Ford Jellymoulds
Capri (We had in Europe) Cyclone 390 Escort RWD 1973 Falcon XA GT Coupe Galaxy Mustang (Needs to be sold in Europe it must be the most popular car never sold here) T-Bird Gran Torino (Just seen the movie last weekend picked-up some of the US lingo to use on BON them damm pussy Japanese ricer car gangs in Detroit made some of my posts seem a bit grumpy lately, it put Mrs Moulds off doing a visit to Motown studio A snakepit, Henry Ford Museum & Rouge Factory Tour we were planning to do sometime in the future). Does everybody end up as happy looking as Clint after spending a lifetime working for Ford, you can tell Alan Mulally has not been not been at Ford for to long he never stops smiling where as Rick Wagoner looks a nervous wreck when he is in front of a camera. Gotta say l would buy any of them today if Ford offered any of the above cars again in Europe, Ford are the best in the business at doing make overs of old cars the Mustang & Ford GT were absolutely stunnning kept true to the original with all the mod cons & superb handling. PREMiERdrum
Torino, Cougar XR-7, Continental, Mark IX, Capri, LTD. Personally, I still can't understand why Lincoln started using the M... series model designations instead of names. I buy into the notion that they wanted people to put the emphasis on LINCOLN and not on the model, much like BMW and Mercedes drivers, when asked what they drive, just answer with the brand. It's kind of like instant cache for the brand. I like names, and Lincoln has had some classic ones, but I think these details could elevate the brand perception to match the quality of product on the lots. battyr
damnit!! Ya beat me to it.... :shades: But if the "Gran" portion of Gran Torino doesn't bode well with marketing, I would 'settle' for a Torino SEL, remember, the trim packages were names, not letters back then. then: Torino Gran Torino Gran Torino Brougham Gran Torino Sport Gran Torino Elite today, it would be: Torino S Torino SE Torino SEL Torino Sport Torino Limited The "Gran" part could be a matter of education (Advertising). Was the marketing studies done before the movie came out? If they had to, they could use the work "Grand". Would make more sense to the English. 2b2
^ I *like* Taurino... ...but I'm weird Lincoln Continental. In fact if I had it my way the MkZ would have stayed the Zephyr, the MkS would have been the Continental and the MkX would have been the Aviator. I still don't care for the Mk naming scheme. I know they are trying to get people to refer to them as just a Lincoln and everyone else is doing it with luxury vehicles, but why do you have to do what everyone else does when you have these great names to use? I don't mind alphabet soup + spaghettiZeros for F-Awd vehicles, never really did BUT don't consider them 'names' just designators/stock numbers & largely meaningless... AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM cuz MARK WAS a NAME and it HAD meaning [aborts rant] as for names to bring back Can't do it without the proper vehicle and of the four C names that jump immediately to mind, the only ones that might find a platform/home are Capri & Comet C _ _ _ _ r & Continental must wait for the G-Rwd-Platform (already 95%+ developed & ready to build IMHO, incldg. LHD!!!) which ^ must wait for A Factory to build them which must wait for the Budget/operating $$$ which must wait for the EEKonomy which must wait for the jerks on "the Street"/"the Hill"/... another name that MAYBE does Not need much waiting is MARQUIS (no Grand required) & a RE-Naming (or augmenting): change "VOGA"! maybe "Medallion" (with NEW godhead logo), maybe Zetec/Titanium/"Individual"/etc, maybe "Ultimate"... & proving I don't have anything against the alphabet or numbers in general offer an -XR sport trim on every Merc & even bring out XR-# special-sport-CARS which WouldN'T have to wait for the GRwdP (thinking along the lines of the Reflex & ROTW Mz6 hatchback) AND HRL = D2C with an inline-6 EB (std) + IRS (std) + sliding glassroof (std) + splitwing grille (of course) + Bridge of Weir leather (std), etc (std), etc (std), etc... twintornados
I must say though, while I wax nostalgic about great names of the past (my personal favorite is Torino) I have no problems with new names like Fusion, Milan, etc etc etc....sometimes, those famous nameplates need to remain in the history books. But, that being said, the annuls of history can be a great place to come up with a name for say a certain segment. Crown Victoria comes to mind, the police and livery service version could have been called "LTD", or "500"to help separate the fleet queens from the sales floor. But... I have already expressed my opinion of that in another forum.

Bored of Pisteon
THE FAIRMONT! Why not? It's been 25 years+ since they last made one. Actually, I prefer this version even though my parents had the smaller 2 door coupe version. NickF1011
THE FAIRMONT! Why not? It's been 25 years+ since they last made one. I'd rather see Fairlane return instead of Fairmont. It just sounds more elegant to me. I've always liked the Torino name also, but there really isn't any product present or likely in the future that would be deserving of it. Actually, I prefer this version even though my parents had the smaller 2 door coupe version. I heard somewhere that the Fusion originally was going to be called Futura. I'm thankful they went with Fusion I'd like to see Cougar, Thunderbird and Continental revived, mostly because of the cars that would have to be built carrying the name. Especially a Mustang based Cougar, although I don't think that's going to happen given the direction Mercury is going in. SkapeGote
Sup, I would love to see them bring back the Thunderbolt. It was never made in mass quantities, but is a legend in it's own right. Thunderbolt link I am not sure what car I would use as a platform, maybe the Fusion. A Fusion Thunderbolt would be pretty cool. Still I would like to see Ford explore their rally racing heritage. A production rally car would be cool as well. Skape
