....why are threads like this in the Ford Motor Company forum?

The lead post pertains to Ford it's all weather or not you make the connection to understand why. The Union will now have to cover the costs of our retiree's medical care. It is in the best interests for all members to push for some sort of socialized medicine to assure long term solvency for the union (retiree medical) and the company (active worker medical. The question is what kind of social health care would you support. I will not voluntarily pay for people who refuse to contribute to such a programs funding! I will admit that the thread has spun out of control, but the additions are quit informational!

I'm fine with that. The rest of the world is behind the US in almost every conceivable way. So I won't lose any sleep over what the rest of the world opines.

I have a question. Why do most right wing Americans think this way. You seem to believe that you are the superior people that keeps the world spinning and that you hold the fabric of space time together. The truth is, that you can do nothing on your own, just like every other country on earth. you should care about what the rest of the world thinks, because at the current time, in many different ways, you are being left behind.

When I read this thread's title I wondered if it was baiting me.

Without reading all 5 pages, I'm going to say no one likes paying for someone that refuses to work. Can you elaborate on these people that "refuse to work" though?

Why don't you read the first post? That should give you the answer.

His lack of paragraphing, spelling, and punctuation makes my eyes bleed. Also, he just said people between 18 and 67 that don't pay in...that would include almost all college students, including the MD/JD/PHD students that go to school until age 30 or so. I assumed this was an attack on illegals getting healthcare, but I'd prefer to have him elaborate.

Keep reading those who go to school should also receive coverage. It's not just non-citizen residence that I'm attacking, it is the largest group of non-contributers that concern me! Lazy Citizen adults. Most of this was covered within the first two pages.

SUV, your top 30 countries. According to whom? Post a link or something, that list doesn't tell me shit.

With respect to capital punishment. Good!!! I'm all in favor of it. If some slime breaks into your home, rapes and kills your wife and kills your innocent kids he damn well should die and I hope he burns in hell.

The HDI measures the average achievements in a country in three basic dimensions of human development:

* A long and healthy life, as measured by life expectancy at birth.

* Knowledge, as measured by the adult literacy rate (with two-thirds weighting) and the combined primary, secondary, and tertiary gross enrollment ratio (with one-third weighting).

* A decent standard of living, as measured by the log of gross domestic product (GDP) per capita at purchasing power parity (PPP) in USD.

Each year, UN member states are listed and ranked according to these measures. Those high on the list often advertise it,[2] as a means of attracting talented immigrants (economically, individual capital) or discouraging emigration.

Wikipedia

As For the death penalty, it seems to do little except introduce retributive justice, something that should not be IMO a part of the system (eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind, etc.). Western Europe, Canada, and Australia have lower violent crime rates than the US. The death penalty does little to deter and nothing to rehabilitate. There is also the issue of us being 100% right in our convictions (especially given your elected judges) and the issue of whether or not we have the right to put someone to death.

Yeah they have a huuuuge illegal immigration problem in Canada so you guys know what that's like. NOT!!!!

There are reasons that we don't have a huge illegal immigration problem (and yes, one of them is because we are not beside Mexico, but there are other reason). That doesn't matter, because not all Mexicans in the US are illegal. Many of them pay taxes and work.

I know this. It doesn't change what I said.

Illegals here do not get free coverage they have to pay. Same as people visiting Canada.

They will treat them but they will get a bill. Alot of Illegals are caught this way in Canada they go to the doctor hospital ETC they have no Health care number questions are asked & investigations follow. If the medical staff suspect any thing they call the apripriate authority's. Abuse of the system hurts them too. Their wages are paid by Health Care. If people abuse it it just means that many fewer dollars can be used for increasing thier wages. They have a vested interest in making sure the system is not abused.

People here on refugee status or waiting for citizendship are covered. But they are given documentation to allow them to work and pay taxes and health preimuims (if applicable in thier local) just like every one else.

Of course your performance during this period is taken in to consideration when the time comes to grant you citizenship.

I have talked to several people that have imigrated here. And all have said it was much tougher to even get considered by Imigration Canada than the U.S counter part.

So do you cover Illegal Aliens, No, but you still treat them.
