transitman
I've admired the redesign since it was announced. My plan is in 2013 to trade my 2010 Fusion and get me a SE 5 door with the 203A package. Nicely equipped for just over $18500. This is (hopefully) at least 2 years in the future but my curiosity has been piqued so I did some looking into the 2012 Focus. The hatchback at all levels is $795 more than the sedan. Comparing the Rapid Spec sheets and the Technology Rebate printouts, it appears at the level I'm interested, the SEL with the standard 300A package is the better deal over the SE with a 203A. The SYNC package on the SE lists SYNC elements with USB port versus SYNC voice activated communications and entertainment system standard on the SEL. I'm wondering what SYNC elements means. Also, the 6 speed trans, aluminum wheels, full disk brakes and everything else standard on the SEL seems well worth an additional $1765. Does anyone know if the front passenger seat is fold flat, is the 2.0L Ti-VCT GDI I-4 currently in any other US models and what's it's reliability and durability record? Is it also known as the Duratec 20? I can't wait to see one on the showroom floor. Edited October 8, 2010 by transitman
akirby
what is stated on that preliminary order guide can be read two ways Correct - your way and the right way. Seriously though - if that were the case then they would have simply said that the package requires the Automatic Transmission or said that the package includes the automatic transmission and they did neither. tzach
Sorry Baggs32 but it really is very simple, and don't see how it can even be interpreted your way at all. Could we be wrong and you right, anything is possible. We shall all see eventually.
baggs32
Correct - your way and the right way. Seriously though - if that were the case then they would have simply said that the package requires the Automatic Transmission or said that the package includes the automatic transmission and they did neither. I do agree that is should say that Allen. However the question posed asked if you could get the SE sport pkg with the manual tranny and I just don't think there's enough evidence to say that is 100% fact based solely on a slightly confusing preliminary order guide. I can't find another order guide from Ford that has a similar option structure so it might be wise to caution others that there is a chance they won't be able to get the manual tranny with the SE sport pkg. Might save someone some trouble in the long run. Seriously, the rate at which the option to own a vehicle with a manual transmission has been disappearing would anyone be the least bit surprised if a 2012 model follows the current trend too? svtenthusiast
I too am upset that they won't offer the third pedal in SEL or Titanium trim. The auto is supposed to get better mileage, and the ST is manual only. So now I am stuck between: Loaded Titanium or ST. I would trade a remote start for a manual trans any day. However, I'm afraid the ST might appear to be too boy-racer-ish. I might have to wait to see one in a dark color to decide. Does it really cost that much more to offer 2 trannys in the higher trims? I'd imagine that's why they don't, but I'm having trouble imagining why... Bingo. That's what I am saying. I think the ST is too racer-ish so why not give us the option of the manual tranny in the SEL or Titanium?

Biker16
Ford of canada is offering the SEL with the manual. http://www.ford.ca/app/fo/en/cars/focus.do?modelYear=C20# why can't we?
betaiota
Well the wife said she's not driving or riding in the ST model. "We did that 15 years ago" referring to my then brand-new Escort GT. I actually agree with her on this one. Anyone hear anything about possibly a Fusion ST, like maybe with a 2.5 EB and 6 speed? I'd buy that, if they didn't rice-it-up like they did on this Focus ST. GapBoyPCS
I'm not sure how many of you use Facebook, but someone did ask about the SE Sport Package and how SelectShift is offered: @Mark Schirmer....SE Sport Package includes Select Shift which requires Powershift, is it safe to assume if one specifies SE with Sport Package = delete manual tranny ...Three pedals are standard on the SE model, even when equipped with the SE Sport Package. If you check the box for the PowerShift automatic, then the Sport Package also includes SelectShift manual control over the auto trans. We'll work on clearing this up in future communications, thanks! KC Dallia, Ford Marketing
aneekr
I'm not sure how many of you use Facebook, but someone did ask about the SE Sport Package and how SelectShift is offered: Thanks for the info! This should put the controversy to rest once and for all.

I know what you mean, but, she'd take a Mustang in a heartbeat. Just not a Focus ST.... But I need a daily driver, I'd like to go back to 3 pedals, gotta have all the options, and not look like I'm driving to buy Tokyo Drift on DVD at the swap meet.
