we all know that the big three have made some horrendous mistakes over the past ten years by not hedging on small cars. but...

no one in congress is willing to bring up the fact that asian automakers always have their government to fall back on. they are protected by their own government while we let our companies sink (or swim) on their own. they have their government as a safety net, and our companies do not.

i'm not a socialist, but i have grave reservations about letting our auto industry fend completely for themselves when the competition does not have the same rules.

I have an idea. Let's flood this discussion of Dunce's with educated responses to show these morons how ignorant they are

It doesn't work here, what makes you think it will work there? :hysterical:

the public is still stuck in the 70's and 80's, seems like people only like negative press because that's all they remember, there are so many stretch comments on there that it actually makes me sick

But they seem to forget the crappy cars that Honda, Toyota, and the rest of "Japan Inc." put out in the same time period... :banghead:

People purchased Honda/Toyota/Datsuns during the mid-70s when the price of fuel tripled as a result of the oil embargo. While in their Japanese cars, they noticed that they didn't break down as much (or at least that was their perception), and soon they started looking at the Japanese cars by default.

The Japanese never done the same thing in Europe at the time they never got a look in, Old Skool Kool Ford Capri's, Cortina's, Escorts & Taunus owned the market over this side of the pond, European Fords were not that fuel efficient and Honda/Toyota/Datsun were rust buckets and their spares were expensive in the 70's.

Folk never used blame their woes on what the Model T was like in the 1920's at the time like you do today, l can remember the Capri sending everybody elses sports car sales charts to the floor after it was launched in 1969.

Only thing that has changed is everything looks the same today boring, dull & bland so folk just choose Toyota & Honda, because they are the most reliable dull boring bland car you can buy in a generic anonymous styled group of cars. Fords superb diesels kick Toyota & Honda cars arse in Europe, Fords diesel engines are so much more reliable, more fuel efficient & last twice as long as a Jap gasoline engine.

Alas, Ford's diesels (in their current form) like much of the auto candy you have in the U.K. won't pass our environmental regulations.

Perhaps, that helps our American workers as well?

Thanks for the reply, only thing that l worry about is when you see Obama & Al Gore getting together like they did yesterday on the news and talking about global warming. It could only mean you will now get our Euro Global Warming taxs on everyhing that moves, Fords market would be hit the hardest as they seem to be very reliant on pick-up SUV sales, the two vehicles that have almost disappeared from the streets of Europe since Global Warming taxes arrived here. If all Ford was left with in the US was 23,000 Crown Vic, Focus, Fusion & Taurus sales every month to live off of things would be bad.

Nick,

why is it that you can rehash the same old crap over and over again, but yet shut down Jellymoulds threads and accuse him of the same?

Why, as a moderator, do you act so infantile in this regard?

Why don't you just come out and formally list the posters that you do not like so we can differentiate between active discussion in threads from bashing of those you do not like.

You really need to grow up.

Cause it's fun damnit. We have to be grownups everywhere else in life. BON is like the sanctuary for the inner child in all of us :shades:

I shut down his threads? I believe I've closed exactly one thread FJ has created. And I don't say the same thing over and over again, verbatim.

Posters I don't like: Add yourself to the list. :yup: :P

What worries me is the strings that will come attached with any aid. If we think that the Aztek was awful, or that the Impala and LaCrosse are dull and uninspired, just wait until GM has to get its product plans approved by the federal government...

It's good to know BON is full of know-alls, as a neutral looking in from Europe at Fords most up to date Ford car sales numbers they are nothing short of dreadful for November 2008, the Fiesta and Focus both sell somewhere around 70,000 cars each month in Europe which is superb. But Crown Vic, Mexican Fusion, Focus and Taurus were just 23,000 total in the US that's just dreadful.

Maybe for a change if all you high I.Q. know-alls on BON could get together and ANSWER just one question for me, l am sure you can manage to do it with all that brain power you have.

I will write the question sloooooooooooooowly just in case you don't understand it.

HOW MUCH PROFIT DOES FORD MAKE FROM 23,000 DISCOUNTED CROWN VIC-MEXICAN FUSION-FOCUS-TAURUS LAST MONTH IN $ please?

I love how you compare the sales across 50 countries to our 1 [not to mention more than twice the population]. I guess we should take this as a compliment. In your mind, we [as a single nation] equate to the same importance as an entire continent. Thanks for props FJM :happy feet:
