FOCUS RECOGNIZED BY KELLEY BLUE BOOK’S KBB.COM AS ONE OF ‘TOP TEN COOLEST NEW CARS UNDER $18,000’

- The 2008 Ford Focus was named one of the “Top Ten Coolest New Cars Under $18,000” by the editors of Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com.

- Nearly 40 percent of the Focus units sold during the past five months included SYNC. SYNC-equipped vehicles sell nearly twice as fast as those without.

- Ford is increasing Focus production for 2008 by nearly 30 percent to 245,000 units to meet customer demand

I see a lot of '08 Foci on the streets here, and this is a college town, so the target demographic is purchasing them. Trolls be damned, for as little money as was invested in the Focus, it is returning some very positive press for Ford. Word-of-mouth, especially with Sync, will only help sales in the long run.

The Focus is being marketed brilliantly, and Sync is key. I don't think the Focus would have done much without Sync. And it happens to be a good time to offer the consumer a fresh option in this changing market.

I also think the Focus is a pleasing package for most consumers who are probably impressed by the strong/smooth power train and comfortable/quiet cabin. The features are also major selling points. You'd be surprised how many more cars you can sell with color changing LED lighting even if it doesn't have grab handles ;) Essentially the Focus was designed and marketed well to consumers, not car rags.

I'm considering one as a replacement for a 1998 Escort with 124K miles. Does the SES include a light in the trunk? I understand it does NOT include a trunk-release button in the cabin--only on the key fob.

Which is stupid. I would think it would come with a light back there, but who knows it is Ford. My Fusion didn't even come with a light in the glovebox.

Wow, 5 positive posts about a vehicle, then one question which nobody has answered and four negative posts based on a question that still hasn't been answered.

"great car"

"great car"

"great car"

"does it have a widget?"

"probably not, ford sucks"

"yeah they're too stupid"

"imports have widgets though"

You people and this site is really starting to suck. Chearleader or not, the instant negativizm around here amazes me. The problem is the tendancy for everyone to "pile on".

How about doing a little research and finding out if the SES HAS A LIGHT before complaining and bitching that it "probably" doesn't and nobody does anymore, and imports all do, (infering domestic's all don't)

Dumb asses

At least HAVE an issue before you start crying!

Thanks---

I really would like to know if any of the 2008 FOCI include trunk light. I'd like to buy an SES. I use the trunk alot and I really need the built-in lamp.

I've researched this myself and can't find the answer. I know that previous years' FOCI include a trunk light. I figured the only definitive way to find about the '08s is to ask an owner. I don't want to call a dealer and get sucked into coming in before they'll tell me.\\

Thanks again,

Oh please don't give me that! Ford half-assed it in so many ways when it comes to that car. Removing items such as the telescoping steering wheel and interior trunk release, leaving off things such as rear-head rests, and offering a nasty headliner complete with piss-poor vinyl sunvisors.

Don't get me wrong I don't think the Focus is a bad car, but Ford took a lot of things out of the car that would have made it a lot more competitive with the Civic and Corolla. I also don't mind the styling inside and out, and in most colors the car looks really decent. What irks me the most is the fact that someone at Ford dreams up these cost cutting ways that are simply backwards. I don't know how many times I could have used rear lighting in my old Fusion or even a little cheap glovebox light. Those things are so annoying when you are pretty much happy with the product being offered.

You know? I agree...they did cheapen the car drastically. At the same time, they added other things as standard. It's a give and take, and it was probably necessary to keep the price down.

Things like the trunk release, oh-shit handles, and telescoping steering wheel would have been nice to have, but I've gotten used to not having them. Also, our 2008 Mustang lacks the trunk release, overhead oh-shit handles, and lighted glovebox (I think); and our 1997 Corolla does not have the light in the glovebox, either. When you really think about it, I guess as long as the trunk release on the remote works, that typically satisfies the need for an interior button.

Again, the beancounters did take away a lot of things that would be nice to have. However, all in all, it's not too bad. I really like my Focus SES. Unfortunately, I just ordered an SE with automatic to replace it with so my wife and kid could drive the car.

BTW, I'll have to check in the trunk of my Focus SES to see if it's lighted or not. I'll post as soon as I find out.

Thanks, Tim.

Great news about the trunk light, but I guess I'm destined to purchase Ford vehicles that have lost their inside truck release.

The 1997 Escort had it, then it was dropped for '98, which is my year, then it was added again for '99.

The Focus had it, then it was dropped for '08, and now I'm sure it will return soon.

trunk is lit. light is recessed towards the seats rather than in the trunk door. much more effective imho.

good luck with your purchase!

Oh don't get me wrong, I totally understand that. The fact that the Focus is one of the only cars in its class to offer an integrated MP3/Bluetooth connectivity system is a great selling point. I like the revised interior and center stack, IMO it seems to offer much more feature content then most are used to out of an economy car. Ford added safety and thus far it has done very well according to IIHS. While some many not find the design to their fancy, again it has grown on me. The fuel economy is nearly top of the pack, out pacing even some sub-compacts.

I don't hate the car, I just would like to see Ford do a little more than the status-quo for once.

I whole-heartedly agree. That would be nice. I doubt we'll ever see that, though...especially with the economic situation currently.

In reference to the trunk, Tim is right on the light. I opened my trunk to confirm. However, I wouldn't hold my breath to see if the inside release will return. I seriously doubt it when the larger cars and SUVs are losing it, too. Again, as long as I have the remote in hand (will also release trunk with car running), it'll be good enough.

I completely disagree that we'll never see it. With the introduction of the Fiesta in another year or so, Ford will have a lot more room to add content to the Focus, as it will no longer need to appeal to the lowest end of the market.

If THIS Focus, with all the things to complain about, is doing this well already, the future bodes extremely well for Ford's small cars in the future as we see a return of platform and content sharing with the rest of the world.

My 1998 Escort SE key remote will not open the truck when the motor is running.
