RichardJensen
http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=28224 Duratec 25 is now the standard engine and Duratec 30 output is now 240hp, and gas mileage is estimated to be 1mpg higher for both 4 & 6 cylinder models. BTW, 240hp from a 3.0L engine is nothing to scoff at.

svtenthusiast
Are they getting rid of the rear drum brakes and going back to discs? The article mentions "Braking improvements focused on increasing initial braking response and further fine-tuning the vehicle’s anti-lock braking system" but doesn't note any hardware changes. silvrsvt
All that extra power in the I4 and V-6 means 1.7 second quicker 0-60 times....pretty impressive

Hugh
Cool beans! Why didn't they mention the 6-spd? I read an article on the media site all about the new 6A and where it's going. It's quite impressive.
Michael Reynolds
I'd like to see more details on the powertrains and the braking system. That's what I'd like to see. I'm really curious to see if Ford has worked on the refinement issues of the D30. Having said that, it seems to me with the few tweaks the Escape should be received much better in the market place. NickF1011
I'm really curious to see if Ford has worked on the refinement issues of the D30. Well, seems most of the complaints about the 3.0 are when it is revving at higher RPM. That's really the only time I would consider it a "thrashy" sounding engine in my expriences. With the 6-speed attached, it should keep the RPM considerably lower.

sonofford
There are two related articles as well, one about aerodynamic improvements, the other about low rolling-resistance tires (Michelin Latitudes). http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=28226 http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=28225

It starts to get slightly noisy during mid-range as well. You can hear it, but there isn't much in terms of vibration inside of the cabin. My guess is a little bit more sound deadening might go a long way.
silvrsvt
The new 2.5 I4 puts out 171 hp/171 torque....very decent numbers and should zoot around the 09 Fusion very well

I've owned two of them...one in a 2001 Taurus and the other in my wife's Five Hundred. Maybe it's because I enjoy the harmony of an engine's sounds...I dunno. For comparison...the 3.3L (?) that was in my father in-law's Toyota was no better or worse in sounds. He had two different engines in that car (sludge), so it wasn't just a one off. I'm not implying it's a bad engine, it just gets a bit noisy. It became even more evident after driving it and another car back to back on a reg. basis. NickF1011
Oh cool! It's got a built in power inverter and a 110V AC outlet! I've never much found the need for an AC outlet in my car, but I imagine the road warriors with laptops etc would find it handy. I'm rather surprised how few models offer it. It's not exactly rocket science or cost prohibitive to put one in.

I was really impressed when I saw one of those things in a Toyota Matrix. And yeah, it's real handy for charging laptop batteries on the road. I would imagine it's also useful for campers... Extreme4x4
I love the 3.0 in my '03 Tribute. I don't really like silent vehicles, and the 3.0 puts out a good growl when you really get on it. Why it gets such a bad rap, I don't know. One couldn't ask for better reliability out of an engine.............. and they really wake up once you get 10-20K miles on them. 64K completely trouble free miles here. The only thing I don't like about my Tribute is the trans. The 3.0 deserves much better.

Between my blackberry, blue tooth and garmin I need chargers.
Hugh
All those improvements will go a long way to generate sales. I drove my friends Escape and the 3.0 was been held back by the 4A. That was a point why I never got one although I liked the overall package. When the 08 came out, I liked the improvements but I could have picked up a 07 at a better price. I drove my fathers Five Hundred demo with the 3.0 and a 6A and I thought that was great. Now with the 09, that'll convince me to come back to the dealership.
